I know that ever since my map has hit first page i have wished for nothing else then for it to be just a tad lower. The amount of douche bags and rage quitters is unreal and its ruining peoples experience and i have to pretty much just sit by and watch....
Oh im sorry i thought it was common knowledge that the "community" playing the games lower on the list were alot more mature... atleast thats what myself and everyone i know have noticed lol. When you hit the top of the list you get the people that refuse to scroll down, god forbid they have to look and ive noticed alot more troll types in upper page games.... i guess myself and the people i know must be hallucinating.
Having played games online for a very very long time, the online crowd has changed a bit in attitude, I don't know if this has to do with high or low popularity, it could be. But just look at world of warcraft for example, I used to play that and had alot of fun till all of a sudden a ton of douche bags started appearing on the game after holidays. It might just be the behavior of a new stream of gamers. I know my younger brother is annoying as hell just like those guys, though not rude. It's just something I have noticed myself and probably goes beyond just the popularity but gaming in general and the way many new games are all directed as 'casual things'. It's hard to really express it in proper words I suppose. There have always been alot of people like that, and perhaps I simply never noticed them as much before because I was younger myself aswell. But it's just that I feel, alot of gamers have turned into leet speaking 'call the other guy noobs' people.

No, you're suffering from confirmation bias. The concern of a lot of people within 'the community' have right now is that it is too hard to get a good map popular, as the popularity system works to enforce a 'rich get richer' syndrome. Not necissarily that 'everyone who plays popular maps is an idiot'. You're going to notice idiots more, as there are more people who globally play popular maps, but no, it's not exactly 'common knowledge'. Maybe you like to think it is, but it isn't.
And even if your map is relatively attracting more douchebags and ragequitters than other maps, it's a pretty big jump to immediately conclude this must be because it's high on popularity.
This is a bit of irony you must admit. The OP used to whine about his maps not being popular on BNET despite having a following on various sites. Now that he has succeeded in creating something popular...he wishes it wasn't.
lol, bounty. People ragequit because they are unlucky, and get bored of doing the same thing over and over.
People rat out other people because it is slightly more fun to watch people run than to watch the seekers seek.
Like I said, now Island Defense shares this model, you might try adding an "elect to seeker" option at the beginning, to where the people who WANT to be seeker have the OPPORTUNITY to be seeker.
As for people ratting other people, it is just hilariuos lol :)

I wasnt whining about my maps not being popular, i was pissed off that Haunted Temple never came back after a pop list reset. I was quite happy with 4-600 games per hour. The community was fantastic and were all very supportive and friendly because they were mostly true fans of the map itself.
Meh it feels pretty good when you're there... but you're right... I did get a lot of "this map is gay" comments haha... but the good comments always outweigh the bad ones :D

What saddens me most of all is how these forums went from a good source of map making discussion to a source of entertainment.
Agreed. Some of the threads being created these days are utterly ridiculous. Too many people end up fighting/arguing over silly things.

And the amount of douche bags and rage quitters will be less if your map is lower on popularity because... ?

To answer the question posed in your thread title:
Yes.
Oh psychology. To the question. Yes.

something tiny broke inside me when I saw my map has left the first page on the US server...
But I do know why this is and I can't wait to come back :)

If your map is on the last page I guarantee you there won't be a single douche in your game ever!

Well you can't say that... Someone might be picking random games. Never say never mr

I think he was referring to the planetary boss series and capture the flag game you yanked off the list after blasting the community.

Or for that matter, anyone.....
I yanked them because nobody played them and those map file sizes were about 5-9MB each.
To be fair though, that seems to be a thing of General Chat. The other boards are still pretty productive.
