Don't feel like paying 20 bucks for it, so somebody might as well build it.
Anybody working on something like this? If not, does anybody think this would be even possible? As far as I know sc2 operates in a 2-d engine with 3d graphics (meaning it's not intended for any kind of platforming in the 3rd dimension)
Possible... sort of ( front page theres a video that supports 3d space blocks) but.. dude $20 for minecraft.. is beyond worth it... dont be a panzy =P (and if you woulda bought it two days ago.. it was buy one get one free)

LOL there you go. im so mad.. I wish people who already bought it got a free one... I actually want another copy to give to my GF (the real reason for the promotion to begin with ahah)
But, yeah... using the demo on the front page news.. it could be "possible"

Well, thought it dont quite "look" like minecraft (you are not placing blocks) I am working on a map based off of minecraft, just recently added a small food system, actually. It isn't too bad for alpha stages, considering, but yeah, mainly only inventory, food, and health/damage/armor is the same, otherwise you "build" buildings that typically look the same (Some are randomzed models, so all houses are not the same) and you sorta "spawn" guys at houses... Take a look if you want. You may be interested in watching it go though its alpha stage and into beta.
This could be stupidest thing I have ever said, but here it goes anyways.
Flip the axis. Y becomes Z. Z becomes Y. X is.. well... Still X.
X still has no limits, being as it stays the same. But now the Z axis has limitations equal to that of Y. So, a lot. 256, actually.
The only problem would be the Y axis, which is now limited to the limitations of the Z axis. So what you could do, is have multiple skyboxes set up perpendicular to the terrain. Then you move across them.
And what do you have? A system that is significantly more complex than the original, and doesn't really get you anywhere. I told you it was stupid, your fault for not listening to me.

Hah, I remember writing this thread... It's probably not possible, I'm afraid ^.^

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
Wait. Wouldn't you just need square models, and 16x16 textures? Besides, I could see the blocks being placed like ordinary buildings, and placing blocks on top of blocks (Right clicking a building.... idk what to do about what face of the building you select though.) It makes another one but the height is off a little bit? Idk. Something like that o-o.
But about Minecraft in Starcraft: Banelings = Creepers?

Yes. How plausible would this be? :D

If you search 'Minecraft' on eu you get a me where you can fire blocks and then paint them... but that's all.
@GoldBurst: Go
Anybody think this is even possible? Is there any way to allow for platforming in sc2?
Ironically I've tried it a few weeks ago, but it lags horrible and it stop generating a map at nearly 80k blocks.

Why not make Terraria? It would be more simple :)
Minecraft is only fun when playing with friends anyways.

I actually did buy it yesterday and I did get the 2-for one. I'd still love to see it in sc2 :D

I see three ways:
1. using physics objects
2. using terrain modifiers
3. build everything on triggers
Any of these approaches could visually and maybe functionally imitate minecraftish style.
(never played it though, just saw stuff made of cubes)
