Update:
I managed to compress the texture files quite well without a visible loss of quality, so they now have an acceptable filesize for importing. They are not completely finished yet (Mercenary version needs a bit of work), but if anyone wants to have them already because he neither needs the Firebat, nor the mercenary edition, I can send them to him.
Other than that, I started working on creating an own model file for it and, of course, on finishing the mercenary version. When that and some fine tuning is done, I'll release the model.

Hey guys,
I decided to learn a bit about SC2 modding and started with something simple: A reskin.
Later I will copy and adapt the model to use the skin, so you can use both models in one map.
It is neither finished, nor is it something special... mostly recolors, some change to emblems and other minor details. Just thought some people might find this interesting.
When it came to frying Zerg units, the Firebat was always the weapon of coice.
But the Tal'darim started getting meaner and meaner - Jimmy can't even borrow some Terrazine or cool relics from them!
So Stetman and Swann worked a bit and out came...
The Thunderhawk!
Firing with pure electrical energy, the Thunderhawk not only damages enemy units, but deals bonus damage to psionic units, reduces their shields quicker than other units and even drains a bit of their energy with every attack. Let the Tal'darim despair in their fight against this newest invention of Terran engineering!
[at least that's what I'll try to do in the editor. Did not create a single ability/custom unit yet, this whole project is for personal training]
As I said, the skin is not yet completed (there are still some parts more fitting for fiery attacks). Still, I'd be glad about any constructive criticism.

) a bit older and I called the unit Thunderhawk before. But I decided that Thunder Trooper sounds more fitting than some pseudo-cool copy of Firebat.
Also, this screenshot has been taken directly from the editor, so the emissive texture looks a tad worse.
Well, some people told me to create an ice version. But that sounds a bit unrealistic to me.
Weapons using fire are okay, electricity is technically a bit less realistic. But ice is even worse considering realism, unless it is some kind of marauder with the possibility to shoot a freezing blast :D
And well, using water as a weapon... nah ^^
So, I will not create another "elemental" unit like this one (though I could think of an electricity-version of the hellion).
actually ice isn’t so bad imagine a firebat except instead of tanks filled with fuel and a pilot light. It’s tanks filled with liquid nitrogen. and the armor is coated in some sci fi anti-freeze to stop it clogging up his systems :D
Ice version is all good :P
water version not so much >.> Unless it’s like a civilian fire fighter type thing going on.
You've never seen pokemon have you.... Anyways, we'll be waiting for your next awesome release. Try to not do electricity again, surprise us. If you're looking for "realistic" science- "fiction" maybe a pulse weapon. You know, all those tv shows where incapacitated fly 20 meters after being hit with these pulse weapons? Minority Report has one I think.
Well, I am thinking about it (also about ice).
Before my next "awesome release", I have to finish my next exam. Then I am planning to go a step ahead, which means I'll try compressing the graphics so it is actually practical to use them ingame, as well as trying to duplicate the Firebat model to use the texture so you can use Firebat and Thunder Trooper simultaneously.
And by then I'll hopefully have some new ideas :-)
A liquid nitrogen trooper would be awesome. Frostbite damage and slow to biological, freeze and armor reduction to mechanical, slowed building speed for structures.
And I don't see what's so bad about a water trooper :/
Pressurized water can cut through armor. We already have Water Jet Cutters.
What about a combo weapon with water? Like water that sprays out and an electrical current or ball is shot out to the puddle for area damage. Also, I know some have said no more electrical, but you could do electrical tentacles like Iron Man 2.
But high powered water is powerful IRL. They cut stone with water under very high pressure, so it is possible to slice 'n dice with water.

Could also do a "Hydralisk" attack from a FIrebat/Marauder combat suit that shoots needles/spears. Or even bigger blades, hatchet/axe/ninja shuriken's? :D Just some ideas.
Man, the ideas in this thread are awesome!
I wish Blizzard would reaf this and decide to use some for the expansion :P
The FireBat, the ThunderHawk, whats next the IcePenguin? LOL XD

Look good. This is remodeled model ? Or just re-skinned ?
Can you post pictures of both models so we can compare ?
@tigerija: Go
It's just a reskin.
Yeah, but I am planning to make it a model so you can use the Firebat and this one simultaneously.
I wouldnt be able to do that so thumbs up :D reminds me of tesla troopers
Yeah Marrauder = reskinned Firebat also (or u can say the other way round)
So good job :)
Close, but not quite... the Marauder and Firebat have different models, but the Firebat model was based on the Marauder Model (or other way around)
Also, AWESOME RESKIN! :)
That's pretty awesome. Maybe a waterman next?

scissors for "cut"ting.
I wish i knew how to do this :\
Hey nice idea ! I like this Thunderhawk-Trooper. Keep working on it, i´ll stay tuned for more news.
@Yaos01: GoSettings ingame are highest quality.
Is there a way to improve editor's quality? I am too lazy to apply some camera object.
