So after playing Sotis the past few days, i was looking on the forums and realized that new hero ideas where needed, or something along those lines, so instead of just writing it all down on paper i actually took a hands on approach and opened up galaxy for the 1st time. I read some tutorials for hero/unit creation and had some fun *attempting* to customize abilities as best as i could but had no luck, that was yesterday and today is today, i had an idea to develop some heroes for my project, not some one else s, that way i can enjoy doing the terrain and making the scenario work the way i want it.
I started this terrain today and i have a basic idea of whats going to happen in it. The player will control a single unit/hero, with leveling, attributes, new abilities ect ect, there are going to be creeps located around the map that re spawn that players can kill to gain exp, as well as... oh god here it comes... a DotA-like gameplay style. It wont be exactly like DotA, but the objective of each team is to destroy an npc, or a boss if you like, belong to the enemy. The boss cant be killed straight away as he will have a huge amount of health and deal loads of damage, so end-game/level is required and an entire team + groups of your teams npcs to take it down. Here is the catch, both bosses will have buffs that are given by other bosses, around the map that can to be destroyed, similar to Alterac Valley in world of warcraft, the final boss is hard, but if you destroy the towers he looses his guards and buffs, which +25% over all damage. The system i will implement will be similar, so with out further ado, i present the map so far, dont worry it will change alot as i get an overall picture of what exactly is going on.
The Map
Each team will have to push across the map, using the npcs as cover, similar to DotA and Sotis, instead of having towers, i was maybe thinking having a group of units instead, a strong group that take the same time to destroy as the towers, just to make things different :D
How the heroes will work
There will be 3 main types,Strength, Dexterity and Wisdom. Each type will have several different heroes associated with it, for example Dexterity will be assassins, scouts ect ect will have more mobility and have fast, attacks. Strength heroes will have high armor and high health, general purpose meat shields and the wisdom will have low armor/health but deal huge damage, possible healer in there as well. Each hero will start at level 1 and hit a level cap of maybe 20, and will have possible 5-6 different skills, unlocking the 'ultimate' ability at late levels.
The story
Well on the right hand side of the map are colonists, so that team is going to be terran, so the creeps will be based around marines/marauders/medics. The left hand side has protoss statues and stuff scattered around and was thinking protoss (durr) or maybe even them dark protoss things with the hybrids, they would be interesting to see, and even some zerg in the mix.
So what are your thoughts? dont worry about the lack of texturing and doodad tree spam it will mostly change soon :D
