Need to deprotect a map, any helpers? PM me.
I am an old WC3 map maker that would like to learn off a few SC2 maps. One in particular and need help deprotecting it.
PM me.

People usually lock their maps for a reason haha... Have you at least attempted to contact the author of the map?
I only ask this because I believe you are not allowed to do this. What kind of map is it? we may be able to guide you to a similar map.

I don't know about everyone but alot of us shun deprotecting other people's maps even though its easy and the protection is a joke but hopefully 2.1 will help fix this. There are plenty of maps and demos here for you to learn about and threes threads were we will give you information that you need. here is an example of a good thread or topic "How do i _ like in the game _".
Unlike joecab, i do not give you a warm welcome and i think you should be banned. I think anyone that helps you should be banned also. I find it even stranger that you want pm and not do this in public threads to deprotect.
Banning someone for something like this sounds kinda exaggerated to me. If it's against the rules, a warning would be more appropriate than a ban right off the bat, imo.
Though, as said before, the map is most likely protected for a reason, you should ask the author or look around the subforums here if you want to learn something (or make a thread, if you can't find anything).
Which map are you wanting to de-protect?
@ThySpektre: Go
The author has been contacted and is not willing to open his map. The map contains many features I'd like to learn. The map I am building would be private and not for public release.
I'd prefer not to name the map because of the stigma this creates. The map maker feels you are going to modify and rerelease his work, etc.
Why dont you try to learn coding the features by yourself and ask questions here on the forums once you get stuck? Is there anything specific you need?
@ThySpektre: Go
Wouldn't worry about stigma too much, you are just looking to learn, not sure about WC3, but back in SC/BW days, this was one of the only ways to learn anything, granted options were far more limited back then. However if a map is protected, it means they don't want people looking at their code, and that should be respected. So please, don't push that way any more if they don't want to reveal their techniques/code to you, that is their decision.
That said, can you at least name the features you are trying to learn more about? I'm kind of very much doubting they are unique to just this map. No stigma there either :P

Because, like most learning methods, learning by example is more efficient.

We disagree on this point. Imagine if someone were to copyright a book and then claim to be protecting the copyright by not allowing you to read the book.
There are many features and at this point I am not open to reinventing the wheel.
Not even willing to talk about what the features are huh, well I was on your side man, but it is sounding more and more like your idea of learning is scrolling over text and pressing CTRL + C. Good luck on getting handouts, freeloader.
The discussion should end right there. Its his work and he does not want to share it. I recommend reading tutorials or asking for someone to teach you how to do something rather than asking for someone to help you steal.

I'm not sure what a long list of features would contribute. Making contiguous pseudorandom terrain, maze pathing calculation, bank based conditional execution would be a few.
I appreciate the zeal in the responses to ths point. If the topic were, "how should I behave?" they would be spot on topic.
Since it was not however, if the point of your post is not "I can help you learn through deprotecting the map you have.", consider your response off topic.
You joined mapster 3 years ago and this is the first post you make?
I am pretty sure you could have learned quite a bit in those 3 years had you asked for help but for some reason you decided to wait 3 years to ask people to help you steal someones work.

Hmm, let me check the litmus test...Nope, not on topic.
Took me a total of 1 minute to locate this thread. Enjoy Mr. Copy and Paste.

Thanks for the assist. Yes, I found that thread a week ago. It is either incomplete or out of date.
It should be noted that current de-protecting methods don't work on a map's triggers; you only get the raw code which makes learning difficult.
If you are after "making contiguous pseudorandom terrain, maze pathing calculation, bank based conditional execution", then de-protecting a map won't help.
Visit "http://www.d3scene.com/forum/starcraft-2-forum/", they'll be better able to serve your requests.
I should point out that I don't support map de-protection, but there's nothing to be gained by ignoring it.
