Thanks man, yeah life crisis I like that lol, well tbh it wasn't me who didn't let it get in the way, the doctors who saved my life did, I thought i was powerless to do anything about my situation when I was paralyzed, but when your heart tries to kill you its a whole other ball of wax.
To be fair, I don't think people are complaining directly over the fact that "it took so long" - most people are complaining about the fact that you are advertising your map with an "it took so long" while it doesn't look like something that would need 9 months of development. And that makes sense. If the creators of Duke Nukem Forever suddenly came up with a "A GAME SO EPIC IT TOOK TEN YEARS TO COMPLETE", people would be annoyed as well.
That said, sucks to hear about the bad luck you've gotten - I do hope TMA will get the attention it recieves so you'll have something to feel good about. To make you feel like all that time staggering was in fact useful. Good luck with it all, anyway :)
Just to be clear, I would like to point out that a new Call of Duty comes out every year. Granted, there are technically 2 companies working on it, but still. You are using all of the components that Blizzard provides, and you still came up with what looks to be like a "meh" map.
BTW, I would have been far less harsh if you would have been less arrogant and cocky in your video. It is good. It is very good. So are hundreds of other maps.
Why I bring up Call of Duty, is that they make a full FPS game every year, updating the graphics and UI and everything. You did... a little bit. You are one person, they are a company. Still, do not expect people to go crazy over something that is average.
Once again, I would have been less harsh but... to be honest the video kinda ticked me off a bit. Can't really put a finger on why it did, it just did. Sorry.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't see 2 people were making it. That makes it.. More impressive?
BTW, do not get me wrong, it is a very good map, like I said. I simply think you took the whole "9 months in the making" thing a little too far... Once again, I am sorry. I'm just being honest with you.
I kinda agree with Bounty. If that took nine months, I wouldn't really be using that as a marketing tool. Realistically I would desperately hope no one knew it took that long.
.... a project can easily take 9 months.... the data editor is pretty involved.

In regards to Call of Duty - I haven't *really* played FPS'es lately, but you can barely call any of those games 'updating'? I come from a 'generation' that's used to Doom and Quake going into Half-Life going into Unreal (Tournament) going into Half-life 2. THAT'S an update. With CoD, I feel like they're releasing what you could basically brand as expansion packs every year of so. I felt the same way about Medal of Honor; all games just seem so incredibly similar in look, feel and graphics that it's really a case of "more of the same because it sells" rather than 'revolutionizing/improving the genre'.
How can people be saying "this took 9 months?" when they haven't even played it to see the amount of content/quality in the map. Still looks like a better map than most. Also, the video does come off as cocky but people seem to be overreacting and judging the map on looks.
I think the issue is.. that you had to tell us how good your map is. Instead of just showing us your map aand having us post how awesome it is.
There has been map projects that have been jaw dropping.. and the Author does not say one thing about it.
So I think from this point on it would be better if you just let your map talk for itself ... no need to tell us how Awesome it is. The Map will do that on its own.
I am hoping to see more of this, and if you guys need a tester I am willing to test.
So not to pump your egos guys but usually hate = jealousy. I really didn't find the impressed thing that aggravating tbh. I'm sure you guys are impressed with yourselves, as you probably should be. I know I've been working on my project on and off for about since sc2 came out, just trying to learn the editor, and I plan on taking my sweet time, instead of just putting out a bunch of novelty maps. So GL
I'm gonna add my 2 cents about this project. Speaking from my experience, the team I work with is comprised of people who started working with the editor right when it came out and had mostly less than 1 to 2 semesters worth of coding knowledge and very little knowledge working with any other previous blizzard game editors. I can say that if that is where this project's members started then that growth and level of development is very impressive in 9 months. While I'm not a huge fan of AoS or PVP arena maps I really like the polish of the UI and some of the spell animations look well done. I think it will be interesting to see how the game turns out on release. I am keeping my expectations low though so I can be surprised in a good way when I give it a try. All I can say is don't let any words of discouragement keep you from finishing.
As side note I don't quite agree with putting that it has taken 9 months in the video. I think it would have have been better to have saved that kind of commentary for the forums. I know your purpose was to set yourself aside from the projects which took much less time to complete, but inside a promotional video it feels a bit out of place.
The game technically didn't take "9 months" either, as said they had a lot of delays, and supposedly just scrapped/restarted the project entirely a couple of times.
Lol I was just being nice. They... alter their graphics I would agree with you, they don't really improve them. However, they do technically "improve" their graphics, I don't think that Cod4 was "officially" HD, whereas MW2 and Black Ops are. (Not sure about WAW either)
And don't get me wrong, I think that what they do with COD, making virtually the same game every year and calling it "new", charging $60, is BS. However, they are making a full FPS game in 1 year.
And yes, I understand that projects can EASILY take 9 months. Especially when you have lives, which it appears the makers of this game do.
The issue I have is how much they stressed how long it has been in the making... I was just, idk, turned away from the map a little when I saw that. Once again, looks like a fantastic map. Better than Smashcraft? Do be honest I couldn't tell. Smashcraft is great, so just by saying that it has potential to be better than it is a huge compliment.
Once again, NOT ripping on the map itself AT ALL! It looks GREAT! One of the best. However, it still looks like to be ONE of the best, not THE best. I simply think the presentation was a little much. That is all. Didn't mean to offend anyone...
Yes, typically they have something to actually show after that long. Not just spamming abilities to make it look pretty. If you're going to talk about how long it took, then it had better look like it's worth it. I mean it doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look that good for almost a year of work, even for one person (as you're not doing about 75% of the total work involved).
Not trying to attack you here if it sounds like it...It might be derailing but its an interesting thought. Why be nice to a company that tries to rip off your money ever year? To heck with them.

Rip off your money every year? Do you even know that Activision doesn't make money? They are at losses. If it weren't for Blizzard, Activision Blizzard will not make money. The only reason Activision Blizzard is profitable is due to Blizzard, because it has steady income from subscription model of WoW. I attach their income statement broken down by the two subsidiaries.
Now if it's they are at a loss, how come it's a ripoff? I am saddened by your statement... Are you also saying Blizzard is ripping you off by trying to get $15 from your pocket every month?
I am really saddened... Do you even have any idea how hard it is to make money in video game industry? EA, Take Two, THQ, they are all not making money in the past few years. Plus Gamers are disgustingly cheap... always complaining about paying $60 for games. So cheap... $60 and you play for thousands of hours. Compare that to movie ticket. $15 for 90 minutes, not including the popcorn and soda.
When marketplace rumor coming in, everyone so sad because they have to pay 99c for a map... Disgustingly cheap. There's a reason why it's better to make social games for casual people and non-gamers. Like Zynga's Farmville, Cityville, Angry birds. etc etc. Because non-gamers are not cheap. They are willing to pay 99c, heck even $15 for a tractor in Farmville. Some idiot people spend $1000 a month on Farmville. Do you know that Zynga is more profitable than Activision? They booked $750 Million profit a year! Do you know that? Because non-gamers are not cheap and willing to pay!
So I don't know what anyone mean by ripping off... Go ahead and read that income statement. Look they are losing almost $100 Million! I don't know what else to say.

Great to be back and part of the community again!
Call of Duty updates their graphics, could have fooled me.
Anyways that's all I read from the previous post. But I was wondering when beta will start and if there is estimated time of release.
.... a project can easily take 9 months.... the data editor is pretty involved.
^This.
And anyway, I wouldn't mind helping out, but my availability can be kind of iffy. How strict of availability requirements are we talking here?
HAHAHAHAHA!
Sorry...I haven't seen no graphics update since Cod4.
