There have already been been three threads made now with people suggestion different things they wish the forums had, so so far, we all agree =D, however to make it easier to search through, from this point forward please post all suggestions for these forums in this thread, that way there are organized and in one area, thank you!
<u>Suggestions:</u>
- Make it so the live videos dont load automatically (make it a clickable JS before it loads)
- A way to follow a thread [ex: with email notification]
- Search with exact quotes [over all better search function]
- Better formating of names.
- An option to go to "advanced" edit, when you edit your post.
- When selecting a thread, either always show post #1, or make "last read post" work.
- Reply link should link to the post, and not the users profile.
- list of posts by a user in profile [and search for posts by user]
* A reputation system
- Option to be better notified when you get a PM [Send email option]
- The mentor system.
- Set bbcode as the default type
- Make the auto PM's sent to users when a thread is moved show the correct information.
- Add a new filter to the map search for "Number of players"
- When viewing as a guest then login in, return to the screen you were at, not your profile page
- Make locked threads locked [aka users can still post in them]
- RSS feed
- Have a Mail symbol next to name to immediately send a private message to that person.
- Make edit/update button work every time
- Possibly show number of thread views at the top of the thread, as you can currently only see views if you see the thread from the outside
( - = Something most think is needed, * = Could go both ways)
ugg me to... though I just click the numbers now =P ill add it. The feature is suppose to show you "the last undread post" which IS a good idea... problem is... dosnt wrk =P
A way to follow a thread [with email notification]
way not do it this way, this way people don't get spammed updates
maybe do it how moddb does, it have a little button next to pms called, watched threads, so you just login and u can see if you got any updates on that topic
better then getting your emailed spamed with updates
(sigh moddb has both they should take the email one away)
i put this is the watched topic as well as you made this afta i posted it there xD
thats fine, thats why I made this thread, to try to get them all in one place. Most people like email.. having to come to the site to see if you got a reply kinda kills the whole point for a lot of people lol. and yu dont get spammed, you get 1 email saying theres been a new post/s and wont get another till you post again.. is how most places do it so you dont get spammed.
When replying to someone, the message's link containing the name of the person who's post their replying to should link back to the post, not the person's profile.
The concept still stands that there should an ability to full edit without resorting to copying and pasting links, if part of a forum's functionality needs a user to do such things then it has failed as a user interface. At least in my opinion.
I have a suggestion. Many forums have a feature where if you look in their profile, you'll see what I have attached here. This is my profile at GU. In red, I have circled my suggestions: the ability to see the most recent post of the user (which links directly to it), and the last posts of that user, which show a table of the posts (minus the avatar, sig, etc), leading from the most recent to the least recent (as shown in the second image).
This is what I'd love to have implemented in this forum.
Suggestion: Split General Map Development into two forums
Currently most newbie mappers simple go there to ask questions, some are so trivial as how to select a doodads. More difficult questions are quickly dropped to the 2nd / 3rd page.
How about break it to two parts: Basic Map Development and Advanced Map Development? In this setting, simple questions can still be answered quickly in Basic forum, while difficult questions can stay longer in the Advanced forum.
Another suggestion: I would like to see a shortcut button to show all the threads I posted / replied in descending order of the time of last replied post. Currently I need to use the search function and search my name. The search result also does not list in descending order of the time of last replied post even after pressing the "Last Post". (Not sure if this is a bug.)
The forum is already split,'people just can't read. There is one for triggers , data, terrain, and then general for what's let... People just post there cause they can't for the life of them read. (maybe calling that forum "misc dev"

Hive, and some other forums as well maybe, have a reputation system or something like that. Basically, for those who don't know, there's a little button under the avatar or somewhere there (like the post count, maps and teams currently) and if a person helped someone, that person that needed the help should click the button to add 1 reputation point to the guy who helped. Those reputation points accumulate, and somewhere under your avatar, or name, or whatever, there will be a kind of visual representation of your reputation (a number of stars, circles, some shiny stuff, banelings, whatever) and when you mouse over those, you see the exact points.
This will allow people to show off how much they help ;)
You could also add reputation for maps made (if someone made a good map, and someone checks it and likes it, he clicks that button again)
Also, better to have people to write down a reason for the +rep when clicking the button, and the mods going over it sometime (to prevent someone from just spamming reputation on someone else), and maybe make a limit like +1 rep /24 or 48 hours per person giving rep (so that the same person can't give +5 billion rep by spamming that button)
This would probably be hard to implement, so take your time if you're going to do it ;)
And yea, i want that "posts by me" as fast as possible... I've posted in so many topics about some simple questions and can't remember the topic names to see whether i helped the guys or they are utterly confused :(
Same for the "follow topic" option.

Some way to track threads, be it through email notification or just an in-page listing of them somewhere.
A way to use the search with ""s to include a string rather then just individual words you are looking for.
The same interface when going back to edit a post as there is when you originally make one.
ED: Oh and for this theme of the site to resize the name field in posts rather then cut them off its too long. ;)
You mean like this
@Molsterr: Go
Exactly, awesome now just replace the current edit button's link with that one and we're in business.
@BumpInTheNight:
I dont know about replacing =P i like the quick edit a lot hehe, but an option to go to advanced mode for sure.
Having both would be completely agreeable as well :)
Oh right, when I click on a thread I've never read before I'd prefer to be put at the top of it rather then the last post.

what about if you watch i don't know 4 topics at one time and they all get updated at the same time as they may do xD
@KiwiWarrior:
then your informed as such... its only spam if you dont want it... =P

Its the exact same link. However if you click it there, it will open quick edit. Just copy the link address, open new tab, paste

No we agree with you =P just showing you how to do it till then ^_~
Doh man bad and apologies Programmer, thought you were suggesting that we all do that instead of just fix the forum software.
