List of modes in Ikari Warriors
Singleplayer
Game mode where you will have to finish the selected level alone with limited lives.
Quote from Singleplayer:
Difficulty in singleplayer is not your main concern. It is oriented at training and exploring both levels, even though the experience can become quite challenging already in the hardest modes. Lobby settings: One player, no AI, any difficulty setting, any starting level
Bot mode
Singleplayer mode where the character controlled by the AI will simulate human players behaviors.
Quote from Bot mode:
(planned for Ikari Warriors v3.0) Lobby settings: One player, one computer AI, any difficulty setting, any starting level
Cooperation
Game mode where you will play with a teammate to finish the selected level with limited lives.
Quote from Cooperation:
Cooperation mode is designed for the most hardcore players, as the hardest level of difficulty available cannot be reached unless playing in duo. This mode assumes you already played Ikari Warriors multiple times and know the levels well enough to be able to counter twice as much enemies as the singleplayer experience provides. Lobby settings: Two players, no AI, any difficulty setting, any starting level
Boss rush
Singleplayer rush mode where you fight each boss and try to achieve the best time.

Easy
Quote from Easy:
This mode contains mainly infantry units, some vehicles, and occasionally bunkers. Landing or carried groups consists of 2 to 4 units. For shmups wonderers, cooperation mode training, or showing off in front of your girlfriend.
Medium
Quote from Medium:
This mode features a bit less than 50% of the gaming experience you should expect from Ikari Warriors. You will encounter any kind of units and vehicles, and landing or carried groups consists of 3 to 6 units. For shmups novices, average players, singleplayer training, or mocking your girlfriend.
Hard
Quote from Hard:
This mode features a good coverage of the gaming experience you should expect from Ikari Warriors. You will encounter any kind of units and vehicles, and landing or carried groups consists of 4 to 8 units. For shmups lovers, good players, group suicide, or breaking up with your girlfriend.
Very hard
Quote from Very hard:
This mode is intended for good shmups or hardcore players only. It requires enough skills to anticipate all projectiles, handling flank attacks, and to know when to attack. It is not advised to try Ikari Warriors for the first time in this mode, as landing or carried groups consists of 5 to 10 units, which is up to twice the amount of enemies and vehicles of medium mode.
Insane
Quote from Insane:
Insane mode for insane players. It's 100% of the Ikari Warriors experience as it was designed, every single unit is where it was meant to be. Playing insane cooperation mode is reserved to the only few hardcore players who think 200% is the only way to be. Either way, singleplayer or cooperation mode in insane difficulty also means you'll find less items and more enemies than any other mode.
