Doesnt sound like a too difficult project, would be interested to help you with that. I'm pretty experienced with the trigger editor, guess I could cover that part. Send me a PM if you want.
Nice idea, I used to create a similar map, too (but unfortunately it died at a very early stage)
Here some ideas/thoughts for your map:
Will you make a real (Coop) RPG or will it be different?
Should it be an RPG where you progress very slowly (expanding the time you can spend in this map) or will you be able to play through it in one session?
Will you implement a leveling system?
If yes, will it have a skilltree?
If no, what other ways do you have for player progression?
Do you plan on having items?
How do you want to do them (by Data-Editor or create a Trigger System)?
Will there be crafting?
Are you fighting against other creatures or will you fight against Terran/Protoss/Zerg?
Are there bosses?
Will there be a story or is it just "play for fun"?
Although I didnt give you much input on what exactly I would like to have in your map (because I fear I would just talk about the plans I had with my map rather than making up my mind for new ideas), this list should help you doing some basic decisions. Hope you can use it.
You just overused the "isDrone" validator a bit, it doesnt need to be on the search validator (since the search-validator's source is the scantipede and the validator then checks if the scantipede is a drone)
I also changed the target-filter of the search effect so it only kills enemy drones, you may change that once you overworked your movement-system
I got some time recently and could therefore help you with the UI and other things achieveable with the trigger editor. Just send me a pm if you want :)
Played it some times, gotta admit that this really is an unique idea (for the arcade at least) and should therefore definitely be developed further ^^
It would be cool to have some kind of stats at the end of the game (kills per minute, letters per second etc.) and some kind of leveling/progressing/reward-system, which would make this much more replayable (maybe some skins or anything else to unlock). I like the idea with power-ups, you really should implement those. Maybe you could also add some kind of "boss waves"? Would definitely spice this map up a bit :D
What you are describing seems to be the "Simple Command Card". If you want to change it only on your own Account, go to Options->Gameplay->Enable Simple Command Card and untick the box next to it.
If you want to do it for everyone playing a map, you should use the action "Override Player Option" and set up the Values like this: Override [Enable Simple Command Card] option for [(your desired player)] to [Disabled]

Just send a copy of your map (or just an extract where the work you've done is in) so I or anyone else can help you better

If you remove it I would persume that it will go down to the value of Core.Sc2Mod, otherwise you could just test it out by making a savecopy.

This *should* lead to the right model/texture. No idea how you can download it though.
