Custom Campaign Initiative
The Custom Campaign Initiative (CCI) is a centralization of authors and projects that are intended to mimic the Blizzard single-player campaign format.
List of Custom Campaigns (With descriptions)
List of Custom Campaigns (Based on project status)
Check other pages of the CCI for tutorials and other stuff.
What level of quality is required for listed projects?
1) Mission can be played by using Starcraft II editor. Because this is Starcraft II editor community.
2) Map and Mod files are available for download. Because we want to learn from other campaign projects.
3) A series of at least two missions. Because one mission is not campaign.
4) Missions are playable as single player. Because campaign scene is designed for single player.
5) These two missions do not need to be up to date, polished and perfect, but playable with no show stoppers. Because we dont want to waste our time on very bad quality stuff.
CCI authors will check these requirements before listing projects but CCI authors do not frequently check projects after listing.
How does the Custom Campaign Initiative work?
The CCI is a bunch of people who work on their own projects but want to list their work under one project.
By listing all projects together each invidual project gains more downloads and whole Starcraft II campaign scene gets more attention.
The CCI works like Wikipedia. All authors are allowed to edit pages. This project is linking page so files are not allowed directly on CCI.
How do I join the Custom Campaign Initiative?
If you are interested in becoming a part of the CCI send PM to Terhonator or other authors of this project.

Well, if you want to know, I suppose I could give you some insight of how I do it personally. Everybody has different methods, I would assume.
The story is the main thing, obviously. It's the thing that keeps the campaign moving, and prior to releasing the first mission of Annihilation, I had been working on the story up to one year beforehand, slowly building more and more. At this point I know almost every detail.
When it comes to making the actual missions, I tend to imagine how the gameplay will flow and how many sections I will have. From that, I try to calculate how big of a map I might need, and how it should be layed out. So, I kind of draw the map layout mentally, and try to stick to it as much as I can. I attempted to do drawings of the maps in advance, but I don't anymore because I tend to make iterations as I develop the terrain, and as a result the map layout changes, so the drawing becomes redundant.
The start of the mission is always the most challenging, when you just find yourself with this huge field. Even when you have a plan to go after, the beginning always screws you over. But once I get that done I find that my mental images work pretty well.
SO MANY GREAT NEW THINGS! I've got my work cut out for me.
So with so many good campaigners =), I was just wondering how you all go about it? I mean, first you come up with a story and the start drawing your missions on a paper or what? I could be interesting to hear how you do. Sorry if I'm posting this at the wrong place
So many new campaign projects have been showing up lately. It's awesome to see that the campaign scene is starting to take off to such an extent!
I too want to thank you for adding my Campaign here! I be sure to test many of your Campaigns! Many looks awsome!! If you feel up to it, please test my Campaign and leave any comment.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for adding the Antioch Chronicles here. We'll be pushing frequent updates to the campaign, so keep your eyes peeled!

Thanks for the reply! Well, It's gonna be a long time until I try to make a campaign, so I'm sure that I might have enough experience by then to do something like that.
You can do that for sure, but that is some advanced level stuff.
I wanted to know, let's say that I'm making a campaign, and we play the first map. On the first map, there could be a few secrets which can lead to getting rewards on the next one. Is this possible to do? (I'm thinking something along the lines of being able to pick up different items that will let you change your hero's unit on the next map.)
Hey Neznansk,
I noticed on the SC2 "story" forums that several people were trying to collaborate on making a custom campaign. Perhaps hit them up.
The editor is not that complicated, but it indeed takes a lot of time even if you are a dedicated programmer. However, you can make decent missions with simple triggers and some data editing that can tell a decent story. My biggest advice is to take your favorite Wol or Hots mission or even a Mass Recall Mission and just steal their terrain and erase all triggers and unnecessary units. This will expose you to all the doodads, shading, special effects and a lot of the units. If you just disable the triggers then you might even be able to use some of them and look at the developers flow of the game and try to mimic it. As you make your story imagine it on that setting and make necessary changes as you need to the terrain. At the end, you will have a completely different map, but its way better than starting with a blank map.
Hello!
Creating a custom sc campaign is a sort of old dream of mine, and it comes and goes occupying my mind. Like all of us, I suppose, I am too busy with other things to dedicate myself to both learn all the aspects of map creation (especially as the starcraft II map editor got further more complicated than those of previous Blizzard games) and to actually create the campaign myself. However, the aspect I am most interested in, really, is that of the story writing -- a task which, if I might say so, I believe I can adequately perform, though you should not take my word for it until you see an example -- and I was thinking of writing a "campaign script", something that for a starcraft campaign is equivalent to what a screenplay is for a movie. I might do that regardless, but if anyone is interested in collaboration from the get go -- could be nicer and also more motivating. We could actually do a complete "distributed production", with anyone whose good at or likes a particular aspect of map making, only doing that; so I'd write the plot and dialogues, another or others make terrain, other works on custom units or triggers or AI or what not, and even if each individually has only limited time, together we could create something great. I began such a collaboration with njordis (of Bio-Tech Company and Ignos) in the past though it had fallen though due to time constrains on his part back at that time -- but I know he loves and is great at making terrain, so perhaps he'd hop-on this time? ;) Also, I'm interested in making the campaign fully voiced, and I think I have the resources to do so -- if that's further enticement.
As for what I have in mind in general terms: I have a rough draft in my head for a new campaign, and it's not a mono-race one; every map, yes, but not the campaign as a whole. While in the Blizzard games they have the story broken down to "Terran Episode", "Zerg Episode" and so on, I have in mind a campaign where the player plays different sides on different missions, e.g, missions 1-2 can be terran, mission 3 is protoss, 4 is zerg, 5 is protoss again and so on, so the player experiences the same conflict from different points of view.
Also-- I think Blizzard screwed up with the SC2 campaign in several ways, but one of the things I didn't like about it -- a trend that began in WC III, I believe, though it was more fitting there, in my opinion -- is that it was too "grand scale"/ dramatic/ absolute-good-versus-evil. The way I think about it is that while, for example, in the middle ages everyone was concerned about their souls and doomsday and the apocalypse and such things, the "interesting stuff" and what most people were occupied with (or at least on the political/military level) were petty conflicts between neighboring baronies or counties or kingdoms and such. So I'd like to write such more "personal" story, probably concentrating on a single planet (that is not necessarily, or, rather, necessarily not, politically united) and the events on it. Also, I'd like it to "follow"/shadow the canon story, running parallel to it, so things that happen on the canon sc campaign can "effect" the custom campaign (such as the take over of Aiur by the Zerg, for example, or the fall of the confederacy). Particularly, the campaign I have in mind begins roughly at the same time as the SC I campaign or slightly before, so the mass recall mod would be useful :)
Anyone thinks their interested?
P.S.
Just wanted to mention; probably due to the fact that stories are really about people, individuals, often custom campaigns tend to be consisted of--or that's my impression at least --rpg/diablo-like explore-the-map-with-your-hero typo of maps, which I personally usually don't find to be as fun as the more "regular" maps such as those consisting most of the SC I campaigns. Therefore, my personal aim is to write the campaign such that it involves maps with some amount of macro.
Thanks for adding a link to my channel. Bro fist.
Did some sprucing up. Let me know what you think! Leave feedback if you play someone's campaign or mission!! We love it!
Hi. Custom Campaign Initiative was marked as "inactive" for 2 or 3 days. No need to worry this happens only because CCI page has no files on "Files" section and project with no files are marked as "inactive" after some perioid. This project works only as link page and changes on linked projects are not updated as "updates" for this project.
Hey guys has anyone thought of Remaking the old Antioch Chronicles maps? just a thought, not a map maker, but willing to Donate just to see them done, there to good not to be remade like Mass Recall maps, and i think it would also give the CCI more attention like Mass Recall did
Hey Jay,
I will PM you. We should be PMing as a group to promote more cohesion. Unfortunately, I'm such a newbie at this still that I feel totally unqualified for your video. However, Gradius, Dudki, Njordys and Evindl, Revolution Tehrnonator would be great folks to talk too and interview!! Your idea sounds really cool!!
I'll try to send something out to our crew in the next day or two.
Thanks for adding a link to my channel!
I'm not sure who will end up seeing this, or which authors are even still active on the site, but I have an idea for a video/series. Would any mapmakers be interested in doing a one time podcast-type interview to discuss mapmaking for Starcraft over Skype? It could be from a technical perspective, your personal motivations/ideas, or really anything in any format. The only issue is that I am a spoiled American who only speaks English (the more time I spend involved with this community, the worse I feel about this!), so anyone who wants to try something like this with me would have to be comfortable with speaking at least somewhat understandable English. If there's a decent reception, it could be multi-part with multiple authors. This is something we could post on Reddit and Battle.net to maybe get CCI more attention.
We have really seen a renaissance of sorts in the mapmaking community this year and I think it may continue to grow as many are anticipating a LotV announcement at Blizzcon this year. I'm hopeful this will breathe more life into the Arcade scene and maybe Blizzard will give it some much-needed attention.
PM or respond here if there's any interest.
I created a list of pretty much every map/campaign since SC2 was released:
http://sclegacy.com/forums/showthread.php?16088-StarCraft-2-Fan-Campaigns-amp-Scenarios-Listing&p=195078
A bit different than the CCI since it includes pretty much everything else, sorted by release date with some extra information. Will continue to update.
Thanks to all authors who have created, found and added more campaigns to this project!
