Multitasking Trainer
Multitasking Trainer v0.94
This is a map based on the Hotkey Trainer map for bw. It is a great way to practice and improve your multitasking APM and Hotkey usage.
Huge changes have been made with v0.9! check the files page for the changelog.
Concept
You need to manage your base, defend incoming attacks, keep your minerals low, rescue a neutral unit and defeat your opponent all while microing a probe that is constantly being chased by a zergling.
Features
The player has the ability to select his desired race at the beginning of the map as well as choose from five different difficulty settings or create the custom settings that are better suited to his needs. The map is now fully customizable! Also, as of v0.94 "Coach Mode" has been added. This feature displays an alert when you are not making workers as Protoss or Terran or when you have idle larve and Creep Tumors as Zerg. It is indended to further help people improve their multitasking and macro.

This is the first map I have ever made so all comments, suggestions, bug reports etc will be greatly appreciated :)
Could someone explain how the "macro mechanical energy" works? I swear I would have beat normal so many times if it were not for that dreaded red text.
I keep getting an "Unable to open map" error when trying to launch using MapCraft on Mac OSX anyone know how to fix this?
By the mighty gods of heyZoose!!
I was able to beat hard with nukes (on the previous release), now going back to Normal, its extremely hard to even penetrate Terrans base, especially with minerals running out!!
I basically rushed all my scv's in AND then followed up with mauraders with medivacs but failed misreably, any tips?? Or am I assuming the only way to defeat this is tank leap micro? My units get demolished by the seige tanks.
nice challenging map
Good idea, thanks but I just tried was making sure I was injecting with just one queen but still the same result so I it might be because I have too many larvae stacked up. I'll try again and see...
No, scrap that idea..
norpoblems: i think you had too much energy on the Queen(s)
What does 'Defeat: Macro mechanic energery exceeded limit' mean? I am playing on Very Easy and it isn't in the goal checklist. I don't understand how you can beat this trainer without trying to macro heavy. I was trying to tech straight to brood lords: )
Wanna play
This is a great map. I like the tweaks you made to the probe/ling. It really keeps you on your toes. I am really struggling to hold off the first wave, which I guess proves that I should be using this trainer XD
i would love something about constantly making probes, its my huge problem atm...perheps if you aint making probe for 10sec, youre done or something
Thanks dukaluke but MapCraft doesn't seem to be able to launch this map either. I keep getting a 'Unable to open map.' message.
Thanks for the new release and cheers for the tip stettcl.
@noproblems You can use MapCraft to launch this map on a mac. http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/mapcraft/pages/main/
@ noproblems:
I am also hoping we can still be able to use this when the beta is down.
stettcl: FYI the drag drop launch doesn't work with the Mac OSX version of StarCraft. Is there a way of getting around that? I am willing to be at hand for testing if you want to support this OS.
I hope so as well. Unfortunately, none of these issues are up to me. As far as I am aware of, there is nothing I can do to make the map playable on Mac, it's all up to Blizz :) I have published v0.92 (v0.93 coming soon) on B.net EU however so if you have a European client you can play it on line.
I need some more tips on how to keep my probe alive. I realise the probe loses speed as it turns to go to a new location and that is the opportunity for the ling to get a take a swipe at it. So I have tried to reduce the amount of waypoints and tried to keep it all linear as possible. Are there any obvious tricks I am missing?
A basic tip you may have missed is that you should try to make the probe take turns as smoothly as possible. This means instead of ordering it to turn 90 degrees straight away, you should instead give five or six consecutive move commands at increasing angles so that the ling won't be able to catch up. This doesn't have to take much of your time, you can do it within a second or so.
Also, ideally you don't want to use any way points at all, you'll probably get hit each time you use one. If you do have to use some at first, try to focus your attention on the probe immediately afterwards so it has time to replenish its shields.
If you want post or pm me with more specific problems and I will be more than happy to help!
This is really excellent, thanks so much!

Here's a couple of more general tips for new players to increase their effective APM and Multitasking:
Generally, when we are new to the game we tend to sit and look at our base a whole lot of time while there are not that many things that need to be done, or they can be done from a distance.
So don't do cheesy or funky builds, these will never help you improve and don't get frustrated if you loose to them. Just worry about improving and winning will come naturally!
So, before you start the map, decide on your build order. Don't make it something funky, you can beat this map with pure tier 1/1,5 units even on hard.
Then start the map and try to always look at the probe, going back just for a second each time to build your buildings. Build your units via hotkeys while microing the probe.
Don't worry about beating the map at first, just make stuff non stop without looking :P Winning will come very soon.
Sorry for the wall o'text, I hope this helps :)
@ dukaluke: Thank you for pointing that out! It's because I wanted it to load the energy setting for the race chosen by the payer, except I forgot that this only applies to preset difficulty settings.
I'll be fixing this in the next version.
@ bb82:
1) Yes, drag it onto the exe or launch it from the editor.
2) When the servers are down for a new patch, yes you can play. When they close the beta at the end of the month, I can only hope :)
3) Yup it's called spamming to keep your fingers warm. It's usually along the lines of: select workers->select main building->set rally->repeat. You can go to teamliquid.net and watch some of the many good players that are streaming their games in first person view!
4) Yea, unfortunately in very easy you can give it quite a lot of waypoints. I would say try not to give it more than one or two though.
5) Yes, there is a big debate about this, many people have asked but i find it rather hard to balance the map with an expo. I'm trying to find a way to make this work. 8) Use pinky on ctrl/shilft and index finger for number. Having a good keyboard hand is extremely important so don't go easy on yourself! Try to do things correctly even if you find it hard and I guarantee it will become second nature after a while.
Also read the post above for some beginner's tips. Keep trying hard and you will improve in no time!
FIrst, thanks for making this great tool. It looks like there's a minor bug in version .92. When you load a saved configuration the max macro mechanic energy is set to 0 regardless of what you actually saved it as. Other than that this map is great!
Wow. Thank you so much. I am a complete noob, but I am good at tactical/strategy thinking. I just can't show that unless I can increase my APM in a constructive way. Honestly, I just wish there was a competitive league that was on a much slower speed, for the less hard-core. Then APM would matter much less and I could actually enjoy what the game had to offer.
Please, anyone, if you know of any tools/software/maps/etc that will help me increase my APM in a constructive way, let me know.
As for this map, it seems great and I hope you keep improving it. I have a couple questions and suggestions.
1)The only way to play it is to actually drag the map onto the beta.exe file, correct? Or can I go to custom games to play it? Or how exactly am I supposed to launch the map? I'm a noob, remember..
2)When beta is shutdown, can we still use this map? I need some way to improve my APM while the beta is gone..
3)I notice "pros" have very high APMs, even at the beginning of the game. What are they doing? Are they doing some sort of exercise to keep them sharp? If so, what is it?
4)The PROBE, holy cow.. It's giving me problems. I can still set it for many waypoints. What is the most that I should be using?
5)A place to try to expand would be nice.
6)The more this becomes like a simulation of a game, from start to finish, the better. But it is a great work in progress.
7)Maybe more explicit instructions and tips/tutorials on how to do better. With an emphasis on APM/constructive-multi-tasking.
8)When you use control or shit to make/add-to a group, should you be using the hand that is on the mouse to help with ctrl and shift? Or do you use your hand that is on asdf? Should you be able to do this without looking away from the screen?
Thanks again. Your map gives me hope that I will one day be better.
