@RileyStarcraft - No offense, as I know you have experience with the Data Editor, but if you think customization is limited then you really didn't experiment enough at all.
@ghoohg - For now, yes, but I know there are more coming given that many of the entrants have been working with me to get the bugs out of their models :)
I think the contest just slightly missed the point.
You can make amazing units using just one or two attachments. For instance, adding a psi storm spark field and/or disruption web lightning attachment to a high templar improves the model tenfold, and there is an infestor missile with wavy tentacles that can easily be flattened and turned into 'Tyrael wings'.
But attachments aren't all there is: proper use of scale (zealots look much less like a brick with the Z scale bumped up), actor events, sounds, animations and a new weapon can also make a world of difference. However, the topic focuses only on attachments. This encourages only 'attachment tower' models at the cost of everything else.
Maybe the theme should be about the best unit, not the best use of attachments - since the best use of attachments in the real world is limited to finding exactly two models that go well together and attaching them.
@BrotherLaz - If you read what Sixen mentioned: "We're looking for a combination of it all, really. How in depth can you get with the editor?"
That implies that it's not just about attachments. If you're assuming that you can just throw a bunch of attachments together and make it to the top I highly doubt it. As mentioned, the PUBLIC is voting meaning that if there are other people like you, they're going to be looking for the things you mentioned anyways. Thus if the rules don't say "attachments only" don't assume that's what's expected.
Maybe I misunderstood the contest then because "You have to make a creature combining existing models. Do you remember the Uberlisk from Blizzard, well it's now your time to combine models together to make fun creatures" made it sound like the contest was "attach stuff together" to me.

Well, the point is to make some sort of creature. Be creative. Use attachments. Use the Data Editor. Use the Trigger Editor. Use whatever you want, just be creative. It doesn't mean you have to use all of them, it just means you can.
I'm working on one (the sc2 editor is the 1st one that I'm spending lots of time doing stuff on so I'm just learning how to work the stuff) Proziac is helping me out and I think I have most of the stuff worked out.

My PC isn't great so I am sure it will look much better on your systems
It was a lot of fun putting these together, a lot of thanks to ProzaicMuse for his tutorial that got things going!
If anyone can think up a use for these units feel free to use/copy what you like.

@RileyStarcraft: Go
you don't have to use attachment points, try looking at the uberlisk tutorial. I'm using that method to make something (not Quite done yet though)
@ProzaicMuze: Go
Thx for helping me this stuff is kinda (really) confusing

Simple Question:
Are custom textures allowed?

is there a way to upload a map without everyone being able to see it when they click maps?
I'm sure if you spoke to Vjeux or Sixen they'd be willing to work something out :)
add it as an attachment to your post?
ddnt notice you could do that, thx
