Yeah... both were linear... Move forward. But portal 1 was move forward through 19 test chambers. Portal 2 was try to escape, do a little testing, kill GLaDOS, run around in the ruined bottom of the lab, do some more testing but in a new area, go back and find weatley, do some more testing, and then beat him. It had a change in appearance every so often. Unless I'm missing something, both of them gave you no freedom whatsoever.
nooooooo you have choices.. when your running first time away from glados, you can pick to go back to here, THUS not linear there! also "this is the part where he kills you", at the part where he kills you, if you Liston to him and go back... something different happens [until you die] ... thats not linear... there only a few seconds of non-linear ness, but thats a few seconds more than portal 1 thus still proving my point =P
Didn't like that they made it so linear, there was more thinking in Portal 1.
ummm no.....? they had the same type of test champers in 1 and 2... yet 2 had the "outside" worlds a lot more and bigger than 1.. think you have that backwards =P
first time ever doing anything. I can't even use the SC2 editor it boggles my mind :(
Edit: I thought 3ds max with a good programmer was the best game creator. Hmm.
oh wow.. ok if you thought 3d max was a game creater..and the sc2 editor boggles your mind... start out with gamemaker and rpgmaker google both, thats what you need. there fun, easy, and will get you started on the most basic of concepts of which you can bring to the next level in advance editors/programing.
I've delved into the source engine for a bit... let's just say there's a good reason I'm here and not on valve forums. Galaxy editor = user friendly in comparison, but alas bogged by limitations/bnet. Still, much easier to get assets and an audience and to get something done.
the word on the grape vine is that the new editor for portal 2 will be a great dealer more friendly (and the source editor is very user friendly compared to other "real" editors [aka not just "specific game editors"]
No, I think the problem here is that it shouldn't do this for Public Channels. If you directly message someone, this message is fine: But what if, for someones fault other then yours, you got blocked by someone in a channel you visit. It will forever be spammed by the annoying green message when you type.
It should just show a red mark next to their portrait indicating they blocked you, IMO.
Gonna lock this, as this is one of the most suggested things already (and doing a search youll see a "suggestions topic" which was already submitted to the devs =D
[and just to note at the post above me... if we had the ability to edit the source , it would have been done months and months ago, trust me =P]
the unreal, which was already linked, along with the source engine (on steam) are the two best editors you can ever want...(and both being free, for non-commercial) is an amazing deal.
tho your post confused the crap out of me when you say "other than 3dmax"
Yeah, I was trolling about Portal being a tech demo. That's how I react when something keeps popping up everywhere I go (hello reddit). Never played the first one and have no intention on trying. Never liked Valve games.
I do in fact consider HL2 a huge tech-demo of Source (just like all the "cry" games by Crytek are tech-demos of CryEngine). Ever since it was announced it was all about the engine. The first screenshots of that pier (ooh, pretty shiny water). How I could shoot out some support beams and barrels would roll out, G-Man's facial animations (anyone remember that one? Took me longer to find it than to write this post :P). Even the grav-gun was a demo of the physics engine. And.. well... HL2 is just a FPS, the most base genre in existence, like a TD. You can only work up from there (well, not with a TD, they're just that auwful). Pure FPS were fun pre-1999, and only when they acknowledged that their only goal was to shoot people (Quake, Unreal).
Good FPS example: Deus Ex, an FPS, but so much more.
ummm at the time they released hl2.. it was amazing for what it was.. it just seems like your saying it was a fail tech demo... 1) it was amazing in that sense, and two.. it was the squeal to one of the best fps out there, half-life.
and.. I think you should play portal.. before going off on your thoughts about it rofl.
Completed the single-player campaign a couple of hours ago.. Loved it. Now to wait for my friend to finish it so we can do the co-op campaign >.>
wait have you done ANY of the co-op yet zarakk? if you havnt even touched it yet... I could use you for the ach...
the one for "After completing co-op, complete Calibration Course online with a friend who hasn’t played before"
and just to clarify, the Calibration Course is the thing that teaches you how to play co-op (you end up doing it each time you join with someone new) so you wont be doing anything without them =P
