Update: The Buzz Me! contest has been removed. It was a fun idea at start, but we figured out that the consequences may only be negative. Please come tomorrow for another contest :).
As you know the publishing system is really aweful to play with. What do you think about a contest to find how to get advantage of it! You have to create a new map and make it as high in the popularity as possible
You have to mention sc2mapster somewhere in the map.
The map must NOT be playable. However you can add fun stuff like videos, images ...
Do not hesitate to fool the user: call it DoTA, put a fun minimap ...
What you have to give
You have to provide a screenshot of the map listing with your position and number of times played.
Deadlines
You have 8 days to complete this contest.
End of the submissions: Wednesday, August 8th - Midnight PDT (Los Angeles) [Thursday, August 9th - 9 AM GMT (Paris)]
Reward
The main goal of the contest is to further community development within GalaxyEdit. The rewards can be see as follows:
One of my ideas was to make an awesome map thatll be super popular, and then just update it one day with a version that just plays rickroll... since updates auto-overtake the old version LOL.
Though I myself suggested a similar tactic (in the beta) to reveal the stupidity of the popularity system, I share programmer's doubt.
It is no longer beta and this is low class. While I might support a group of individuals attempting to do this, I just don't think it's a good idea to have sc2mapster tagged to this sort of guerrilla statement. It just seems so petty.
Not to mention that one of the best defenses against this sort of pseudo-denial of service attack is the current system, so I'm not sure exactly what message a successful contest would send.
I'm mainly worried about some sort of retaliation from Blizzard, they have already been reported to completely remove publishing rights from people for the dumbest of infractions.

My goal with mapster has always been to promote mapping and make it fun. If you always ask yourself if Blizzard is going to approve it or not, you are pretty much always going to get a No and not do anything. So, until they say specificaly that we are not allowed to do so, let's have fun and do it :)
By the way, don't get it as a war against Blizzard or anything, this is more for fun than anything else :)
I, as a player, have no need for your fake maps. In this twisted, lowly and downright stupid attempt to get a point accross to Blizzard, you are only making things even worse for the casual gamer.
Ya guys - this isn't cool. If you want to be seen as professionals, this is definitely not scoring your website any kudo points...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Stuff I've worked on: Carbot's StarCrafts Mod (2014-present) StarCraft 2 Hotkey Trainer (2010) | Mineralz Evolution (2011+) | Dungeon Legacy (2013+) | Phoenix TLMC 4 Entry (2014) Assisted: City of Tempest (2012) | BarCraft (2013) | Poker Defense (2014) and a few more.
Blizzard already knows about the map system, and I'm certain it will be fixed in a coming patch. This just seems like it will annoy people more than anything else.

Note: All those are per region basis :)
Do rickroll maps :) . So we get only stupid top maps, and everyone lives bnet :P .
Or they will have to remove that rating system.
awesome IDEA :D
A competiton on exploiting the dreaded publishing system? I love you mapster.
EDIT: Cancelled? Damn!! I've spent hours on a weird meta-game map, in which you get points and compete by rehosting it over and over again ><
There were bonus multipliers and stuff if you dragged in new players too :(
Crap it up big time so the top maps are all rick rolls, then Blizzard will HAVE to do something! :D

ok this does promote creativity, but do we really gonna do this ?? I think blizz knew enough about this
Best. Contest. Ever.
So joining.
Edit: Nevermind. Apparently they are removing peoples publishing rights for inappropriate content.. which this contest likely will have.

Awesome. Best contest EVER. I highly approve. Post your maps so I know which ones to artificially inflate with POPULARITY!
