Actually posted about this project a couple of months back with some very very early pics. Can't find that old topic, but we've got a bit of progress we can show off.
As a bit of an intro, I'm part of a small modding group. We're working on a total conversion mod for SC2 (meaning we will change everything, brand new). Project Warfare is just a working title, we obviously will need to pick a better name in the future. Our gameplay is RTS similar to SC2 but we're adding a couple neat little twists to hopefully keep everything fresh and interesting. We are primarily featuring two factions, and we've got a small SP-campaign in the works for you guys.
Our first twist is doing some mech combat. Big walking mech units that you can individually upgrade with different weapons and armor, so you can really personalize them.
Second is we've added in things like artillery strikes, paratroopers, fighter jets, and other cool features like that. Makes the maps feel like real battlefields.
So enough talking, here's a couple pictures we just put together the other day. Please let us know what you think!
We've been working really hard on this for the past many months, so any comments/thoughts would be appreciated.
We did have a hell of a time getting everything in-game properly. Its kind of tough to notice but actually none of that stuff is running normal maps (except for terrain textures). Some really weird issues getting them to work.
If anyone is interested to see our progress, I'll keep this topic updated as we go. Still a ton of work ahead of us, but a good start!
I mean your exporter, in particular. I'm honestly interested in how your modelers setup models, since I'm having issues with normal maps having shading errors, particularly inverted when mirrored geometry is used for symmetrical models.
edit: Sorry, I missed your post up there that states you guys are not using normal maps.
Beautiful! Beautiful.... I fall down on my knees and cry now... very beautiful!
Seriously, put price tag on your map please. I'll pay for this kind of dedicated project. Stop listening to those cheap bastard who only want stuff for free. Put 99c at least if you ever release it!
GnaReffotsirk: yep same exporter from nintoxicated. He's actually been a HUGE help to us, as without his exporter this mod wouldn't have any in-game progress, only models. Hopefully we can get this normal maps issue fixed, if we do, we'll be sure to throw up a tutorial or something to get the info out to everyone. But so far no luck on normals :/
Maknyuzz: kinds words appreciated! :)
Btw while I'm at it, is anyone good with movie editing/trailers? I was hoping in a couple weeks/months to get a nice little gameplay trailer up and running.
Okay gents, been a while. Just went in-game and took a handful of screenshots. This particular image is taken from one of the singleplayer missions (a cut-scene to be exact).
Thank you. My current "fix" is by multiplying the blue channel to both green and alpha. It works on some instances. Also tried using tangent space normal map channels as well. I've used this for the Carrier model as a work-around.
I hope this helps you guys in some way.

alexbis, what tools are you guys using?
