I'm with Dogmai's camp. Blizzard obviously learned from Dota, the entire popularity system is catered so people only play mega maps. If a mega-map like Dota do arrive, no doubt blizzard will do whatever they can to make that mega-map a success. Increase script size, map size, whatever.

Well, the problem is, you need to be more humble. I tried to explain to you, why your map isn't all that. There's complaints, but you are as bad as meph who thinks his maps are #1. You were lashing out at all those critics. Who's the angry mapper now?

And guess what, whenever there's a new 10k map, there's a lot of new players. Even if they don't stick around, for that short while, new players were coming in. Those maps had their time and disappears. Making way for other 10k maps. That's how the system should work, and if it actually worked that way, page 1 would be filled with lots 10k maps. You were using a big b.net flaw to justify your page 1 existence. Fail.

Actually, if he wants to use hanging on in page 1 as excuse for being good, then zealot frenzy actually sucks. Here's why.

In the past few months, there has been a few maps that gets 10k+ hours. When a map is that popular, it brings an influx of players into the system. Maps with 5k or lower are maps that aren't bringing in new players. They are stubbornly hanging on page 1 or 2 and not letting other great maps that could get great hours.

Look at elemental TD, it was bleeding players ever since release. It was a very bad map in the sense it was holding up a slot in the top 2 pages that could have gone to a really great map. Zealot Frenzy's number has been steady. Its not quite as bad as elemental TD since its not bleeding players as much. But its not attracting new players to the system either.

In short, a good page 1 map is one that has really high hours played. A really high hours played means it was attracting players into the system when it got up there. If it doesn't attract new players into the system, get out and give another map a chance. Zealot Frenzy's low page 1 hours is helping bleeding players out of the system. Make sense?

Are you talking about maps in the project development forum? I was thinking the other day, how come I never see any of those maps in game? Some of them were actually released, but I never see them. :( At this point, when I see a new map project, I just go wow. But then I know I won't actually get to play it. But here's hoping for starcraft universe will actually appear in b.net. *Cross your fingers!*

I'm tired of the personal attacks too. The first few responses from soulcarver, vexal, and chiquhiat were direct flames to rodrigo. They seem to really like to flame people, I myself got personally flamed by that chiquit guy not long ago. I realized flaming is a way to win arguments by making opposing posters not want to participate, and a lot of posters in this forum like to use that tactic. The OP isn't far off, but its only the half truth.

The other half of the truth is people also hate really simple and easy games. A truly popular map is actually one that's not too simple-minded and not frustrating hard. Really simple maps are for beginners and kids, while the frustrating hard maps are for hardcore players. TD maps are just really stripped down versions of RTS defense games, with many elements removed - like resource gathering and base building. You just build towers while retaining the defense aspect of the game.

Vexel, Chi, Rod is complimenting you guys. Obviously he doesn't mean your TDs, just squad's TD because that's the #1 map. Vexal TD and Elemental aren't that popular, thus they are the fun map as oppose to the fonne Squad map. That's the logic behind Koster, no? Otherwise it would make no sense to have non-TD maps that are not in page 1.

But vortexx is right, blizzard is trending toward a money grabbing company. It is not necessary bad, I don't care if they can milk more money so long as it doesn't affect my gameplay. I even support the 3 part expansion because it does improve the campaign aspect of the game. And I don't see how diablo3 AH can affect me, there are always people with farmed gear better than mine. So if they got it off AH by paying $, good for them.

Wow, that's awesome! Now I want to play a map like that. Hmm, its as Vexal said, its not hard to make. So someone make a battle.net version already with co-op! I got some ideas now too, how about 4 or 5 co-op vs a boss like that!

The custom map system is harder to fix too. Even the haters can't agree on a single fix. Chat and real ID are easy fixes. They even added bookmarks and fun or not, tho no one raged for them. I don't think they'll fix the system until the playerbase drop below a certain threshold. So far, the players have dropped a lot since launch, but judging by the hours played, its pretty stable now. There's enough new maps trickling it to keep the current playerbase interested.

I would say wait till marketplace come out. If there's so few people using it, they may fix the system so there's a flood of players. To get a flood of plaeyrs, they would need to actually fix the system.

I think there are great and sucky maps from page 1 to 100. In page 1 alone, I like only 2 maps. So the entire custom map system for me, only exists 2 maps. Unlike the old system, the custom scene exists hundreds of maps because I could play any of them. It is like a candyland in the old system! I can spend countless hours playing countless maps.

But candy is bad and makes you fat. SC2 is very healthy, with only 2 maps in existence, I rarely play it after I exhaust the fun from those 2 maps. After maybe a few days of play, I'm done with the custom map games. Slim and healthy!

Easy fix for fun or not, change it to the cyclic list. Did people ever see it in action? Its a list that constantly cycles, so new maps pop up all the time. Becuse they are in page 1, people click to join. And because you can see the name of the map before you join, you can avoid playing maps you know you won't like. Fun or not is stupid because people are always ninja quitting to avoid maps they don't want. Otherwise, fun or not is a great system.
