Let's take the entire situation to the best possible outcome (from the map maker's side). The FF mod works as intended to completely, faithfully remake FF13, and becomes a resounding success, on the order of DotA. And it's made with the SC2 engine, which is property of Blizzard, who does not own the FF IP. Now there's a sizable chunk of the market that has purchased SC2 to play FF modded for it. Now Blizzard has indirectly allowed fans to use Blizzard's property (the engine and editor) with someone else's unlicensed IP, to sell more copies of Blizzard's games. Would you be mad if someone did this to you? Why buy a playstation and FF for $X when I can buy SC2 and download the mod for $60?
Yeah, it's about profit, but everyone who makes games of that quality are making them to sell. If this was a general use thing the company would publish under the GPL or some other free use/open source license.
Dude… IF its not commercial then you are fine!
This is for public use… Models have been made before in games.
“ You are not claiming this to make money. “ You are aloud to “give” a friend a CD.
Unfortunately this isn't true. That Chrono Trigger 3d fan remake I was talking about? they were non-profit as well and look what that got them. The only final fantasy fan made game currently in development, is a vintage style game called Final Fanatasy Zero. However they are only using the name, and all the characters are original.
Losing profit, because they didn't sell it themselves is a little weird... I guess the USA should really revamp their laws... But so long as big businesses continue to control the market, I doubt the government want to lose any profit...
The sum of all evil... I hate you.
For those who doesn't know, sum of all evil = money.
I didn't like it at first but now that i understand, i can't complain now. At the end of the day, the people that rage against blizz map policies are just ones that don't have good ideas. Like you said Aenigma, Original ideas open up so many more creative opportunities.
I never understood why so many people devote so much time into a tribute to an existing game. Spending countless hours on something and denying yourself the most enjoyable part of the process which is character design. I am currently working on a map and the most fun part of the whole thing so far has been coming up with all sorts of different characters.
alternatively you could always seek permission from square enix to create this non-profit tribute, I don't see why they wouldn't appreciate the advertising.
First of, Square Enix would never ask Vimeo to take down a fan based video of some look a like game.
I don't know who told you this that asked Vimeo but they just don't. All reports stay anonymous if not, Vimeo can be sued for such thing
Read their terms of service.
Second, its propably some scumbag that just hates SC2 and don't want the FF franchise to be remade in some free mod/map.
Why? as I said, they are just scumbags, people who think their act is of good will.
Third, as you said yourself, just give your map a random name, dont use any of the character names or spell names (except offcourse for common names).
As for the battle type, they don't have any copyrights on it. Thats also the reason why alot of rpg games have teh same battle system (whether it be turnbased or real time)

Coz, game is better than this copy ? Copy will be better in different way if it will include some different features.

They wont give a damn anyway, but if you're still scared just put their name in it.
