I've been working on this for a while so I figured i should share it.
I always loved the golem maps from sc1, I thought i would give one a shot.
There's nothing revolutionary, but here goes...
My ideas for this map include:
Unique terrain for each player (was the most fun i had working on this)
Player gets speed bonus when they're in their own terrain
Since golems are slower than regular units i thought this would make it harder to wreck someones base with golems
Regular spawns level up the more kills they get.
Regular spawns include ghost, marine and reaper.
Reapers are strong but fragile.
Ghosts have more defense and range, but do less damage.
Marines are all around ok.
Balancing was a bitch, they are all very different, but very balanced.
Good micro can win, not just mass since the unit spawn is slow.
Random buff spawns around the map give one of 3 (so far) buffs to group of units which include regenerate, adrenaline, and impenetrable wall.
Adrenaline increases movement and attack speed
Impenetrable wall increases defense but decreases movement speed (and makes a cool "look like a rock" effect i was proud of)
Regenerate, a-duhh
Healing tower for each player.
Golem part every 25 kills
Simple golem creation system
Dialog button creates golem from parts on beacons.
Golems spawn in middle of map
Tiers of golems, 1 tier for each part on a beacon
There's still a lot i have to do. I have to add voice actors to all the golems, create the rest of the golems, balance everything and much more.
But any feedback, recomendations or constructive critisism would be wonderful. I put up a small video and a few pictures of me testing it. What do you guys think? Any unit or golem piece on the map is purely for testing purposes.
I would loveeee some new ideas, i've been staring at it for so long i can't think of anything new
What about making other units to start off with. If im correct (which im probably not knowing my luck.) There were 3 golemmain types split into three subtypes or something. Since i only played the origional a couple of time, could you explain to me what each beacon means because that really confused me. (like the left one middle and right =S )
Your take on Golems is very interesting. I would not have expected for the terrain to be so diverse, but it seems to work.
My question for you is, what is the purpose of the Dark Shrine? Also, will you be able to switch between your spawning golem types during the game? The only thing that I find that differentiates too much from the SC1 version is that it looks as though you can only have 4 players.
The fighting area terrain too, I think, could be in more of an elliptical shape instead of a square one.
One final, minor complaint is the special golem button. In the SC1 map, you had to use timing to get certain golems that required 3+ civs, but with this button it takes that feature away.
Other than those complaints, I think overall it looks like you have spiced up Golems.

the terrain makes me not like it...
the simple open ground worked for the original.
