Is that normal, that my map is loading around 1 minute? Selecting anything in data editor almost always freezes for at least around 2s, and sometimes (for example in command card) for over 10s. Thats annoying.
I have quite new computer: i5-3350p, 7870xt, 4gb ram, win 8.1 64bit, so i dont believe, this can be the case.
Maybe thats because i have 36mb of data imported to the file or many custom elements in data editor?
Any ideas?
One issue sometimes is that people have their preferences on ultra in terrain, and that slows the computer down. Try putting these lower.
My brother had an issue with general latency on his computer because his resolution was set too high on his new computer, thus slowing the new computer down, this could be your issue as well. Also, I know that my laptop slows down allot when it is not plugged in.
In general however, it can be a little slow in the data editor, but you are correct to assume that it should not freeze for 10 seconds.
Go into preferences in the editor, under file.
go into video, set them all to low.
When you are working in the data editor; change your layer to terrain or regions or something that is not units.
If you have a lot of units on the map; hide the unit layer unless you actively use it.
Do not work with the overview manager open.
When you have many items in the data editor linked; they will always lag when you click them, because it shows links for everything linked to everything in the side box. You can hide the object explorer to get rid of this; but, well.., The object explorer is super handy.
RAM appears to be your weakness. windows requires 1 GB for itself; leaving you with 3. With many units on screen at a high res; it will quickly gobble up your RAM. Doodads as well.. foliage. I have 32GB of DDR3 1800 RAM; and when i fill a map with the most dense foliage possible; i lag like windows 95!
Thanks for your help! Reducing video setting and changing the layer not to units didnt make any change, however i discovered, that its freezing that hard on units which have a lot of linked stuff together(100). Hiding the object explorer totally removed freezing.
Yes! That's a trick I had to learn the hard way, was to always have something typed in the search bar, or you will have to wait a few moments for the editor to respond as it grabs EVERYTHING and then starts to filter haha

That is indeed a really low amount of RAM and is undoubtedly causing your system quite some strain.
RAM sticks are pretty cheap. Shouldn't cost much to upgrade to at least 8gb.

I've also had problems with the lag in the data editor. Hiding the object explorer did the trick. thanks.
I'd like to add that -always- keeping something written in the search bar will help this issue, too.
