You can attach actors to a unit actor for selecting/highlighting purpose. You can set their visibility to 0, too.
I'm using that since a few days to improve the highlightability and clickability of my monsters.
My "infinite" upgrades are a dummy train ability which starts a trigger that applies effects via catalog including raising weapon levels. You do not notice that at all. Using a train ability might not the best choice as DrSuperEvil suggested Augment ability. I think I've tested 100k upgrades and it was fine.
Before 1.5 upgrades had an actual max working level of 107 I think despite the 255 value limit in the upgrade.
- Is there a backup copy? (sc2 creates a backup during the saving process which is deleted on successful saving)
- Is the file size normal for your map or way to low?
- Is the map openable with mpq editors to rescue the information stored inside the map?
- Is the editor you try to open the map with the default editor (and not accidentally the arcade beta editor)?
- Tried opening the map with an old editor in case you got any older editor on any computer/laptop around? Opening a map with a 1.4.2 editor "fixed" my map a few times already during arcade beta. (I edited my map with an mpq editor and then I couldn't open it anymore. Map files seemed to be protected against that in the editor.)

1. Make a copy of that file and ask the Blizzard guys in the irc chat on workdays to examine the file and find the source of that bug, so the editor handles that situation in a future release. This is clearly something that shouldn't have happened in the editor. ;)
2. You can change the localization in the editor's settings. It will download the localized sc2 files then. It might work then.
I guess that the localization is the problem due to the described behavior. If you can open it using that EU guys' localization, it might work. Maybe changing the locale in the editor and/or the settings in the editor make it load.
If you have problems doing that, you can always use a program made by the admin of teamliquid to change it.
Alternatively you can change the locales in the variables.txt file in your OS's user profile folder. There is a StarCraft II folder containing that file.

Save your map as "Component Folder" and do whatever you like in the folder.

Oh, great. I will use that in future...
That might fix the distortion my town portal model (mothership vortex) has when being revealed.

I have to correct myself: It was the opacity and not visibility.

Make a doodad/unit with a 1x1 footprint with "no build" applied and place it there.

@Kabelkorven: Go He meant the blue version of the textures the SCV's flame uses.

Did they change all StarCraft ratings or was it always rated M in Australia?

You shall not use variables in preload!

Tried choosing a stage in the event?
Maybe that can help... but I've no idea why that error appears.
I would add chat messages after each action to see where it fails when it fails.

@xxxNEARBYxxx: Go Try another name for your banks.
No spaces, no special chars!!!
So, use a bank name like "awesomeSave".
It fails to load banks with special chars resulting in a new bank on every map load. However, maps can save bank files with those chars...

Basically you do exactly what you said.
