Marine Arena
BEFORE YOU POST A COMMENT, PLEASE READ!
The only versions that I support, and that are regularly updated are: US Gateway version 1.0.0 (Published by Me and updated weekly) EU Gateway version (Published by MasterKiwa and updated every 1-2 weeks)
v0.9.9 is the old beta version and is no longer being updated.
The EU version has some minor differences since I've allowed Kiwa to edit and add to the map if he chooses to, but the core of the game between the versions is roughly the same.
Any other version not published by us, and on different gateways, is a stolen map, likely bugged, imbalanced, and completely unsupported by me. Anyone posting feedback on these versions are wasting their time since I dont care about the problems in those versions, talk to the guy who stole and edited my map without my permission.

Chrono Boost only increases build time, it doesnt increase spawning time or income. Its really only useful if you want to get a hero out quicker or build/morph something. Back in the day all the upgrades had build times, this is when this ability was useful. I removed the build time when I added the incrementing prices.
@Kaiku1 In my version, which should be yours aswell, unless the uploader keeps changing things (I sent him my lastest version last night), stalkers are powerful all-rounder units, but since they give huge bounty awards, they become useless feed for late gamers. Its counters are:
Marauders - Marauders do +armored damage and are cheaper, spawn faster, and can receive 3 more upgrades than stalkers for the same purchase price. Stimmed rauders with marines backing them up can carve through unteched stalkers, which is the time you use them to boost your resources, if you sit around all day and wait for those stalkers to get powerful, its your fault you didnt act sooner.
Vikings (To an Extent) - they also do +armored damage, and have a high base damage/life. Although they give a very high bounty, its not cost effective to use them unless you have teched marines backing them up.
Teched Marines - These annihilate stalkers. They can outrange them, and can fire extremely fast. It wont matter how much damage upgrades they have, your mass numbers of teched marines will cut through them, especially if they're dumb enough to blink into your marines, or even out of your marines (blinking in allows all marines to attack them, blinking out now makes your stalkers unable to range them).
The first thing you ever buy when doing teched marines is a shield merc, any T1 merc will do, but preferrably marauders since they get stim. After that, tech 2 range upgrades, and all 3 attack speed upgrades. From there, tech damage and health only, then when T2 mercs hit the game, tech the last range upgrade. You want attack speed/range first since the likelyhood that someone will only tech armor is pretty low.
Razorlings - Zerglings + Speedling + Crackling + Razor Claws x 100 units = a slaughter. If you're going razor lings you want to buy zerglings off the bat, tech to speedling and attackling, then at the first income, buy cracklings. Then from there, buy damage and armor, once stalkers hit the map, buy all 3 razor claw upgrades. Use your massive numbers to surround any stalkers that leave to attack someone. Set up burrowed ambushes everywhere. My friend and map editor (Fuglypump) uses this strategy all the time, and it works.
Thor - Yes, Thor. People dont realize how powerful thor is. He does 130 damage, has very high splash, and fires two guns. With his attack speed upgrades, you should position him in a choke point like the sides, behind the trees. This funnels anything, any merc, any army, directly into the Thor, that can just pick away at the first two units constantly. Bring a merc to shield it, and it'll slaughter anything that tries to attack from the sides. And anyone dumb enough to send air units at it will realize that its best damage is AA damage. Yesterday, I exploded a ball of 40+ mutalisks in 3 shots (1 from my hand cannon splash damage, was attacking a ground unit, and 2 from the AA guns).
Hey Crayon, can you comment on the following:
Chrono Boost- I don't think it works at all. I have tested and retested
How does the Mod determine how many resources you get after 10 mins? What are the factors if any to get more \ less
Is there any way to increase the damage on the High Templars
Please look in to it regardless. The fact that about 90% of the players on EU goes Stalkers should say something, and they aren't all newbies. Even if Cracklings (and Marauders) are supposed to stop them (which they don't really in my version), that can't be enough. They still beat Marines, Zealots, Hellions, Roaches, Mutalisks, Vikings and Void Rays. There should be more counters.
Even if Double Lance upgrade makes them do less damage against everything but light, the faster attack speed means they still end up doing way more damage than without, so it's not even a choice. Double Lance is a must.
there may be a few differences between our versions, but my partner (fuglypump) uses cracklings for his strat all the time. He techs their armor beyond marine's, and damage very high, then teched them with razor claws. I've seen his army of cracklings rip apart stalkers.
The downside with the stalker lancer is its weaker vs everything but light, and it increases the bounty awarded to 15, but it gains a much faster attack speed.
But that's not really what's happening. They beat Marauders easily, and maybe Cracklings could do well in a wide open field with a good surround, but there are not many opportunities for that. Also, Stalkers would never let themselves get surrounded like that, they just kite/blink away and fight in tight spots. It's also very unattractive to go Zerglings (and Zealots) as you'll just give the Hellion guy the day of his life.
I've tried both your suggestions (and fought against it) multiple times, and while it should work in theory, in practice Stalkers just beat it, especially with some micro and good positioning.
Isn't that Double Lance upgrade just too good? It says it's not good against armored, but that's hardly notable. Maybe it should do even less against armored, because it feels like it just doubles or triples it's DPS, even against Marauders. And with such fast attack speed, attack upgrades are insanely good.
How can we play a version ahead of your own? Has someone edited stuff and published it himself? Are you looking for a EU publisher?
Awesome Mod. Pretty much the only one I play.
Couple of things
Couple questions:
Does the ability to increase production by 50% actually work? (Using the supportive tower) I didn't notice a difference and tried to time it
Using the High Templar, what does it effect on him if you increase his damage?
Thanks for the great mod!
Should be 0.9.9 v1.xx
Stalkers countered by Marauders, or Cracklings with razor claw upgrades.
Version 0.10.1 v2.7
Is what we're playing on EU. Is that right?
Edit: I also found a v5.0 waaay down the list, but no one plays that.
Hello, here's some feedback from EU realm.
First, thanks for the great map and nice job creating it. It's really popular here. It's my favorite map and I've played it dozens of times, so I should have some experience and I hope I know what I'm talking about, a little at least.
I'm not sure about the version we're playing, but it's the one were Mutalisk HP has been lowered.
The biggest issue I have is with Stalkers. Stalkers are just overpowered, period.
At first, when I was still experimenting with everything it was kind of fun, as I easily won when I went Stalkers - most people were new too and went random stuff.
But now, EVERYONE goes stalkers, and you have to. The occasional poor newbie still goes Zealots or Roaches or something, but they lose hard.
It seems the only possible build is to go Stalkers and upgrade them (with priority on weapons), and that is what 90% of the players do.
I've tried other things. Seeing if I could counter it, with upgraded Marines, Cracklings, Mutalisks, Roaches, heroes, etc... But the Stalkers just slaughter everything. Even without Blink they would be overpowered, but they have that too.
It's not fun anymore when every game is the same, where you're forced to go Stalkers and fight other Stalkers.
Maybe nerfing them a little, and (/or) making a unit that specifically counters Stalkers would be good, I think.
Now, even if there is a good way to counter them which I've missed, I still think they're overpowered *compared to the other mercs,* which still isn't good.
These days I hardly see heroes anymore (everyone seems to prefer +1 on their Stalkers over a hero), though some are quite worth it (Templars, Collossus, etc.) but I think in general they're a little underpowered and/or too expensive, though I'll probably see them more if Stalkers get nerfed.
hmm. is there a way to make is so that if some one force attacks it knows the difference? cause this guy literally killed all my turrets and killed the merc compound because he wouldnt get kicked for it. he then would kill my units and try to guide the last opponent to my side to get me killed off. Definately griefing there. in the end he tried attacking my cc 3 times and got booted.
No that wont work, too much splash damage in the game.
Need to include all allied units for griefing. i just was in a game where my ally killed my merc building and all my units while i was attacking another player.
Hey Ho Crayon.
Iam from German and my friends and i Play every day your Marine Arena... is the best mod for SC2 i know.
i have someone ideas.
The heros are not playable. Only with Heros you have not enough Money to upgrade your Hero so much that he beat the Mercs from the other Players.
Heros must be a litte cheaper and make more dmg.
I hope you work on the map for more updates and the people that steeling your map must die.
Chris from German
Actually, i have no idea which version i've been playing.. I just always go to ''join game'', and then you see the 10 or something most populair maps, or most played.. whatever.. and i pick marine-arena there.. Dunno how to check for a different version or what not.. (i'm a EU player btw, maybe that's a difference)..
The thing is, the version i play, and still play, together with many many many other players, still has the vespene gas bug, and the bug where archon's do NOT do splash dmg (making them rather useless). And in this versions heroes are very weak.
In general i think stalkers are rather overpowered.. u see stalkers winning every single game.. as 2 stalkers beat 1 mutalisk, 1 void or 1 viking, the stalkers are the obvious best choice. (good defence, high hp (with the shield upgrade), good dmg and fast atk speed.. + the blink.. :)
i dont know if this is a bug or not, but when i spawned my infestor, it didnt shoot "EVERYTING". i was on the southeast corner. i was surrounded by marines and i spawned my infestor and it didnt kill any of the marines. am i using it wrongh?
I dont rally point them, i do use them prior to losing forces. each time even though the other player does not back away they survive and just kill me.
Madd if you want to be insulting do it ftf. otherwise, be quiet.
As a point of fact, Ive noticed that i can take a force into a base and just burn down a CC even with a savior active.
There is no "attack-move" for the saviors, rally points are "move" only, so you cannot rally point a savior and expect it to come out shooting. Blame blizzard for this, because it used to be "attack-move" for rally points, but they went and changed it sometime in the beta. You need to set a short rally point for them, or set your rally point on an enemy unit, so it comes out, stops, and startings killing everything.
that means u suck eliarkmm...u use saviors before u lose ur forces....not after. I mean how are u to counter other enemies or another wave if you dont have shit. thats not a complaint ....u just suck
Saviors arent anywhere near what they used to be. ive literally wasted 3 saviors and still died from the same attack early game. players do know this and just build up and rush you.
Yeah you'd be playing the one published by me then, that looks like the one from the US server.
