So, I'm messing around with this idea of having a game of Stalker rugby. Two teams of two or four people each, each person has one stalker. The idea is to carry a beacon or something to the other team's goal to score. But don't get killed by the other team. Use blink and the sentry's force field to maneuver around enemies and carry the "ball" in.
I'm still relatively new at mapmaking, but I figured out how to add a score chart and how to add the force field ability to the Stalker, but I can't figure out how to change the cooldown of blink to something more appropriate to the game style or how to make a stalker pick up a sort of beacon. Probably XML related. Any tips or comments on this type of map?
Aha! I found it, and I figured out why it's not where it's supposed to be. Technically, the range on Blink is 500. That's so the player can click anywhere without getting an out of range error. The actual Blink is listed under Effects instead of Abilities (just search Blink). And it has a range of 8 that's easily visible in the data editor there.
Thank you for your response. However, I'm not concerned with the range of blink as much as I'm concerned with the cooldown. I would like to make it from 10 secs (or is it 15?) to, say, 5 seconds to make it a little more action packed. I also decreased the Stalker's attack range from either 5 or 6, to 2 to make the game a little bit more difficult for the defenders and increased the Stalker's speed.
Couple of questions also?
-Is it possible to change the size of the force fields?
-Is there a way to make a Stalker receive energy only after it scores a successful attack on a player?
-Any word on how to make a Stalker pick up some sort of object?
Leech should help you with the energy part. It should be under the Stalker unit settings.
I suggest that you don't have the Stalker actually pick it up and put it in an inventory. Maybe have a flying unit that is set to move with a trigger. That trigger is set to move with the Stalker currently in control of the ball. This would make transfer of the ball easier seeing as I'm pretty sure there are trigger conditions for what I have described.
Yeah, I see what you mean BrotherLaz. I could do SCV's, increase their speed, only give them 1 hp, but I still have to give them blink and force field abilities in order to make it interesting in trying to get to the goal or stop others from getting to their own goal.
I still need help finding where to change the cooldown for blink. I literally cannot find it and have searched for almost hours. Thanks for the interest guys.
I think I figured out how to modify the cooldown on Blink. It seems to be easier to figure out if you're in the list view. Go under the Abilities tab in the Data window, and search for 'Stalker - Blink'. Then look for a field called 'Cost - Cooldown - Time Use', and change this value from 10 to whatever you need...and hopefully that works. I'm just going off of what the tooltips are saying, but it makes sense.
As for picking up the ball, it might be easiest to do what ThisIsSpoofed suggested with the flying unit, or even attaching a ball to the stalker through triggers and attachment points. The stalker carrying the ball could have a hero glow underneath it as well to make it more obvious where the ball is.
I think there's a lot of really cool things that you can do with this map though. Keep it up!
Ha, I had this exact map in WC3 called "War Ball" which I am making for SC2. Funny thing is I am actually using Stalkers as the runner. If you have any ideas let me know! I am nearly done with it now, just putting some polish on it and some more purchasable units and stuff.

I wouldn't use stalkers; SCVs seem more appropriate. 'At outpost #23891 nothing exciting ever happens...'
