I think 2 min is too short. At least 3 or possibly 4. Someone should post a tut for those that might want to learn how to make some great cinematics. Are we allowed to use normal maps for the map terrain? I can't make terrain to save my life since I have no idea what I want.
2 minute so that everyone can participate and finish the submission in a short time, not taking the whole time of a project and took the fun out of it. The last cinematic contest was just 1 minute long.
Normal map ? Do you mean use blizzard map's terrain ? Or other existing map's terrain. Feel free to. Just credits and ask for permission if you took terrain from someone.
I'd like to propose a polite request to extend this contest by one week. My reasoning; personally I would love to enter this contest. However all time I have set aside for map making has been devoted to the Blizzard map contest.

I agree with him. If sc2mapster mainly wants to see what can be done with cinematic then they should wait till some map makers are done or just give more time. Most of the creative minds are probably working on the blizzard contest. Luckily for me I'm a beginner so I'm learning so this will help me out. Also it helps me since I'm still learning stuff so I'm going slightly slow.
^ That's a really cool use of sound clips and camera angles.
I think this video could be better, but all my attempts to improve it just make it worse so I'll cut my losses and submit it. I really struggled with the cameras in this map. They seemed all over the place and it's the first time I've had problems where the camera in the editor is just completely different than the camera in the game (editor camera is underground, game camera is fine; or editor camera is fine but game camera is too high/low/randomly flipped upside down because the transition time was 3 seconds instead of 6).
I just wanted to let you guys know the reason why my map is in multiple parts was because I never intended on having it as a single map but just a video file.
So what I did was have each scene a seperate map file just to make it easier for myself. I recorded each scene on its own then moved onto the next map. You will notice when you compare map #1 to map #10 there is more terrain being completed because i was doing it as i went along haha.
How uptight are they on these lengths? I can imagine them letting the last video slide, it's only 3 second over. But the 30 second one ya. I don't think they should let that slide, even those it's amazing.
Well... heres mine. Its very different from the other machinima´s here, but thats my definiton of "epic". Its probably not the best movie ive ever did, but its ok. The map will follow soon, im lazy right now(do yourself a favor it watch it in 720p):
Easy Peasy. Add a trigger fire on map start, add the action "show/ hide terrain", I think you can figure it out from there ;)
@ Crainy Not half bad. The first 28 seconds were a little too low/ blank. Also it feels as though it's going for a lot of emotional impact but we don't know why, some fast cutaways from the dark templar's face to some kind of event would show he's reflecting on something, but the fact that he's just standing there very close to all his buddies getting massacred throws the whole thing off.
Might work better if he were removed from the combat completely, maybe play the animation of him limping covering his arm as he reflects on the epic battle he narrowly survived.
I already thought about that problem that it wouldnt do so well because there is no backstory. Well, my machinima should actually somewhat resemble the fight between Kerrigan and those Protoss, that sacrificed their lives so Zeratul could escape (and how he watched helpless as they die).
The first 28 seconds were indented that way. But i will think about reworking it, adding more of a backstory. However, 2 minutes is really short..
Yeah I wondered how people got space to look good..

Edit: Did I heard someone yelling Star Wars ?
nevermind. A movie I was watching gave me a cooler fight idea.

Hi guys,
I didn't know this contest existed until a few minutes ago haha!
here is my first time trying to make a cinematic map using starcraft:

Is that even allowed??
Also, your video ist 34 seconds to long.
How uptight are they on these lengths? I can imagine them letting the last video slide, it's only 3 second over. But the 30 second one ya. I don't think they should let that slide, even those it's amazing.
Hi guys! Would it be possible for someone to record my map into a video and possibly give it some western or epic sounding music as well?
no space battles whats going on here =D
Is it still tomorrow? I need to start getting some work done.
It will be extended for a few days. Keep on working
Here is mine. The first version is contest submission due to it being the proper length. The second contains the mapster logo.
I am sad, there is lag :(

Now guess whats that inspired from.
Btw, some feedback would be nice.

"My version of epic typically involves finding how many explosions my computer can handle before it melts."
That's all your computer could handle? I want more explosions. Anyways....
Really nice. Too bad there aren't many space battle entries.
