Hey gang! I've been hard at work on a melee map analyzer to help understand and development new maps. I love melee maps and if you do, too, come check it out! Here's some of the images it can generate:
If you have ideas for more analysis output please post something on the project site!
I really love your program, dimfish. I took a look at it when you first put it on the Repository, but it looks like it's been updated a bit, will definitely give it another look.
What language did you create this in? Everyone creating third party apps for SC2 (MWE, Moonlite, Sparsile, that's basically everyone) has been swapping ideas/tossing things around in #MWE on our IRC if you want to stop by.
EDIT: Someone suggested converting "rush distance" into "game time", which I thought was a great idea... Should only need to be done for the few starting units in T1 and that's about it.
Makes me feel like making a melee map just so I can balance it using this tool. But this would be a great help, especially since I love asymmetrical maps. :)
is there a chance we will see an updated version of this tool any time soon?
I think it is a wonderfull thing to play around with, but there seems to be problems with the new version of sc2. I tested it with the map I am currently working on. it did not recognize a ramp (radius=4).
another issue is that it marked the first expansion as the natiural althoug the ramp to this exe is blocked with stones.
I have gotten the new formats sorted out (with as many maps as I can test, anyway) but I am knee-deep in some major improvements as well. I won't put out a new release until the tool is "put back together" basically, and some day job stuff flared up where I worked over the last two weekends.
Short version: I got busy, but I'm back on the analyzer and there will be a nice new format+new feature release coming!

Ah, it was just in a comment he made a week or two ago, :).
I shot him an e-mail, he's planning on getting a release out pretty soon.
