"Rock, Paper whatnow? You read it right all right.
"What is this!? You can't make a game out of Rock, Paper, Scissors! ...Can you?"
Watch me.
Background
"Why Rock, Paper, Scissors? So basically. I had some downtime a while back while exporting some WoW Models when I found this:
"What's that?"
I'm glad you asked! Here's a pictures that will clarify:
It's the Crawling Claw pet from WoW that you can get with the new archeology proffesion. And it has Rock, Paper, Scissor animations = I felt like taking advantage of that.
"...Why?"
Because I can...
So anyway, I found that model and got the urge to do something with it. Hence this map. I'm casually making it, it's not supposed to be super big and shiny, it's something I'm doing because it's easy, fun and possible.
"But, Zarakk! Aren't you worried that your map won't be played or become very popular!?"
I couldn't care less to be honest. I map because I enjoy it, it's fun. Sure it's nice if what I create gets noticed and played by others, but that's not really the goal for me regarding this map. If it does though, I won't complain. :b
Gameplay
"So... er... What do you do?"
Well, what I'm doing with this well-known concept is making three different game-modes.
Tournament
First off is the most basic and generic thing you could've guessed that I would do. Good old classic tournament mode.
So, you're four players (any player who isn't actually playing is controlled by a RNG AI, so you could theoretically play this in singleplayer) who each controls a hand.
A timer will start counting down, and when it reaches zero you will be sent into two random arenas for 1v1 hand-to-hand combat.
Arenas: Mapster Arena:
Temple Arena:
Colony Arena:
Infested Arena:
[Placeholder Text of Awesomeness]
A popup will appear asking you a simple question:
"Rock, Paper or Scissors?"
You then choose your choice, and hope for the best. If you fail to choose something within the time-limit, a random hand will be chosen for you.
You then watch the hands jump up into the air and revealing the winner, who then proceeds to the final round against the winner of the other 1v1. And after the winner is declared, the initial vote for gamemode pops up and you can select a different mode. (Or Tournament again if you weren't satisfied).

Free Roam
The second mode I just chose to title "Free Roam", because I couldn't find a more suitable name.
This time you become a hand in a small open third-person-view environment.
My idea with this was just so that you could run around and challenge whoever you wanted to R/P/S.
"...That sounds totally monotonous and dull"
Yeah, I know. I think so too. Which is why... I decided to throw in some random stuff.
Firstly, if you guys remember the Minigame Contest we had here at Mapster a while ago, I submitted a little simple minigame I chose to call Whack-a-Ling.
Personally, I enjoyed jumping around splashing Zerglings, but I could never be arsed with turning that concept into a full-blown map, nor any idea how I would do that in a good way. So I decided to just create a little area in the Free Roam mode you can enter at anytime, and jump on Zerglings until you drop. (I plan on adding a leaderboard with some useful information later, like Zerglings whack'd and R/P/S hands won.)
Secondly, I have put in a little area which you can unlock (won't say how, but there's a screenshot hinting it below), which is a bound.
"What's a bound?"
If you don't know what a bound is, here's a of a bound in StarCraft 2, and here's a of one from StarCraft: Brood War.
I haven't finished the triggers for that yet, so I'm unsure of how many levels it will be, but I will supply more information on that later.
I'm not finished with the Free Roam mode, so things are still likely to change, and additions could probably be made at a later date.

Tug-o-War
"A tug... Seriously? It's not like we haven't seen those before"
Yeah I know, I know. But as I said, I'm making this map because I want to and I enjoy mapping. It's also a learning process for me to advance within other fields than terraining in the vast Galaxy Editor.
"Right, that's all reasonable and stuff, but what's so special about a tug?"
Well, since the whole map is about Rock, Paper, Scissors. I'm making the gameplay a little different than what you are used to.
I haven't started the terrain for this part yet, and haven't worked out a lot of the details, but my idea so far is that you'll send a unit each time you win a game of R/P/S. So you won't just be spamming a unit's beacon or building houses until one side is destroyed.
I haven't worked out how the combats will work, and on what interval and such, but I'll provide you guys with more information as I go along.
Screenshots: None, so far.
Videos: Read above.
Conclusion
"Damn that was a lot of text... Mind giving me a TL;DR version? Preferably not, but I'll summarize anyway.
I was bored and found a WoW model, so I started making a map based on the concept of the classic game "Rock, Paper, Scissors".
It will have three gamemodes: Tournament/Free Roam/Tug-o-War
Believe it or not, I'm making this out of other reasons than popularity and making a huge shiny map that everyone will be like "WOAH! What is that thing!?" for.
I'm making it because I actually enjoy working in the editor and I thought this idea was something nice, casual, simple that I could do to advance in other areas than terraining.
I hope you enjoyed this, and will enjoy it if I ever finish it, and if you didn't enjoy it... ...Well
...I don't really mind :)
Feel free to ask questions/post ideas/whine/admire/have a barbecue in this thread and I will update it as I go along.
Maybe this map is what the pictures are for. Sixen is so sly...
EDIT: Just noticed that other people were in before build up at least for me. Anyways, I would think that Zarakk is using this new found publicity on rock paper scissors to finally unveil his map so to get more popularity, what a sly fox.
EDIT: Just read the full post, I skimmed before, and saw you did it because you like using the editor. Sorry if I offended you. But with the attention from Sixen's pictures this map will probably get looked at just because of that. Now that I read the whole post I actually like the idea, it seems more than your typical rock paper scissors. Although, don't you think you're fitting a little too much into one map?

Edit: Also, an invisible cookie for anyone who can name all characters on the Mapster Arena.
You in the right corner
Progammer is too easy to spot.
I see the Topling (Xaragoth/Gorandor), btw i want the model
Theres another zergling behind the topling, which i guess is the debatesling and therefore rodrigo
No clue who the dark templar should be.
Nice... looks like some good shiny mindless fun. I really like the hand model. Have you ever played the Zelda series? The hand reminds me of master hand from super smash bros, and floormasters/wallmasters from Zelda.
Look at all the comments. nobody bashing u. Everyone here love u Zarrakk! including me... But why is it that everytime Rodrigo posts something about his social game, he got all the bashing etc etc... I hope the bashing is just teasing...
My post simply wants to know why Rodrigo's social game got bashed and yours no single negative comment yet...

The reason people are bashing debates because in the early days Rodrigo filled half his posts and multiple thread with facts about Debates :b Or somehow related everything he posted to to debates, so it just spinned off and I think it's mostly teasing now-a-days. (This is in no way me bashing him btw). He made his map being noticed everywhere, I just made my first thread about it ever.
But yeah, as EternalWraith was kind enough to put it, stay on topic (:
Edit: @TheAlmighty, the person the Dark Templar is supposed to be doesn't actually have a Dark Templar as an avatar, it was just the closest thing I could find, and you also missed the most subliminal one.

Ok Ok. Enough for me talking about Debates...
So wanna hear what I would love to see from this game? You won't necessarily agree but here is what I would add:
1. At the beginning of the game, players can attach unit type to each hand. i.e. Ultralisk to Rock, Banshee to Paper, Marauder to Scissors.
2. There are costs too for each unit. So you cannot attach tier 3 units to all hand type. So say you start with 1000. Ultra costs 500 already, you cannot attach Battlecruiser which costs 600 for example. You would then attach Banshee which cost 300 Paper. You are left with 200. so you pick marauder.
3. Each hand type has unit category too. example
Rock: Ultralisk, Collosi, Roaches, Firebat (Ground unit that looks tough)
Paper: Air Unit
Scissors: Light Unit.
Doesnt necessarily has to be like what I wrote above. But you get my point. Each hand has unit category associated to it. Might need some data editing and balancing too.
4. This could fit to Tug of War category imo. But then again it becomes another tug of war...

Looks nice.
But can i suggest speeding it up a bit.
Ya, this is an older version :b I'm still tweaking on a nice/balanced duration for the countdowns.
please tell me this isn't what sixen built up on the news >.<
Thats what i thought when i first saw the thread title :p
lol its not... Z has been working on this for awhile (by awhile im just applying before the SS thing =P )
it actully looks kinda fun tbh lol.

How tactful are you..
@Zarakk
Thats quite a bit of text there;p. Consider condensing it better if possible. I`ll read over it tomorrow and give you feedback.
It was a joke :P
Who knows?
Now who would do such a thing? ;)
Nah, it's all good. At least for now.
I'll consider it.

- Install SC2 -> 15-20 mins
- Patching from 1.1 to 1.3 -> 5-10 mins
- Searching and Browsing for Rock-Scissors-Paper map on the custom game list -> 2-3 mins
- Waiting in lobby -> 1-2 mins
- Loading the map -> 1 min
- Intro etc etc -> 1 min
- Play!
Who's praising this like God? I lol'd.
@TheAlmaity: Go
You missed Zarakk, to the right near the fire.
