Since I have no ideas, I would like to know what kind of projects you would like to see. I would take these ideas and try my best to combine them into a decent project. I am an adequate terrainer, but by no means the best. I probably would need help with triggers, potential custom units and such. So, what do you think is a good idea?
What seems to be gaining popularity (In the EU servers) are maps that feature partial-coop. Take for example Catch n Run & Mineralz(Not sure whether Mineralz is in the US but it just recently got popular [Recently as in I literally saw it move up from the bottom of page 2 to page 1]. )
Note that partial coop is just something I coined for maps that have some (but minor) co-operative instances. Games that heavily rely on coop (NOTD, Star battle) often result in a quick end in the presence of a newbie, usually resulting in an unsatisfying game for the defeated. Games that have no sense of coop yet place players on the same team (Green TD, Colonial Line Wars, and Night Special Forces) are rather competitive and might yield unfulfilling results.
What I feel would be a good map would be one where you would have the choice of either going rambo or teaming up with someone you could hopefully trust(where if you team up, there's a higher risk of loss but if you succeed, the payload will be better). So, maybe something like a 12 player map where it first starts off as a FFA but it might change according to whether players want to ally with each other(Defend against AI / Each other / A specially selected player of evil). Solar Conquest is somewhat like this (I think).
Yeah, I know this is rather vague but it's kinda late at night and I'll be heading off to bed first.
All maps referenced above are good maps but I'm just categorizing them according to how I feel the teamplay is like.
Whoops, almost forgot to check back. Lol, as of this time of writing, Mineralz somehow shot to number 2 in the popularity list.
Ah, how could I have forgotten sotis, marine arena and zealot frenzy. Yeah, they're high in our list as well. Also, notice how they're partial coop as well (but more slightly skewed to the coop side). If all players just play well in general (Keeping their lane in check, building proper counter units to their enemies), then they'll already be a tough opponent. However, if they teamed up (gangbang-ing poor heroes, swapping lanes to make other peoples lives harder, building units that complement your partner's units etc), then their chances of success will be significantly higher.
Alliances that can be changed easily, well somewhat. I was thinking more along the lines of 'optional alliances', where it was really up to you whether to team up or not, it being a subjective coop game.
What I noticed is that players tend to be rather competitive. They (We) want to win, and if they can do it alone, they will. With something like partial coop games, those who trust no one will be able to survive on their own but those who like to band together will also be allowed to do so, but proper teamwork will obviously be necessary for them to actually succeed.
I've always wondered whether a game like Gladiator RPG from w3 would be successful here. If you haven't heard/played it before, it's a custom game where players(gladiators) will choose their respective classes and be thrown into an arena, using the terrain to their advantage and try to survive all the wild beasts attack. The part where the 'AI' is, however, is actually another specially selected player(Called the Imperial Director). This dude is able to choose what kind of monsters to send out each wave to torture the players whilst laughing maniacally. Eventually, when the gladiators get strong enough(provided they survive as well), they'll battle their way out of the arena, going face-to-face against the exclusive Imperial Director hero before escaping. Kind of a neat game, if you ask me.
Well yeah, but I don't really care what ideas come up. I am fresh out and I'd like to do some hybrid something-with-something map but I have no idea what. I'm no professional like probably 1/2 of the Mods are, but I have fun seeing things come together. I guess some kind of marine arena but a bit more laid-back is more specific. There is no way I can make maps like Marine Arena or Zealot Frenzy though, Crayon and Incinerate are just too genius.

I also felt that Gladiator lacked a certain something but can't quite put my finger on it. I only remembered it because it was the only map where a human was given control in choosing the waves, which really makes things much more challenging. Maybe something like 12 players vs 3 almighty dudes.
Any game type can be a rage, as long as its done well.

O I get it. Alliances that can be changed easily. The maps that are exremely popular here are STOIS, marine arena and zealot frenzy.

I played gladiator for a match or 2, but it's not crazy addicting, least not for me. I guess team vs team RPGish things are all the rage huh?
