@TyaStarcraft: Go
Thanks. At this point I followed the other post to the letter. While I do not get the triggers back as expected, I do get the Galaxy Script, and as it is not far from C I don't have trouble reading it or coding it in.
My guess would be the Variants/attributes are still incorrect.
Sorry but even this logic is flawed. Its more like copyrighting the book, allowing you the read it but not giving you the materials to remake it. Either way you do in fact have access through the game by playing it; if you bothered to gain a basic triggering understand throught the multitudes of already open source examples and tutorial then you can draw conclusions as to how it is done.
As already covered by many other if you are unwilling to respect the wishes of the original author, then your intentions are not honerable. You clearly only want access to copy the map as you haven't even bothered to ask the many other members around here how its done who would in fact easily know how its done.
Seeing as your that incompetent at drawing your own conclusions, i do it for you by saying this is infact on topic as your op asked if anyone was willing you help and you consider me and the many others excluded from your list of people who are willing to help.
@hobbidude: Go
Did that make sense to you? It did not to me. "Giving you the materials to remake the book"? If you have the book and a typewriter, you have those materials. Perhaps you would like to try a different analogy except that ...oh wait...this again is off topic.

There is NO STIGMA for any maps. I would ENJOY helping you in topics with any issues you have. IF someone says its a stigma i with FIGHT THEM TOOTH TO NAIL.
Also they do copywrite books.
you have to pay for your starwars book
you cant write a book about jedis
you cant resell a book.
the reason for this is so i dont overthrow gorge lucas and that gorge lucas will continue to make starwars shit.
ALSO WE ARE NOT PIRATE BAY OR D3SCEANE.
@TyaStarcraft: Go What the hell dude, i know you read the thread cause u keep asking about it. 2.1 will obfuscate maps. given a couple more weeks this dude wouldn't be able to get shit along with most of the D3 community but just had him the damn keys. what you doing is undermining this community.
damn this thread is poking a nerve with me....

You still haven't bothered getting off your ass yet and answered why you not asking how these things are done instead of asking to be spoonfed like a noob.
Off topic? Didn't you get... we don't care?
@SoulTaker916: Go
I wouldn't worry about it too much there soultaker. As you've said, and as this guy has missed, any work he does manage to get done will be worthless in less than a month. And even when map protection was at its worst he would never be able to get the copy paste result that he's looking for. With the little map information he would ever be able to get, he would already have to the knowledge of how qalaxy works in order to implement what he want in which case he wouldn't be here in the first case.
@hobbidude: Go my thing is, that he can release modified map versions. Mafia with all the unlockables, run ling run with all units and skills, nexus wars with all the skins, broken versions of maps and ripped versions. these things can be popular short term and minimize replay value. thatfully this hasnt happened yet but if it did i douby blizzard would care.
First he cracks the map, then he download camrips from torrent and then what? Boil meth in clandestine lab?
Two little notes, guys:
1) ThySpektre: map unlocking is generally frowned upon on these boards. While we don't take one straight out line or position towards it, it is nevertheless a controversial subject. Other mods might have closed this and threads like this have been closed in the past. The reason I'm allowing it is because you're going to get enough community backlash over the subject anyway. As such, you don't get to tell people that them frowning on you is off-topic. I'll leave your thread open for serious answers, but they can frown all they want. It's a Lion King style balance. And I'm motherfucking Rafiki.
2) As said; frown all you want, but remember to keep it at least somewhat civil. If you're gonna frown, make a post more than one line and don't just throw insults around like poo. We're still good, but don't let the thread to degenerate into that.
Carry on.

Completely understood Mozared. However, had I opened a topic asking "Hey guys what do you think about map deprotection?" I'd expect some thoughtful, spirited conversation.
When I open a topic asking for help deprotecting a map, a discussion of the merits of the act is indeed off topic.
I'm quite the jovial fellow, but do tend to dish back when dumped on. I would expect a level of civility equal to or better than that provided to me.
Nice to meet you Rafiki.

Still thats a whole lot of work. With most safety systems now a days you only need it make it secure enough to make it so it requires more work to break into it than it goes to create it from the start, then your already in the minus. As said previously even by Tya who helped a little, he won't get much even if he's able to get anything. Thats 10s of 1000s of lines of coding he's got to sort throught and worse if the map has any popularity and the author has used some obfuscation of their own. And that too having anyone flag the map and report it or the player and he'll have it banned instantly which is sadly one of the few things blizzard is actually vigilant on; specially if it gains any popularity and blizzard even gets a whiff (i've seen this before). So he's only stuck on a tons of work that might benefit only himself, requires more work than if he had done it properly the first time, and will like end nowwhere. I'll still go back to my original point, if he has the skills to do what he's looking to do, he'd be able to do whats he's looking for without asking which is obviously isn't the case.
Wow, thats hilarious. Don't worries guys we have nothing to worry about with this one; he doesn't even have a clue.
How about a thoughtful article about poo slinging?
Poo Slinging can mean you are smart!
@hobbidude: Go
Galaxy is actually very easy to understand for anyone who knows C, really id think anyone who knows any mainstream language could easily read galaxy and determine what its doing. As far as writing it only real difference ive seen is it seems there are some prefix nameing conventions, like lv_ for local variable, idk if it wouldnt compile or run properlly without it, but again stuff like that doesnt even matter when your just reading the code so ya.
It would be surprising to me though, that someone whose supposedly a programmer like this guy would need to copy someones code instead of writing it themselves, ive written some of the stuff hes talking about and its not hard, might take several hours each, you could of done it in the time you spent trying to steal it assumeing your not stupid. I dont have a problem with learning, i looked at *open* maps on WC3 to learn origonally, and certainly the lack of open maps has made it harder for newbies in SC2 to learn which probabbly has hurt the map community. But by learnign i mean newbies, often times kids who dont even know anything about programming, not people who actually know how but are just too lazy to write their own code. WC3 was easy to mod in and that increased the number of maps due to the number of people who could make maps in this more simplistic system, the complexity of the SC2 editor has pushed many of these people out.
That being said i do not approve of stealing someones code when they explicitly told you not to. Its their code and you shouldnt be copying it without their permission. Not to mention if your from WC3 the trigger editor isnt all that differnt if i remember correctly. You have an obvious deficiency in personal morality, and seem to not understand the difference between right and wrong (there is a difference between "acknowledging" something is wrong, and actually believing it yourself). I would have banned you for obvious reasons, this is a website where people make maps and you come on here, to said website, asking how to steal our maps. However that isn't up to me.
I would also imagine that you are "in breach of contract" in at-least one if not numerous areas and would probably be per-ma banned by SC2 admins if they knew you where doing this. Although im not familiar wit the EULA or anything, i do know that these maps are the property of blizzard, not you, and you have no rights to them.
@Mozared: Go i don't wanna be civil especially with dead zergling accusing me of being bipolar.
@hobbidude: Go what im thinking of and what ur thinking of are abit different im thinking of some if-then-elses tweeked and variables locked. i also think blizzard doesn't care.
I would like to make my own note really quick. I was reading through posts and got bored about half way through, so I apologize if this has already been covered.
At any rate, a SC2 map is not analogous to a book. It is analogous to a program. Everyone may have access to the same tools, and for the most part people are willing to help you accomplish something. However, if it is something that is specific to one in particular map, chances are you aren't looking for some sort of broad idea, and are looking to copy something.
In other words, learn how to learn. Once you get to that point, you can literally do anything. I have gotten to the point where I am confident that I can make pretty much any map I want with little trouble. Lack of time is what is preventing me from doing so.
The ONE thing that has stumped me is how the dynamic pathing in Warships was accomplished. I wouldn't even know where to start. But there is a reason for that. That is a unique feature of that map. It is what makes it special, and what makes it popular. Why should someone automatically have the right to copy that?
So instead of answering your question, I am going to give you an alternative. Do what everyone else here does, and learn for experimenting and tutorials. Lots of maps are open source, so you can look at those. But even if you THINK that you are looking at a map for only learning purposes, you are going to wind up copying something. It is the author's choice whether or not they want you to be able to do that.
Anyways, I think I've said enough. Good luck.
Great to be back and part of the community again!
Asking, asking if you are :)
@ThySpektre: Go
I think most of us can agree that these points are mostly valid:
I don't really use data, is it easy/time efficient to learn from someone else's work in data?
Quote from Charysmatic:
@ThySpektre: Go
In most cases, you're not going to just be able to look at a part of someone's whole work and know exactly how it works/what else in the script makes it work, in other words, it's a waste of time and it's not going to get you anywhere.
----
That, I agree strongly with.
I would like to point out; that if you run a test map in windowed mode with the debugger open; and then log into sct after leaving said test map; with your debugger open; you can join any game and the debugger will run for that game. What this means to you? There is all of the map script; of any map. You can copy/paste it I believe; to see what does what. With this concept; you can READ all of a persons work; but you cannot copy/paste it. With the search feature, you can even trace global variables, to make sure you arent missing things.

Do some searching for it, there's a link on Mapster somewhere that explains how to unprotect maps. Theoretically you can map back the Galaxy Script to the Triggers file as well, but it's an awful lot of work, and to my knowledge, hasn't been done before. But again, it's possible.
@Sixen: Go NOOOOZ!!!
