wow, very nice map.
you could have big chances winning that contest.^^
i also wanted to participate on the contest but had no good ideas until one week before 11. sep which was too late ... :-(
now im awaiting the next custom map contest. :D
Do you have any kind of official confirmation that publishing your map now (prior to judging) won't disqualify it?
I'm not posting any details just in case. But after seeing Progammer's video I suspect my chances of winning are slim. That, and the fact I only had 6 days to make my submission due to various real life happenings.
I wouldn't be so sure. I don't see what the point was in keeping it confidential while the submission period was still current if we can just unveil everything now.
Same goes for every other contest, such as the fan art contest. I am pretty sure all the contests said not to disclose any information until the winners have been announced, and just to be safe, I would not in case your map is disqualified for that reason.
Sadly, i couldn't enter my map, and i suspect it would be disqualified anyway. But it's basically an epic map where you can be a hero or a massive empire and hire heros, make alliances etc. It's mostly the data that still needs to be done :/
There was a little line saying that it isn't allowed to publish/show/... the map until the winners have been determined. It is not to be found under the rules. I think it said that in the final step before uploading the map.
I only have the german text: "Mit der Einsendung diese Karte gewähre ich Blizzard Entertainment die Lizenzrechte und veröffentliche, zeige oder teile diese Karte nicht vor der Verkündung der Gewinner am 22. Oktober 2010.*", which translates to something like:
"By sending in this map, i grant licencing right to Blizzard Entertainment and won't publish, show or share the map until the announcement of the winners on the 22. of october 2010."

With my tiny understanding of german, what he says is correct. That does indeed say that you can't post about it till the 22nd. Bad luck progammer :D
As far as I know, that line is for the movie/fan art contest and such. The exact same line for the map contest say after the deadline is over on Sep 11. Anyway, I just want to share it so ppl can play.
(winner announcement for this contest is Sept 25 btw)
Or it might be different for NA/EU submission page, but i submit it on NA anyway
I honestly don't see the logic in keeping the map confidential during the submission period but not before the winners are announced. What would have been the point in keeping it confidential in the first place?
I wasn't able to finish my map in time, though I submitted it anyways just so they'd see it. So, probably won't have to worry about how well your map does against mine.
Basically, it came down to me being too ambitious and trying to do too many things, and although I had all the values I had to enter written down and ready to go, it simply took too long to enter them all. I spent about 48 hours straight working on it up until the deadline, which I thought was 12:01am Sept 12th, not 12:01am Sept 11th. (Meaning I assumed we had the deadline day to finish up) So for all of you who didn't submit it before then, you're probably disqualified.
I'll be posting the opening cinematic once I'm done perfecting it, now that I have the time to make it look better. More details to come soon.

Same for me... my map required too many triggers to be finished in time and I sent an incomplete map that surely can't win :|
Let's see the next contest

Heh, yea for my triggers I never got my capture points working, but, that was an optional win condition, so I could have cut it from the release. The bigger problem was just the sheer number of custom units. I've got 48 special units, 15 heroes, 3 basic units, a base that morphs in to a flying base as an upgrade, 15 unit upgrades, etc etc.....
They were all gonna have custom names, buttons, spell animations, tooltips, hotkeys, help menu entries..... I got about 30% done entering all of the values which I've gotten all written down. I could have finished it had I not gone to school this week, but it was very likely I would get dropped from my classes if I skipped.
So, the map was playable, and players would be able to win using the primary objective, but there were only about 20 complete units in the game. The rest hadn't been renamed or given their abilities yet, though they had all their stats and were balanced against each other.
I just thought Blizzard might be impressed by all the effort that went in to making it, which is pretty obvious from the map editor.
Yay! Blizzard Custom Map Contest, post your submission here! The NDA is up since the contest is over.

So people don't copy or steal your idea?
So here a very quick, ugly and dirty video of my map (I really really didn't feel like spending tens of hours editing)
Map won't be released yet though, 10 minigames atm, I want 20 games, balanced, polished and working banked achievements before I do release it...
Here's mine:
