So I have begun working with this project again. We talked a little bit about it in irc.
So as you might guess this project is thinly based on Grand Teft Auto. There wont be any automobiles tough. Main objective is to cause massive amount of havoc and just have fun playing.
I still havent gotten too many ideas to implement to this map, so if you have any pls share them.
The gameplay so far consists of civilians who wander around the town and panic if someone dies near them. Police will chace you if you get high enough criminal level. Higher criminal level means police will put more resources in order to stop you!
Im also planning on adding several different weapons and skills, but I think there should still be something else to do than mindlesly kill units...
fixed the system? I dont believe untill I see it. For example if the like/dont like section is going to be all 1st page maps (marine arena/nexus wars etc...) nothing has changed. If the game is complex most people will just hit DONT LIKE and leave, resulting all new maps going to bottom again.
somehow I do not see the system being finished/ready. As I said before, its probly improvement, but I do not believe its even close to perfection...
Im still waiting for match making for custom maps. It could be something like, when you click the main map it opens sub menu which has map gategory for high, mid, low skill players. The map maker could choose to use or not to use this feature and they could determine the limits of high/mid/low -skill level required for joining the map (trough banks, not perfect, but nothing seems to be nowadays).
Optimal would be if the players could name the maps, but I do not see that happening in sc2
It was fun. I would like to see more new maps, so if there are some silent map makers they should join map night.
Hopefully we will see map night again sometime (doesnt have to be weekly).
edit* and as for the gates of darkness, I guess it needs quite a bit of work. I didnt like the lighting, hero skills didnt seem to work/be balanced (atleast with my thor). And maybe add some variety to it, it was pretty much same monster all the time (alltough thats what hero sieges are most of the time). It would be nice to have a bit more challenge (dunno if we were playing on easy or what). and fix the lagg in the end.
Interesting changes. I cannot really tell if its good or not (probly better than previous system atleast).
I dont think theres need to have "join random map" or stuff like that. If there was only like 5 most played maps on their own page, rest of the maps would rotate, you could search and favourite your maps, it would be better imo....
1. rotating maps (possibly similar system to the previous volatile system)
2. favourite and search functions (and favourite gategory)
3. able to get score of your games to game lobby or to get bank data to game lobby (for each player)
4. Duplicating stuff can copy ALL the neccecarry stuff. Sometimes you have to go to different tabs to copy all the stuff seperately (like duplicating infestors infested terrans ability)
5. leaving allowed in countdown, if player leaves countdown stops
6. option to open multiple data editor windows (since you need to cycle between tabs too much, I would prefer seperate windown option)
I also ranked the suggestions 1 being the most important and 5 being the least important. I think I had more ideas but forgot them :(...so this is all for now
just realized its not about popularity, but oh well...
I think blizzard fails so hard with the data editor. More features (sc2 editor) < Fast yet still you can do shit load of stuff (wc3 editor).
Some abilities would take like 5mins to make in wc3 and it takes 30mins to do it in sc2 and it still might not be perfect. Especially the movers are bullshit, extremely hard to use (so many fields) and the results are somewhat lacking most of the time, since you might need to make 5 movers for some abilities to work on different ranges.
but of cource it doesnt have to be this way. I personally do pretty much everything with triggers, if its not possible with them maybe its better not to do it :/.
I still miss my wc3 editor...*cries*
(I probly went off topic, but felt like writing something somewhere) :(
