One of the multiplayer maps of my AC130K project turned freelance here this weekend. I had a chance to play this with 4 friends online and it was such as blast. So i decided to make it a project for it self.
This map is call waterworks. Its first person shooter, multiplayer deathmatch / team deathmatch.
None of my friends was online at the time of the recording so i had to place some dummies in just to give you an idea of how it works.
The third person view is also not available ingame, but this is just to show how it will look like for other players when you run around.
I have scrapped all the weapons from my previous demo (due to copyright reasons vs Battle.net) and will make my own some time.
hence:
I have added sight adjustment, so the camera will focus on what you are looking at (inspired by Crysis).
Ill add some more weapons and GUI soon, and release it here on sc2mapster.com
Looks great :) You should see if you cant make it so when your on a ledge that you can jump off to get down, and maybe if possible make it so if they jump from a 2nd lvl to the bottom lvl(0) that they take minor falling damage? That would be neat!
Anything that has a camera following a unit like in a FPS, 3PS, and even just from above causes massive amounts of lag on b.net. Not to mention the use of W,A,S, and D movement which also causes a large amount of lag. I've already taken measures to scrap my 3PS camera/WASD and if/when the lag created by camera's and keyboard movement is gone i'll reimplement them. It will suck to see such hard work by all these people to go unnoticed if they don't fix the lag problems.
If your getting bad fps with those types of games then its time to get a better computer, every time Ive played a fps/3ps + WASD style type map online it doesnt lag.
Have you gotten it to work online? If my own experience is anything to go by, I can't see how this map will be playable on B.net. (because of lag)
As stated in the main post i did try this out with 4 buddies online.
Today i had a chance to test the latest version with one from here and you do notice "slight" lag. But it does not affect the gameplay that much. Its still quite fun.
The map is now available in a early build on battle.net (EU, under the name Waterworks)
I will add the same build here later when i get some time to clean up the code and give out proper credits to the ones i have shared code with.
fps as in frames per second, you going to say if your getting 1fps ur not lagging?
Lag is slang for network latency. It means data isn't transferring between computers quickly enough. FPS has to do with your hardware and how well it can render the image for you. You can have the best computer on the planet but if there are latency issues, it'll still lag. If your hardware is really really bad it can cause you to lag, but for the most part lower end hardware just means that player will see their screen refresh at a slower rate (i.e. lower FPS) without causing issues for the other players.
WASD controls are tricky to implement without really inefficient use of triggers, which leads to many times the normal amount of data being passed between each player's computer. This can cause lag which has nothing to do with your graphics card or getting low framerates or any of that stuff - just network latency.
How do I find this map? I'd like to download Waterworks, but I have no idea how to find it, I typed it in in the search but it doesn't find anything, and I can't find it online. BTW, where to downloaded maps go?

wow, amazing work!
imho this is the first real nice looking fps/3rdps for sc2 made so far.
keep up the work, just cant wait to play it!
Me too!
Very, very nice work.
However, I have to ask. Does it suffer from the typical "can't shoot where there's no ground" issue that's been preventing fpses working so far?

Wow that's some awesome stuff.

Last time I checked lag and fps don't have anything to do with one another.

You can shoot anywhere you want. If you shoot towards the sky, well... you shoot into the air...

Can't find it either on the eu battle.net
Hmmm...well, I'm from America, is that my problem? lol...but this game isn't even on the internet anywhere to download. Not that I can find anyway.
The map is now also available here. (notice that this is only 2 days of work, so don't bug me up with any imperfection)

@malu05: Go
Sweet, when are you dumping that function list?
@rrowland: Go
off-topic: yo rrowland i played your sniper game with you haha. :D
on-topic:
can i play single player in that map malu? I just want to test it out without lag.
One of my friends wanted to be a part of the map, so i gave him his Nightelf (Grand Marshal: Selenez) [GM] Selenez
Some news chatter about the map...
Some Advertising is always good...
Didnt really like the original poster so i spiced it up with the "real" Nova
Still can't find it.
Well.. you can kill zerglings... there is not really any objectives in the game yet so its just kill till you get bored.
