Hey guys, me and my team are looking to create a new map for people. We have decided to ask the public what they want.
Do you want a DoTA map or Photon Tower Defence map.
We WILL take suggestions for the chosen map from you guys.
But if you guys can't come up with anything you're happy with, may as well do another TD. It'd come out around the time Squadron and Gem fall off Pg1 'cause people are sick of 'em :)
idk why the common term for an AoS or Tug 'o war map is Dota......
but anyhow; be unique. I don't like TDs to be honest, I would go for something 'Dota' but since there is Sotis up there in the popularity spotlight already....
As far as my preferences go you should make a campaign, those are fun to play and fun to make, and we don't have enough of those around.
And, as everyone said, we don't want to see another td, moba or massing game. Something fresh and unique would be most appreciated, though it would have less chances to be played on b-net. But I still would prefer if you'd make a campaign.
Ok, I have this idea for a 'unique' game. Its gonna be a dialog based game with lots of variables that affect game play, when you roll the 'dice' the number you get (1-8) will be the number of units you can spawn, then you use the terrain to micro and defeat the enemy, once the round is over, you repeat the process.

Wouldn't that just mean the person with the best luck and/or best micro always wins? You basically eliminate any overall strategy at all.
On the subject of people going "nooo not another Dota or Tower Defense...", people said the same thing about Starcraft 2 being too much like all the other classic-rts type games (or for that matter, the 15million+ players who yearly buy each Call of Duty). If you do one, just do it well and add some new elements in.
With all that said...I'd really like to see someone do a mod that makes use of data banks in more clever ways. Banks are one of the, if not the most underused element in SC2 modding.
DOTA is not my kind of maps, or any Tug of War map actually... I just hate sitting here with only a hero, doing nothing but killing mobs for an hour until things start to heat so fast that I get killed and keep losing over and over again (or crushing my enemies in a minute, if I'm in the good team). Besides, DOTA is not original at all anymore, so I'll join my fellows above and agree that DOTA is not worth your time. Unless of course you're able to find something really unique for this genre, but I think Blizzard and/or Valve are already one step or two ahead of you on that already...
However, I'm pretty sure TD maps can be worth it if, and only if, you're able to find something really REALLY unique. As an example, I remember I had much fun when I saw the first TD map where you had to generate energy for your towers to work. Same goes the first time I saw a TD map where creating a maze was mandatory to win... And so on... There are lots of these maps now, but if you are able to make something completely new, which can be a source of inspiration for other map makers, then YES I'd probably be interested in a TD map.
Even knowing that, I still have to agree with other members here: DOTA and TD maps are getting boring, whatever you do with them. Even if you find a nice idea, people will get bored because there are so many maps of that kind already (bad ones, by the way)... We'd all rather see something simple but unique, and I'm pretty sure that's why Star Battle have had so much success since it came out.

@Cybrok: Go
I want something creative and interesting. In other words, not a DotA or Photon Defense map.
Yea, exactly what he said. You should turn this into a poll.
@Nebuli2: Go
100% exactly that.
What we desperately need now is UNIQUENESS. So neither :D
I agree with everyone else. Spend your time to create something new, not the 7283th tower defense map.
A worthy Aeon of Strife.
Also voting for "something different".

You really want to make a dota?
You really want to make unique to the point it's not dota?
Make a 4 faction all out war on 4 points of the map. Make it a 3v3v3v3.
Then whenever a team gets destroyed the losers joins the other teams randomly with 1 random player per team. A 4v4v4.
When another player gets destroyed, the losers join but to balance out the player count per team again, thus becomes a 6v6.
Winner ends up assimilating everything else.

Posts like this worry me. Go for the thing where you have the most inspiration and motivation to create a great map. Don't just "make" something.
