Simple question. How do I make a unit group of random units already placed on a map? I've been using the editor for about 3 days now and this would certainly help me with what I'm trying to do. I've found the unit group variable, but the closest thing I can find to define it is "Convert unit to unit group" which only does one unit, and I need quite a few to add to it. Please and thank you.
I need some help with Abilities, I need to make an ability that shoots a ball of fire, I would like the fireball to charge during the Firebat's attack animation. I would also like an ability that allows my Firebat to leave a trail of fire behind him when he walks and makes him walk in the shape of a pentagram...If anyone can help me it would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
Also, is it possible to change the hotkey assigned to an ability? I've been playing with adding the Banshee's cloak to a Viking, but the key for decloak (D) is the same as for transform to assault mode. It's very annoying when I'm in the middle of a stealth assault, ready to transform and wipe out that swarm of Hydralisks, but instead I accidentally decloak and half my squadron gets wiped out.
Can someone make a tutorial on how to make a unit be shown sideways from a top view? Basically how to rotate the unit model without moving the camera angle of the whole map.
Can someone make a tutorial for summoning units a certain way?
Terran brought in mercanary style(drop pod falls down, ships just drop down)
Protoss brought in through warpgate(would it be possible to do it for all units)
Zerg brought in burrowed or by Nydus Worm
so this is making me feel increadibly stupid, but is there any tutorial on setting up a map to run properly as a simple melee style map?
I spent years getting good with the old sc1 map editor and the fact that ive got no freaking clue what im missing is making me die inside.
theres billions of tutorials on everything, but even the ones labeled "noob guide" or "basic guide" or w/e are all more advanced then what im looking for...
I have a map
I have start locations
I load it up as a "vs AI" FFA melee map, can pick race from lobby etc etc
no one has any units...
with sc1 if you loaded up as a melee map, it automatically started you with your headquarters + 4 builders. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what im doing wrong here. halp!
ive spent the last 2 hrs looking through every tutorial that might have info, and im finding nothing useful :(
so, aparently if you import a SC1 map, it wipes the default melee triggers, and thats what I did cause I needed a base to start from that I was familiar with. alrighty then, lol I'll leave this here incase anyone else is pulling teeth out like I was.
Well i got a game breaking problem, i used some spawn triggers and let them autoattack a certain point, al goes wel until the player blocks of the pad with bunkers or something else, then the walk to the side of the terrain walls and mass there. Can anyone help me with this, the need to attack the bunkers on that pad, but the won't do it.
I've been looking around everywhere for a tutorial on how to use gates and doors. I'm surprised there is not a guide out there, as most people seem to have resorted to using supply depots as doors. I would like a guide to setting up doors to open and close with a lever, or opening/closing when a unit tries to walk through.
@Poki: Check out TZeratul01.SCMap to see how to open/close a door.
Namely, it uses:
Unit - Order Xel'Naga Temple Door - (URDL) [78.00, 44.00] to ( Temple Door Down (URDL)) (Replace Existing Orders)
Joeness, create a new map, open the triggers window, copy the "Melee initialization" trigger (or whatever its called. Theres only 1 trigger, you cant miss it), and paste it into your map. i believe that should be it (if you placed all starting locations, etc.)
I'd simply like to know how to edit what a building produces. For example:
Instead of a Barracks creating 1 Marine, let's say, I'd like it to produce a Marine and a Zergling.
This how-to may already be available on this site, however, I could not find it. If so, can someone direct me??
Thanks! -WhoJu
quite easy: open data editor. go to abilitys. find "Barracks - Train". dubble click "Ability - Info". dubble click "Train 01 | Train Marine | Marine". scrol down to the buttom. at Info Unit hit the green X to get a new entry and select the unit you want to add. close all open windows with OK. save, and it should work.
Okay, so far every request I've had I've been able to figure out. Now I'm having an issue. I have a vehicle with a unit in it. When the vehicle dies I want the unit to take damage. I went into the data editor and made it so cargo doesn't die and I've tried a few triggers but I get parameter errors. If theres someone that could "turn" this into a trigger that would be helpful.
Basically, if unit from vehicles group dies, cargo unit in unit from vehicles group takes x damage.
Closest things I can find deal with specific units from the unit group and not any. : /
I'd like an in-depth tutorial on effects, behaviors, and anything related to them that's needed to make them work.
Seriously, with all these new things in the Data editor and nowhere to learn the basics, I'm pretty much stumped to do anything that isn't purely trigger-based.
My request is a bit different, I think... My family has this story we've been telling for years, and I thought it'd be kinda fun to try and create a cinematic of this story. But I really don't know the full capabilities of the editor. I assume what I'm envisioning is possible since I'd seen in game cinematics that were a bit more complex than a bunch of units on the field fighting it out...
Pretty much for the opening sequence a starship flying through space, eventually coming upon a planet and landing. Then having a small force of units come out of the ship (well I know they wont be able to actually come out of the ship, but popup on the ground next to or under it...
The rest should be fairly easy, the group travels around eventually coming upon a force of enemy units, etc... But it's the opening I'm really unsure of creating... Anyone?

I don't know if it helps any, but maybe try using a turret for the Bcruiser guns? Like the Uberlisk. Not sure how to do that.

Im still looking for help with:
Player picks up health pack and gains health tutorial. Player's secondary fire throws grenades tutorial.
Any help or pointers to tutorials that will help, much appreciated.
Come on experianced editors, we're like fish out of water here!

I would like to see a custom unit tutorial that isn't out of date. Current ones I have found will give a white/black blob or no sound or anything.
In the Beta it was pretty easy to make one but now it's so confusing.

Works! Thanks for the quick response!

How to create new units / copy them from existing ones.
