I`ll have this thread remain for about a week or two. So that most mappers will be aware of the future plans on this implementation.
What we were thinking about is to really try to give some of the larger projects/and maps that have had considerable effort and quality put in it, To be featured for an entire week on a little spacing, Somewhere, on the main page.
The idea is to create more awareness to players of these possible good maps.
So every week, You could look forward to seeing what`s being "recommended" or featured by Sc2mapster.
How this will work is fairly simple. Authors may inform us to potentially select their map to be listed. We take the entries into consideration and choose one or two perhaps. It then will be featured for an entire week. Not on the main news , but a little side section somewhere on the main page.
Authors that were unsuccessful may proceed to submit again in the weeks to come. And the process of selecting will start again, and its highly possible their map will be chosen at some point if it is good.
vjeux seemed welcoming of this idea. We will need time of course to set it in place. This was just to give all you authors a heads-up, that if you have something good, it`ll get decent exposure.
Any questions, or liking/disliking of this system may be expressed here.
I like this idea. I do think that you should avoid featuring maps that are already on the front page of the popularity list on battle.net, though, as that would be kind of a waste of a chance to promote a quality unknown map.
This sounds really neat. I just wanna point out something which you guys might do anyways but cant hurt to mention it. To keep all the featured/recommended maps in some sort of archive. So that we can always go back and look up a map that you played like maybe 2 months ago, and liked it but forget the name.
Well, if we dont see too much support for this, then there probably wont be an implementation. Which would be disappointing but I hope more authors or players /sign it or approve, otherwise, I dont know.
While it's a nice idea, I'm not certain that SC2Mapster recieves enough front page hits for it to make an impact? This page is a great resource for modders/mappers interested in learning and sharing information about the editor, but does it really fill the roll of being a portal for the general player looking to play custom maps?
The current Map lsit only shows updated projects with their maps attached. A new project will get noticed, but updates won't be noticed unless you also update a file, i.e. the map. Most people dosn't want to uplaod their map files, sicne tht enables someone else to publish them. Rather, you gladly create a page, add some images and reffers to the bnet realm where the map is published.
So my question is, would you still consider applied maps that doesn't have the mapfile uploaded, for this feature?

Of course. A project page with information of it must be on Sc2mapster though. Even if its just some images, video and text. People doing big projects wont upload their maps, for good reason, but that shouldn`t be a factor in not exposing their map.
Kalekin does make a good point. This could be on Sc2mapster and Curse though. We`d pick the maps, and let them list it there and we could have it on Sc2mapster too, depending. We`ll see how things go.

A little off topic if I may - but do you think the current map list should fuction differently? I mean sort on latest udpates, regardless of a map file is updated or not.
Unfortunately not a lot of support has been shown from authors. So, if they really dont want it, then implementation would be a waste of time.
At the moment, As an example, I would have probably listed during the course of a month, One of the following each week
Catalyst
Survivors vs Swarm
Nexus Word Wars
Bounty Hunters
Amongst other maps.
I guess its back to authors of good maps fighting the popularity system and resets. If support is heightened in the future, I`ll consider brining the map of the week system back.
I would definitely like this.
And if there aren't any good or new maps in a week you can just use the map from last week or choose another one from the submitted maps of other weeks that also were good.

This is a welcome feature.
BumpInTheNight likes this.
Can it become featured on curse too?
I think that the curse community is larger because it contains players and not only modders as mapster :D
Good idea;p
All suggestions from this thread will be taken into consideration and we`ll do the best we can with them.
Maybe you could get blizzard to facebook it or something. I'm sure they would agree if vjeux or Sixen asked them to.
Sign.
I suppose that this would go against their official featured map work :D

I dont think there are enough large/interesting projects for this to work (atleast on weekly basis).
Its a good idea, but I just dont think it would work...
But if you do it like promote some maps whenever good map pops out...then it could work?

Of course I sign for this :p
Maybe put this thread on homepage to make it popular and see if people are really interested?
