What I would like, and I think a lot of people could use as well, is a simple square model with a simple texture like the concrete foundations in the picture above. These are really useful for showing the player how your buildings create paths. If anyone would be interested in whipping something like this up for me, I would be really, really grateful.
I might recommend using the textures that are already in SC2, such as the Small Bricks or various Ruins textures. They would form a good base texture, at least.
Im pretty sure you could use a "splat" actor on the ground for this when the building is build / created. Then you could set the scale for the actor to get the correct size you want.
It might be possible to add an actor to the actual footprint that the building uses as well.

Yeah, but what model/texture does the splat actor have? I was trying to do that already but was failing miserably. Do you have any idea on how to make a splat actor that looks appropriate?
It's probably not exactly what you're looking for, but the Installation Roof doodad uses a model that should be pretty close to what you want. By default these are raised a bit over the ground, not really sure if you can change that just by modifying the actor / model, but it's worth giving it a shot.
Interesting. Do you know if there is an easy way to retexture it? For instance, could I tell it to use the Bel_Shir_Bricks_Small.dds instead, and have a little tile of brick to play around with?
Thanks for finding a nice square tile though. That could be helpful.
I can't seem to get this to work. I attach this model to a splat actor and it doesn't appear. But if I attach it to a regular unit actor it appears. What gives?

Thats because splat models are a special kind of model..... Not sure if theres a property on the model data or splat model that will fix this or not.

So did you want a special pedestal model? A model that was a bunch of rubble-ey looking concrete bricks stacked together as a foundation for a building as pictured above? Or did you just want a repeating concrete brick 'texture' that you can paint on terrain?
I honestly depends on what he wants, If he just wants a flat foundation, or a patch of rubble, a simple model with normal maps and textures could be made.
But to make a quick model on it, he really needs to provide a more detailed description in regards to what he exactly wants made. The description above about buildings show paths just kind of throws me off.
The Stickied thread states most of this as the following:
When requesting 3D assets
Include the target polycount, texture size, color scheme and style of the model
Include as many reference pictures as possible. General idea, shilouettes, detail pieces, materials etc.
Try to describe the asset in as much detail as you can
What did you need for your map? I didn't see a description O_O Each map is probably different which means your map may have different needs so describe away ;-)
Did you manage to get this working? I've been breaking my head over this but am unable to get it to work. I am able to add splat effects to the unit but so far found only two that works but resembles absolutely nothing to a square...

Yes make a custom splat actor that uses that roof model.... Its actually in the roofs actor that its height is raised off the map.

Any solution to this? (maybe with some screenshots of the data editor) Like to have such an effect, too. ;)

In my case I would say, each of these could be a solution. Just depends how it looks, don't know.

I was mostly referring to the OP

Well, therefore I wrote "in my case" ... and besides it sounded that you know a solution to this, so why won't you tell us? ;)
Oh! Sorry about the vagueness >_<

Well, I basically need something that Riley did in his The Sorcerer's Defense map.
The picture is a bit small, but you might guess it (or maybe you played it already) http://static.sc2mapster.com/content/attachments/8/695/Setup.png
So it is just a nice texture or something that is placed under the tower (2x2 ground).
