I'm sure some people here remember the roleplaying maps from Warcraft 3, including MRP and DoBRP back in the day. I'm currently working on resurrecting that kind of map.
I'm collaborating with several people at http://cortexrp.com/ to create a roleplaying map library that anyone can plug into their terrain and make it into a fully fledged roleplaying map. We're also working on our own roleplaying map to demonstrate the capabilities of it.
I don't have much done quite yet but it's coming along very well. Basic commands such as spawn, remove, kill, scale, are already implemented.
I'd love to hear thoughts and ideas, or even get some help if anyone's willing. :)
It's more of a library at this point, though I'm starting to think of it more as a toolkit so that anyone can just terrain a map and give it the full featureset a roleplay requires.
Someone should remake the multiplayer RPG maps like that Super Mario RPG one where you can encounter enemies in an area...
But make it so it turns into a encounter area, so only players who enters this area can participate in combat.
Then again, exp is gained via skills and participation, so people can't just jump in and take the exp.
Then again, random encounters may be doable and with the region editor, you can make "wilderness" areas and towns.
Just have it so when your hero goes into an encounter, the other players can see your hero being surrounded by a forcefield in a way. Touching that forcefield makes you join the battle.
I'll take any help I can get. Why don't you drop me a line on AIM? My SN is the same as my username here, MotiveMe. Just mention you're from Sc2Mapster.
I see that you bought a full domain name + hosting and have set up a svn on it. I doubt you are going to change but I would like to let everyone know that we have a team section that allows you to have just that:

Direct link to all the project that automatically are handled with a svn / git repo if you need
I've worked with Assembla before, so I'm just more comfortable with it (and I didn't realize this was owned by Curse, so I wasn't sure how stable it'd be long-term). By the time I have a playable map though I'm sure I'll be uploading stuff to SC2Mapster. I can't tell you just how helpful this site has been with the API documentation and other stuff. I keep a dedicated tab open for it now. :)
nice project.
i also played and even made such RPG maps for wc3.
since the new editor came out i wanted to make my new RPG map,
but i noticed very bad things...
many, or lets say, nearly all important hero functions such as Hero Revive are missing completely at the moment!
that is why i just stopped my project for a while... :-(
hopefully blizzard will add those missing functions in a new patch!
Hi everyone, I'm Diagas. I'm proud to be part of this project. We're really looking to be the first to define roleplaying in Starcraft 2. It's our goal to have a very community-driven map.
We are currently scoping out a general release of Cortex Roleplaying within a week, which will feature the basics. If you're interested in seeing what we're offering, there are topics here: http://cortexrp.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=8
We hope to have a very open dialogue with the roleplaying community. If you feel you have ideas, or concerns, please address them! That's why I am here to ask any of those who are remotely interesting in roleplaying to PLEASE register at our forums http://cortexrp.com
I gotta say I loved those maps. I don't mean to gloat, but I at one time new miyog and his fiancée iyog.
I'm currently looking thru all the native functions and getting a feel for galaxy code. I've done small things in c++ before, so working in a c based language shouldn't be to hard. I'd be glad to join the project and help out, but anyways I'll try to message you later unless you answer to this post.

That's an interesting idea... Are you creating a Library or a Mod?
It's more of a library at this point, though I'm starting to think of it more as a toolkit so that anyone can just terrain a map and give it the full featureset a roleplay requires.

I'll help you with the terrain of you're map. I'm pretty decent with making terrain, if you want to see, just look at this map I made.
I'll take any help I can get. Why don't you drop me a line on AIM? My SN is the same as my username here, MotiveMe. Just mention you're from Sc2Mapster.
Hey,
That looks very promising.
I see that you bought a full domain name + hosting and have set up a svn on it. I doubt you are going to change but I would like to let everyone know that we have a team section that allows you to have just that:
Here's an example: Team Artisan
Good luck :)
