I just looked into the batte.net forum. Holy shit thats alot of submissions! Lets just hope a map worthy of beeing the prime display of the Arcade gets out on top of this.
Except for the 4th and 5th place. Those people just lose xD Makes me actually wonder if this community vote is a good idea. Imagine 4 very good maps making the top 5 and one slightly less so, but this one is well known and has a large player base. Hard to guess who wins.
I guess it'd come down to which one is more popular to get a chance for the first prize then :P At least the judges will be choosing the winners in the end, though.
The judges decide on the top 5, the community chooses top 3.
Other way around. Judges determine which maps meet requirments and host them and community rates them. Of the 5 maps that have the best rating judges pick the first, second, and third out of that small pool.
Since the second map file (the Tutorial) was included with the submission - does that mean I am also forbidden from uploading a newer version of the Tutorial to Battle.Net until the judging period ends?
I really hope they post the number of total votes each map receives. I think it would be a good showing to the mapmaking community of how many custom game players take an interest in our work.

I wish it was the other way around. That way, the judges could exclude maps that are old, but very popular and focus on newer, more original stuff. The community could then pick their favorites into the top 3 out of the 5 maps the judges selected. I think that might be a better way of handeling a contest that is supposed to show off the SC2 editor to the world.
Yeah, I was actually unpleasantly surprised when I learned that it works like this from hobbidude's comment. I wasn't a fan of the voting in the first place, but now I think that many good maps just won't stand a chance.
However, it still depends on how Blizzard handles the pre-selection.

Thanks for the forum presence- and for whoever included the Rogue Star demo in the arcade newsletter (it made my week).
Can we update Europe/Asia uploads of our maps- and have the NA version strictly for contest judging?

Herp derp. I should learn to read carefully. But what my point is still valid. The top 5 maps will probably be maps that are already popular.
We'll see. Personally I don't think I'll get past the judges though since my entry lacks the "WOW" factor.

Yes, thank you.

Guys Blizzard chooses the semi finalists, so essentially they pick the map pool that we the public can vote on.
