Hey guys, i just switched from the warcraft 3 editor to the starcraft 2 and started a personal project. It involves making a campaign trilogy. First i would like to focus on the Terran campaign since thats the clasic everyone starts with.
The story is kind of made on the way, nothing big planed before hand since my imagination can't quite capture what my story would actually develop into.
I've attached the current first map. Its about 75% done. I started making it from blizzards tutorials since the starcraft 2 editor is much more complex and its kind of giving me a hard time.
Have you check out the Custom Campaign Initiative? Have you looked at the wiki?
We have some resources there(CCI) to help you in making your campaign, e.g. DeltronLive has done video tutorials using the Blizzard guides that use the current editor.
The best way to get people to play your map is to play other people's maps! Leave lots of feedback, critiques, questions, etc and people will for sure help you out. I will try and play your map this weekend as I am sure others will, but if they know you have played their map they will for sure help you out.
Sometimes threads get buried in the stacks so be sure to bump yours if you got questions or concerns. Don't bash your head against the editor for too long!! We probably already figured out how to fix whatever issues you are having. Just be sure to post code snippets and make your question clear.
I highly recommend you look at Blizzard campaign maps. Not only their gameplay and terrain but also how they structure triggers. Try to give your campaign something that will separate it from the others. We currently live in a golden age of SC2 campaign making and there are dozens of them, a lot of them are pretty good.
Thanks for the info, i'll try to make the triggers more separate from now on. Starcraft 2 triggers seem more easy and fun to use, so i can arrange them better.
Sadly i'd have to redo them from scratch on the first map if i want them separated, so i'll start doing this from the second instalment.
By the way, HUGE fan of your work OutsideXE, you are a god among map makers ! :)
First I want to say welcome to the custom campaign world =D. I have tested the map out a bit. I like the terraining. It has like a warcraft 3 feeling over it, in my opinion =).
So after I got the objective about investigating the south colony, I didn´t do that instead I went west and killed the nydus worm, and it kinf of screw that objective up =/. So perhaps make it so that the player won´t be able to go there before checking out the colony?
Also the civilian told me they would come but no one followed me. Perhaps that is not implemated yet?
I for one like to deselect units during the cinematics. No big thing =) Also another border color for the hero and subnr would be good.
The objectives seems interesting so good job. I will continue checking it out to night.
I did some modifications regarding the nydus worm west of the colony, there shouldn't be a problem anymore.
Regarding the hero border. I have no idea how to change that.
A new test build is uploaded now. Will a little bit of luck, with no more errors on my side.
Taken care of ! Now i just have to deal with the hero's life bar. Didn't quite find where i can deactivate it from being shown even if the player has the Always Show Life Bars activated.
On other note, the first map is in its final stages.
I'm happy to announce that the first mission of the Terran Campaign instalment is on its first release state, so check that out at your first convenience! :)
Damn! You got some skills! Looking forward to playing the missions.
I put your campaign up on the news section of the CCI. Be sure to check out other people's campaigns and leave feedback...probably get some cool ideas too!!
Visit my channel where I showcase custom content! Send me a PM or respond to my YouTube thread if you'd like to see your map/s on my channel (eventually!)
I already pretty much played through most of the campaigns before starting this project. I'll start leaving feedback when i run out of ideas, cause i'm kind of working like a madman and not doing anything else :D
Just played through the first mission and made a video commentary. Overall not bad. It's funny that you say that the game "takes place in a parallel world from the Starcraft 2 Universe" yet you still reference the Dominion, Zerg and other SC2 Universe things. I also did a video commentary, I'll post here when it's done uploading.
Hi, well i though that i could use some of the events in the original setting for my story. Just because its a parallel world doesn't mean that some events of the original story did not occur here. I only reference to some of them. Zerg, Dominion, Tal'darim for example are not like in the original. In my story, Kerrigan does not exist. The Dominion is not lead by Mengsk and the Tal'darim are not evil god worshipping zombies (still evil though). My story has yet to be released. I will do so with each passing mission. For example, on my project page i'll progressively add character backstories and more on the Story So Far section!
On second thought. I can't wait to the see your video! :)
So... I might have rushed some things. First of all, i will not make the campaign easy, just one strict difficulty that's gonna be normal to hard, so congrats on actually clearing the level. Regarding the polishes you were talking about, i need to work on the writing. That is one of my weaker points. I'm a very good English speaker, just not the best English writer, so any encountered typos would be best reported and i will correct them as soon as possible.
On second note, I am almost finished with the campaign mod and will continue working on the second maps triggers. I'm planning on making them much better than on the first map, especially on the timing parts.
I also want to make some quick changes on the first map, since some of the features did not go as planned, hence forward the Engine that you did not pick up because it was "Rotang only". And i really need to put that press any key to continue stuff.

Regarding the color, just search for "color" in the units actor, there you should be able to choose color for your border.

As suggested by Bilxor in his video review. A few changes have been made in the first map:
- dialogue - triggers - functionality
Version 1.2 of the LimpidC01M01 will be released this following week-end.
