Ah, good ol' pokemon... I remember how i had 382 out of 386 on my emerald... and then i lost my gameboy :( Was missing Sui... Ummm... Cant remember how it was spelled, ice legendary doggy, Ho'oh, Celebi, Mew and Deoxys.
also, no one noticed that the zealot is imba? I mean, it beat MULTIPLE probichus! PROBICHUS! they must be the most badass pokemon around!
Anyway, i'll help with testing. if you need me to design some pokemons/spells, up for that as well. I can even make em in the data editor if you want to. I got free time for a couple of things here and there.
And ofc, i'll test as well if youre on the EU servers. That wasn't an offer, that was an order.
Oh oh oh oh!!! I was about to make this kind of map as well!! But I am currently working on TD style game. But since you're already making it oh well, I'll just focus on my TD. And I'll be glad to help if you want. Good luck with it. Your preview looks good! Keep it up! Can't wait! I am currenlty also playing pokemon emerald just got the HM Dive. I'll help testing for sure if u're in US server.
Back to main topic, had an idea to make "something like Pokémon" but didn't get really into it.
My original idea was something likes this, summarized more or less:
At the beginning, you choose a race. The trainer then becomes the correspondent "helper" race unit: adjutant, executor and some zerg (not the overlord, probably Infested Ariel Hanson was fine). Each trainer has different bonus stuff.
You're supposed to be a "commander" that must complete a mission of sorts. For that, you'll use creatures and technology of different races to form a team of "heroes". When you're about to defeat them, you can "pardon" their lives in exchange for servitude, and if they agree, they join you.
An important point is that all the races form a tree, so if you get the lowest unit of a race, you can "evolve" it to any unit of that race. Usually, you'll get units in the middle, limiting their evolutions. This evolution process would mirror each race's tech tree, with some special requirements (like element stones in the original) for some evolutions.
Zones are heavily based on the original (I would be doing this with Silver/Gold model, but including the Red/Blue zone as in the original; in case of size problems, just red/blue). They're distributed as different planets, and the water routes are actually space. You need a flying creature to travel around that routes.
Aside from that, nothing new, just Pokémon game based. My main goal was to "parody" both Pokémon and StarCraft universes mixing them together, so when you play it you get all the references and whatever :P.
If the info above serves as inspiration for you, then good luck with it. I don't think I'll ever get to go beyond my half-made terrain xDDD.
I've got a friend that works on a program that extracts all the maps & pokemons stats from the Red and Blue versions of pokemon: http://pokanalysis.ubitux.fr/
You might want to use this as raw data for your map :)
A suggestion re: the map size limit, you could make say, 4 towns per map and release multiple maps based on the towns involved, then use banks to transfer people's characters across.
I'd suggest (like you said) making it almost mocking of Pokemon. I hate games that take themselves to seriously but totally can't pull of the seriousness. Seriously, man. :D

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
You should post a pokedex for this... would love it! and how many Pokemon will there be! And do you choose your starter (ex zealot, zergling, marine) will help with testing by the way! ^.^
I've been asked for an update, and instead of responding via PM, I figured I'd post it here.
I am still actively working on this project. There were a couple of elements that required my attention that I wanted to fix sooner than later. The combat system used in the demo worked really well for PvC, but wouldn't have worked well for PvP. I needed to open it up some to allow PvP combat, and also eventually multi-combat (PPvCC, PPvPP, etc). Multi-combat is not planned for the immediate feature, but it is something I would like to have eventually, so I've left the combat system open enough to allow this in the future.
Also, most of the map (minus the terrain) needed to be switched to a SC2Mod file. The process of doing so what a great deal more complicated than I imagined, and I'm glad I did it before I got much further. The SC2Mod will allow me to quickly develop additional maps which share the same properties, saving and loading, warrior stats, combat code, et cetera. This will fascilitate the tournament style map, as well as the possibility of breaking up the main story across several maps.
While these modifications really open up the map's possibilities, their effects are not immediately visible. In fact, up until recently the map was entirely broken. Only now am I getting it back to the state it was in before. Once this is complete (which it nearly is), my priorties will be catching units and adding stats to combat. The saving/loading piece is largely built, but I need to formalize which data to save before I can finalize this process.
I'd like to encourage people to contribute in any way they can. In regards to the pokedex, I'd really like to open that up to user submission. I do not yet have a forum for these conversations, so please save your ideas. However, in the near future I will be looking for warrior ideas which will include model, funny pokemon-like name, type, and any special qualities they might have. I will do my best to include the most popular ideas, but I may choose to veto an idea if it goes against the game's theme. Also, balance will always be a priority.
What I'd really like to open up is move submissions. Moves are weapons, and I'm interested in anyone who's interested in coming up with one or more. Specifically, I'd like to see some elemental effects like Bubble, Ice Beam, Flame Wave, et cetera. If you're interested, contact me and we can go over the details.
Credit will be given for all submissions.
Anyways, that's where I stand right now. The game still has a long way to go, so I encourage you to be patient, but I am making some good progress. Based on the direction the game has taken so far, I can assure you that it will all be worth it.

Pocket Warriors - A pokemon-style game with SC2 units and full banking. New demo coming soon!
Wait why was it so hard to convert it to a mod file? All you need to do is delete the terrain and then rename the file "filename.sc2mod" instead of "filename.sc2map"...

I am actually interesting in a few very specific Pokemon ideas: starting Pokemon.
To answer the previous posters question: yes, you will be allowed to pick from one of three starting pokemon. The Zealot shown in the video will most likely not be one of them. I would much rather make him a fighting-type Pokemon, which does not align with the starting Pokemon criteria:
Criteria:
Although not entirely required, I'd like to pick one unit from each race for the starting Pokemon. I don't want someone to feel that their race was neglected. However, unit race will have no in-game effect.
Like Pokemon, one starting Pokemon will be water-type, another fire-type, and the last grass type.
Like Pokemon, starting Pokemon should have two evolutions.
Current Ideas:
Zergmander = Zergling, fire-type. Scaled up slightly because Zerglings are small.
Bulbaling = Baneling, grass-type. He will have normal moves and will not explode on impact.
Stalker, water-type (no name, but perhaps reference to a water-strider or something).
Firebat, fire-type (no name)
How can you help?
Although I do kind of like the Stalker/Baneling/Firebat line-up, I welcome other ideas. Also, I'm looking for names and possible evolutions.

Okay, i got a pokedex with 70 units (ill post it after i've prettyified it) my ideas on starters are...
Bulbsling-Infestorsaur-Venaster
Baneling-infestor-Swarm Host/Old Infestor
Since the name "Pocket Monster's" is used by nintendo and is the unabbreviated form of Pokemon, i wouldn't be surprised if it is also copywrited.
what about Starkemon? 0.o
@ZenX1
blame my nocturnal hours for having me do this at 12:00 :D glad for the input, feel free to throw out names for jamive
And if you have gotten much farther i would enjoy seeing more of a promo, that last one seemed more like you just battling (though it did get me excited more about it then anything else ) maybe a gym you catching something a trainer fight maybe a evolution (just some ideas )
