Hi, Im Tekaichi. I'm making this post to ask you all, what features you seek in a RPG map.
Please give your opinion, and see them come true!
Thanks for the attention.
It probably will be, unless you're aiming for full scale raids or something. But then again, too many players may lag the players with lower quality computers.
Depends on how graphic the spells you use are, and how complex the boss fights are though. And whether or not you use fps / tps view (those lag quite badly for a good chunk of people from what I've seen)
Well, not expecting to use fps, because it sucks badly, the camera sucks, and have many bugs. I was thinking using tps but zoomed and with a slightly diferent pitch.
the Issue even with common MMORPGs it that they have 'end'. If something, no matter how good, will end than it get's boring.
Major factors in my opinion are
randomized mobs (with randomized abilities and stuff)
randomized loot (or at least so flexible that you will rarely find the same item twice and there's always a chance for better one)
i had such system in map i was making, working beautiful, but issue was saving those custom items on player since they don't exist by default. Bank size limit killed it
some sort of ultimate challenges which by the default are impossible to beat.
customization (not so 'perfectly balanced') in form of talents and gear (which random loot is addressing)
open class system to enhance customization a lot.
DO NOT make any tps,fps etc. Default camera is much better for those games.
That's not what 'I' want; It's what i observed from most of games. In my opinion those factors make game fun and interesting to play due lack of "that's all" feeling and constant chance of having new and different experience.
Code-based save system, for your hero. Like in "The black road" best rpg in WC3 eva. (;
In the black road, there were around 7 bosses that you needed to kill in order to get good drops. It was fun as hell, but the whole problem with SCII is that it doesn't have the same hero-mechanic and item-mechanic as WC3, so it takes a hell of a long time to create items. Although this might be the case, I encourage you to focus on items and drops, as that's what gives me the feeling of satisfaction.
EDIT: Oh yea, and because of the in-built saves, you weren't needed to start over each and every time.
Maybe like final fantasy, maybe like HoMM or maybe like some other game. Or think how you want combat to flow and design system around how you want player to experience it.
Are there any videos of this map? I keep hearing about how good it is but since I don't have wc3.. Is it worth to play it in single-player or it's one of those maps that are only playable with friends?
Its not as good as people say it is. The main reason being horrible coding which caused huge lagg most of the time.
Strangely enough I cannot find videos for it. But from what I remember you started off in the middle of the map in a city. From there you could head out to anywhere to kill bosses and stuff. From what I remember there wasnt anything too special about it. You could get spellbooks from monsters and do some quests...Not sure if there even was a storyline....
I do not know why people praise it so much...the lagg was gamebreaker for me....

Omg I remember that one. Played it a few times, it was fun. The main reason it was fun was because it worked.
The game was based on greek mythology, specifically on 'the titans'. There were 9 or so bosses spread across the map, and different ways to acces them. Some you had to do quests to get to, others you didn't. The game was highly experience-based. You started in the top right corner of the world and made your way to the bottom left corner. There was a northeast region, a region in the middle and one to the southwest and there were level requirements for entering these three regions, the northeast one being the one you started in. Great item system, great skills, classes and a pretty big community at one time. Also, the map that I'm talking about is TBR 2, which is far superior to 1 IMO. I never experienced lag, but you almost NEED a full game to play it properly at end-game.

@Tekaichi: Go
Here's a list of features I'd like to see in an RPG for SC2:
Here are two more:
I will be very sad if they don't come true ='(
Turn based combat, like final fantasy?
That'd be cool if it was single player, might end up being a pain for mutli player though.
No turn based! its not good for multi player rpg!!!
if its single player then yea...I would kinda like to see turn based for relaxing gameplay :)
Hm ok, This rpg will be multiplayer, for 14 players. (Or less, still work on that, maybe alot of players will be confusing.)

Well thats true, but Not my fault that some players have stone age computers.

a good RPG have to be simple to play, with progression and a *fun factor*

Everyone says so, even more reason to be brave and experiment ;]
