For the second one it may be confusing. It should be something like WeaponStart.UltraliskRange.AttackStart (Msg Type.Source Name.Sub Name)
My guess is that since your Spine Crawlers are not burrowing to fully "attach" to the Uberlisk is that when they teleport away from it to attack it is triggering the ActorOrphan Event which causes them to Destroy themselves. If you fix the burrowing issue and they still exploded you can either share the map with me and I can try to fix it or you can download my UberliskTest map and look that over to compare youself. (Map was attached to a previous post of mine above).
One of my spine crawlers is missing! It is the one labeled number 7 if I am correct. I've checked, but I'm not sure what's wrong. I don't have enough time to check everything though :(.
Following the guide I was able to attach the spinecrawlers perfectly but my problem is they dont extend to attack or show nothing but a little jiggle when attacking. I've used both your guide and map for references but I cant see any difference that would have this happen. I read in one of your earlier posts that the problem was with a certain LMWeapon event, mind telling me which it was, so I can see if that one is wrong.
Number 7 (SOpAttachTarget7) should be appearing on the upper right portion of the Uberlisk's head as you look at it from behind. Make sure on your SOpAttachTarget7 Actor that you changed the Target Index value to 7 and of course for that tentacles UberliskSpineCrawlerTentacle Actor make sure you typed in your SOpAttachTarget(# here) command in correctly in the Host Attachment + field (needs to be spelled exactly as the command is).
This was an issue I had for awhile when I first made my Uberlisk. I thought I had followed hati's XML guide to a '"t" when I was transposing it to the Data Editor but after going over it in further depth my issue was on my UberliskRangeAttackMissile Actors (I was calling them UberliskRangeLMWeapon prior to making my guide). My issue was that I was not adding the ::Supporter line into the Target fields on the specified Events. Once I fixed that along with properly adding a 2-5 to the TentacleAttack (Name) for the following Event it worked fine:
Humm....those were the ones causing my issues before. If you like you can share your map with me and I can take a look at it and let you know what the issue is. Up to you. :)
I found my problem. It turns out in Events+ what should have been AnimBracketState.*.AfterClosing was put as AnimBracketState. I forgot to mark
AfterClosing. Whoops...
mrm3fan,
I followed your guide and managed to get an ultralisk with spine crawler model attached. I have a problem though - the spine crawler doesn't appear as weapon on my uberlisk and he can't use it to attack stuff. I added the UberliskRanged to the uberlisk's weapon list, but it isn't working for some reason.
Any hints on what I could be doing wrong?
The Spines are meant to be passive (meaning you don't interact with them). You don't see them listed as a Weapon cause we told it to make them Hidden in the Options for the weapons. That weapon area of your Units only shows like 4-5 things anyways so you wouldn't even be able to see all 5 of the SpineCrawler Weapons anyways. The SpineCrawlers themselves should just be attacking anything within there range you don't have to tell the Uberlisk to do anything.
FYI: I am working on a video tutorial that show everything on creating the working SpineCrawlers attached to the Uberlisk. Right now it is looking like the tutorial will be about 1 hour in length and I will have to slip it up into 6 10-minute videos to even attempt yo get it on Youtube..lol. Might be awhile before you see that though.
Hi there, I have a solution for the death-nuke-blast-thing. I know you want it to be as much as blizzcon as possible but I got something that works fine and explodes as well. Here is my trigger:
Uberlisk Death
Events Unit - Any Unit Dies
Local Variables
Conditions (Unit type of (Triggering unit)) == Uberlisk (uberlisk is the unit type, not the actual unit but if you have it in the test map you could use the unit itself)
Actions Environment - Create Ghost - Nuke (Damage) on (Triggering unit) from (Triggering unit)
The units in the official nuke radius all die when the uberlisk does, you don't see the bomb coming down, just the nuke animation (all dying units except the uberlisk burn)
Followed your guide to the letter but I ran into an issue, the spine crawlers attached fine and the sound plays when they're supposed to launch.
EDIT
Ok so I stopped the "wiggling" but discovered a new problem, the tentacles will launch, but they get stuck and refure to retract, cause damage, and keep attacking even at crazy range.
Sorry for the late response. Are all of the tentacles getting stuck in the air or are a only a few of them?
If all of them are then you probably forgot to add the ::Supporter line in the Target box for the following Events in the UberliskRangeAttackMissile Actors:
If only a few of them are then once again make sure all of the UberliskRangeAttackMissile Actors have that ::Supporter in the target for those Events and also make sure that you added the needed 2-5 to the end of the TentacleAttack line in these Events as well as the following Event in the UberliskSpineCrawlerTentacle Actors:
All the said events are correctly added, but I am noticing a possible bug.
When double checking my events I notice that even when the you have no source name for your event, when you click on the event the Source Name field shows up as "Plants, Alien" is that normal? It doesn't appear to apply the source name.
That' something odd the Editor does, When you first set the Source I always set it to (None). However once you close out of those windows and go back into them and select those Events again it shows that Plant thing over there. As long as nothing shows up on the left hand side for the Event you should be fine. You can send me the map if you like. It is up to you.
Glad to hear it devilesk. I guess this will see some more attention since it was posted on the front page O_o. As I asked at the beginning of posting this if there is anyway to improve the guide please let me know. I was working on creating a video tutorial that walked through the current guide but so far that is over an hour long. I still might see about finishing that up and posting it on Youtube but I need to see about getting a better Mic as the quality is pretty bad when I am talking in the videos.
I have tried to follow your instructions to the 't' but something has gone horribly wrong. my uberlisk attack well enough but he flings himself instead of a tentacle and then dies a bloody death after killing a single zergling. hardly uber I know. I am confident I've copied the UberliskSpineCrawlerTentacle# events correctly. if you could point me in the right direction that would be good. if you could tell me exactly what I did wrong that would be even better :P
as for improving the guide, it is very clear and precise in it's instructions. however I feel I haven't learnt as much as I could have. if you could go through and add some notes as to what the reader is doing and why, that would be awesome. apart from that, I feel it was very well put together.
I just went though your document, and it appears to be working perfectly, great job on the guide, I am quite happy with the Uberlisk. As for some suggestions, (from someone brand new to map editing) I often found myself lost and not sure what piece I was supposed to be working on, It was not always clear (to me at least) which actor or effect or model (etc.) I should have been on. So, sometimes I would spend a lot of time trying to figure out where I should be, and I think that titles, or at least something indicating a change (instead of just changing) would have helped me a ton.
To be fair, that may have just been because this was my first created unit, and I honestly had no idea what an actor was when starting this, and maybe creators should start on something easier than a Uberlisk haha. I am still glad I finished this though, because I learned a lot about creating units, so thank you for the guide, it was awesome.
Um hello. I read mrm3fan's guide. I tried making an uberlisk. Only 2 of the spine crawlers appeared. Also they never attacked. Can someone please check the map I made for my errs. Thnx.

Most likely you want to check the UberliskSpineCrawlerTentacle Actors Events.
Make sure the one that involve the Burrow command are setup as outline in the guide.
For the second one it may be confusing. It should be something like WeaponStart.UltraliskRange.AttackStart (Msg Type.Source Name.Sub Name)
