Yup! A lot of maps I played like fleet assault and magecraft(forgot name) were very complicated! But that's probably because sc2 lets you do so much more. And personally, I like making complex maps that a newbie would just go, wtf? People would still play it though if they like it enough to learn. And I think the author would probably simplify it more if their maps actually get played. But why bother spending time streamlining when no one is going to play it anyways?
My starcruiser map is very complicated, but I made the map and I know every inch of the map. I thought about simplifying the UI to make it easier, but nah, I'm not bothering with the trouble. People who enjoyed that map learned how to play it anyways.
Also, yes the map evolution I'm talking about is what mozared said.
Ah that's just it. People aren't mapping because people can't play those new maps. Plus most mappers are from war3, this isn't newbie war3 era when people don't know what they are doing. A lot of mappers are already experts.
Also there's a huge fallacy that the haters ares a loud minority voice. In reality, its the minority that supports the system. Its the minority that's playing page 1 maps. The majority aren't playing because they CAN'T!
We already have lots better maps than page 1 stuffs. You just can't play them 'easily' like in real b.net. And as such, a mega map like DOTA which took years of war3 map evolution to achieve won't ever appear for sc2. So in the end, war3 maps will always be better than sc2 stuffs.
I am trying to make a custom model with a 'flowing tail' like the corruptor as cloth effect. But I can't figure out how blizzard made the tails. I export the corruptor model, but the exported model doesn't include the tail. So its done some other way, anyone know?
What's wrong with you Mozred, Crainy hit the nail on the head. You seriously think if war 3 had b.net 0.2, it'll have an active custom map scene? At the end of the road, judging by the 60k+ maps out there, all the reasons listed from hard to use sc2 editor and the lack of fantasy units didn't matter. People wanted to make maps. B.net 0.2 killed the community.
I have a unit with weapon like this! I used the trigger solution and it works perfectly. Haven't thought about using behaviors tho..it could work but I remember trying to put behaviors on missile units before. And I remember that behaviors do not work on missile units...maybe I did something wrong then...
This bug has been around forever. Anyone remember when Nexus Wars used to filled up the top 50 slots? :) The bug is mostly fixed now but every now and then, multiple maps will appear at once. The duplicates won't gain any hours at all and will disappear pretty fast.
I have the attachment points center, origin, target, and damage. I don't think it has anything to do with attachment points, I noticed the invisible pylon mesh which has all the attachments also won't track. (it has no mesh) Or maybe the attachments are attached wrong...i don't know.
Has anyone made a custom model that works whit missiles tracking their models? Most people don't use slow moving missiles, they shoot so fast they may not notice this problem.
other notes: I'm using 3dsmax 8 and import/export plugins version 1.7. (the only import/export plugins on this site) Version 1.8 is the latest but that version won't work, keep getting some errors with 3dsmax 8. And I just tried using sc2 models using the tools and that has the same problem too. So I'm guessing its a issue with the plugin 1.7. Does 1.8 have the same problem?
Just imported some wow models into sc2. Everything works fine except when missiles fire at the wow models, they won't track. They'll hit the unit's position when the missile is fired. It'll explode and damage the unit, but by then the unit has moved off into some distance. I'm using very slow missile movers.
If I just replace the wow model with regular sc2 model, the missiles will track fine and impact on wherever the unit is currently at. Anyone know what the problem is?
Yeah, but your Hero Attack map was buried for months before it reached #2 though. The problems is, there's tons of supporters of the current system. Remember when Element TD was released? You got supporters who keep going on - element TD went from 0 hours to page 1..the system is fine! And then you got other people who likes to troll you if you say the system sucks. One time I went on about how blizzard doesn't have your best interest at heart, and I got trolled by a poster saying I'm paranoid! (forgot the poster name, but he was data editor for element TD)
The system do suck, but at the same time, enough people like it that they won't really fix it. The proposed changes in HOTS looks like an elaborate version of the current system. So I think the era of useful b.net is gone and isn't coming back... but we'll see. Still got hope they'll really fix the system in HOTS for the players.
Lets say infestor casts mind control on a unit. And that unit triggers a trigger, and I need to find the caster who is mind controlling that unit. How do I find the original infestor who cast the mind control spell?
People don't like fun or not because they can't choose what maps to join. The fun or not lobby has a high amount of leavers because they already know they don't want to play that map. Its a huge flaw that can be fixed by showing us a few maps to choose from.
But then if they do that, blizzard will end up with the old system...oh noes!!
On the other hand, there's a natural map of the week going on in the US server. Every week, there has been a new map rising to the top out of nowhere. It stays for awhile then drop off. Another new map rises to the top. Generally, its about 1 new map per week. Currently, there's THREE new map at the top. Gem TD, Last Stand, and Space Zombies.
Guess the map of the week is already happening on its own.
Also have to say, been able to play one new map a week makes the custom map a lot more fun. People keep coming back next week to see what new map to play. The good old days are done, but so long as this natural map of week keeps happening, custom mapping remains fun.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Looks like a lot of the stuffs are sc2 physics. Probably will need an official blizzard tool to use them. Oh well..

You can use Show/Hide UI Frame. Just hide all the UI frame you don't want, and keep what you want on screen.
