Starcraft 2 Data manager by MaskedPoptart
Tired of duplicating data, forgetting to link all your duplicated stuff together or having actor fields improperly renamed?
There's an app for that now... and it's called the Starcraft 2 Data Manager (SC2DM). It allows you to make Templates for XML data, so that the only thing you have to do to create a Hero, for example, is tell the program what stat points that hero needs to have. In fact, you can see me doing just that in my video.
The Starcraft 2 Data Manager:
- significantly decreases map development time
- decreases the amount of errors
- most importantly, allows mappers to create complex abilities/units/items without needing to understand how they actually work.

My anxiety for this is having to learn how to work another program (your data manager) when I already know how to (sort of) use the editor as it is. I suggest getting this program if you are just starting out, so you learn this program isntead of the editor. MAybe I'm wrong?
This is actually really nice! I thought about doing something like this myself, but never got up the energy to do it. This will save me a lot of time down the road when trying to implement simple balance changes. Thanks so very much for this tool.
Hey dudes, I apologize for my disorganization. All the information you want can be found on the asset page (http:www.sc2mapster.com/assets/starcraft-2-data-manager/). This post was just meant to be a teaser, to get you to read the rest of the info only if you're interested. I'll see if I can get one of the moderators to make it more obvious that the rest of the info is on the asset page.
@OneTwoSC: You can see me making a template in the asset page.
@zenx1: Please check out the asset page for more info. You can do a lot of shit with Templates. I thought putting the hero demo and the template demo in one video would make too long of a video and would scare people off.
@Nardival: Yes, you can pretty much do all that. The only problem is that Templates need to have XML data in order to work. At the moment, I don't know a way to access the XML data for the original SC2 objects (i.e. Marauder, Zergling) without first duplicating these objects using the editor.
@BlueTopaz9: :P
Nice! Great job MPT! Looking forward to using this and more projects from you :)
About time...
How scalable is it? Ie: Can I create a list of units, with all their stats and linked objects filled in? Same for Weapons, setting cooldown, number of attacks and linked effects?
Can a later iteration physically create all the data objects? As in, the above video you created the unit and actor and then gave the existing units attributes, inventories and hero status?
For a featured news item it doesn't give us very much information.
Edit: just browsed the project page ^_^
Yea it seems interesting. I would like to know what you can do with it? Surely that aint the only thing -_-...Iv always wanted something to speed up the process of creating units and items and such, but Im not totally sure if this is exactly the thing im looking for...
Cool stuff... I notice the video didn't show you making the template itself though?
