We're 6 months away from the election of a new president in the US, and both Russia and France elected their new president just a few days ago... I live in France myself, and I've always wondered what the public image of our president(s) could be in other countries. Just a reminder, if politics are taboo around here (just like topics about religion and such), simply remove/lock the thread... I don't care that much about it. I just thought it would be interesting to hear an external point-of-view about what you guys think of a president who isn't yours. To be honest I couldn't care less about the 2 guys I had to decide between this year, so I don't care if you blame them both for being international assholes! :D
Of course the thread can also be used to talk about the president of your country or any other president/political figure you'd like to talk about, though the main purpose isn't to discuss politics so-to-speak but rather tell your opinion about the public image of the (wo)men governing us. What do you think these leaders can do to put an end to the current crisis? What do you like (or don't) about them? What do you think will change in 2012 and the next 5 years to come, with these (wo)men in charge?
First off I feel like I should say: politicians = corrupted assholes.
rarely hear anything from them that really matters.
system doesnt work! voting...so outdated. They should make tests for politicians. How can they make right decisions if they dont know how the world and stuff works. Yes politicians like to promises that they wont keep and such...this should stop already!
I was expecting Euro to fall in 2012, now Im a bit doubtfull of it actually (I stated in some thread too). Im not sure how the euro system or EU will ever work, since it doesnt seem to be democratic. Rich people shove their ideas to every other country to ensure their well being, and the laws...situations arent the same for every country, so general laws usually dont work out so well.
Well atleast its interesting to see when shit really starts going down. I would expect countries to run out of money with their generous give aways for unemplyed and such. Society has fallen back in so many ways (schools come first in mind).
I like to rant about how miserable everything is. Politicians are evil!
Mexicans mass debating about presidential erections.
Your point? Quite honestly she was just handing out the papers to choose the order of who starts the reporter even says that, didn't see anything wrong with that. Never been a fan of single-video posts as they don't contribute anything so... whatever.
On topic, U.S. elections have been a joke this year. Last elections were a little more epic and you could kind of feel the rush. And about russian elections, I really liked that putin won, I like putin, he's awesome and I know nothing about france :P but hey at least they're making themselves a joke in these elections like the U.S.
I think non of them have any real clue whats going on in the economies...
2012 will see more left and right and so more fascism, more racism and more chaos. Just watch Greece as they are in the economic fore front.
US elections: Romney is even worse than Obama. Ron Paul would never be able to pass any laws....
I can imagine anything for the next 5 years. Worst is Global war, best is localized small competing direct democracies without fucking retarded "leaders".
France... I dunno, he acts like he wants to revert france about 30 years from what I have read about him
Obummer, has switched on Gay marriage like 8 times... so hes an idiot... he gloats about osama and gets nothing done... nothing important, WOOHOO he killed a retired Commander of the taliban, about the same if they took out Clinton.... lol no real effect...
Mitt.... he Definatly corrupt. but least he admits to it... he seems like he could fix the war and economy without communism... but i dont like his stances on the MPAA and RIAA,
SO ALL IN ALL VOTE INDEPENDENT...
Oh and did you guys hear NC's constitution has a ban on Gay marriage, meaning it will be hard for them to actually change that now... kinda glad... Im not homophobic... I just dont like gay people... im not scared of them... lol
I think non of them have any real clue whats going on in the economies...
2012 will see more left and right and so more fascism, more racism and more chaos. Just watch Greece as they are in the economic fore front.
Funny I could've said that about you just by that comment :P
Nothing wrong with Racism, Its human nature to feel superior to those different,
Whats wrong is peoples inability to control themselves and then they cause violence, If people could control themselves, Then Adultery, Racism, Murder, Rape, Stealing, and sinning in general, would all cease to exist, and we would have a perfect world,
no more greed... no more corruption, but no one can control themselves anymore, Not even Me, not you, not anyone on this earth... not even the silent monks. everyone does something wrong on a daily basis.
Just because no one can control themselves perfectly, does not make it alright.
I personally think racism is wrong. It is not human nature to feel superior to people who are different. We are born without hate towards people who are different. Some people are then raised in a way that causes them to embrace racism. Maybe their parents were racist, or they have had bad experiences with people around them. It doesn't mean they can just say: "Hey, I'm racist, but it's okay because it's human nature."
When it comes to homosexuals, I have to admit I can sometimes feel uncomfortable with them. However, I'll never ever deny them the same rights as everyone else, especially not when it comes to love.
As for the elections:
I'm not up to date with the french elections.
Putin seems like a ruthless badass.
In the American elections, I feel like all the republican politicians and moronic. If I lived in the USA, I would never vote for them with their current values. I feel like Obama is doing a decent job under the circumstances and there are logical explanations for some of the more controversial things he's done that he often receives criticism for(NDAA etc)
Yeah, Just imagine if Obama would be George W Bush'es puppy, and he would increase presidential term from 4 to 6 years and let Bush to be elected again for 6 years by corrupting elections. Putin did all this here. So, USA and Europe are just fine. You have no totalitarism.
But actually, Russians are angry about Putin, there are protest movements in Moscow last few days, hundreds of people are getting arrested every day, but it doesn't decrease their amount. Some cops refuse to arrest protestants, and they are getting arrested too. So, there is a little chance, that Putin will fall. Hope it will happen, because totalitarism suck. He's scared, he's releasing unbeliavable amounts of cops, which can be seen on a picture. His fall will rise local political storms, which may affect Europe just slightly.
How exactly is Obama 'screwing over the public'? His administration is... slow, and tedious, but at least it's moving in the right direction. Republicans haven't had a president in the last 20, 30 or perhaps even 40 years that took the right path. Obama definitely isn't ideal, but I'm still glad he's in charge right now instead of another Bush. If Romney becomes president, I sincerely fear for what will happen to the world during his reign. If he manages to not start WW3, he's definitely going to indirectly kill millions of people. Either that or he'll make no major decisions at all.
As for Hollande... I'm glad you guys FINALLY got rid of Sarkozy. His own politics, judging from Wikipedia, actually make him seem like a pretty decent choice. At least he's not against gay marriage, which makes him a better man than most of his colleagues. This could go fairly well, will have to keep an eye out. You guys did disappoint me not long ago, though. The news said France was instigating a rule that forced video networks to give all presidentials the same amount of airtime, which I considered possibly the best democratic move any country has made since the US' independence war. Upon looking into the case however, it seems they were talking about the time a presidential candidate joining in on a TV debate gets to make his point. Which basically makes the rule useless.
In regards to the politics in my own country... I'd rate them a 7/10. As far as politics go (which is not far, because they suck bollocks when it comes to anything important ever), we're still doing a fairly good job here in Holland. It's one of the most liveable countries in Europe, if not the world, and I think only Scandinavia beats us on that (and perhaps Canada). We are going downhill though, as a politician named 'Geert Wilders' (basically a nazi) is gaining a pretty decent foothold through the same campaigning bullshit that's been wavering over from the US.
On another note, this should be a mandatory read for anyone from the US looking to join in on the discussion.

Given the US' history, wouldn't this be a deterrant? Regardless, how is this different from any other president you've had in the last 30-200 years? See the article I linked. Edit: I mean to say all candidates abuse useless features to gain their power, I don't want to insinuate every American president ever was black, obviously >.>

As far as the first one goes, I thought Obama kept himself fairly distanced from the whole deal? I barely heard his name mentioned in the discussions surrounding it. I can't speak for the second one as I don't know much about it, but... what's wrong with the third? There is so much irrational hatred for that in the US.
Taxes have been raised Unemployment has raised, 4.1 million jobs created he says... 6.1 million lost he doesnt say.
Taxes raised - sure. What else did you expect? D'you think they're gonna drop with another candidate AND your country's going to remain operational and succesful? As for unemployment... what exactly is Obama supposed to do aside from keeping the existing economy running where he can, and how could other presidents have done a better job at it?
He constantly acts like osama dying was the greatest thing anyone could ever do... but then again osama was already retired.... so that didnt even matter.

The rest of my text about Romney and such wasn't specifically aimed at you - those were just general thoughts on the matter. But yeah... the US is ballsed when it comes to leadership.
Obama is a figure head, That is all, I just plain dont like him... Mainly because the house and the senate are controlled by Democrats, and the Supreme court.... we need one person to slow down this stupid shit until we can get someone worth a fuck in the house.
The only thing I think you were completely wrong on was the link, no so much cause it was wrong, but because that was only for one year. lol. Thats for 2010, When he got in the Debt was at 9.4 Trillion... now its at 15 trillion
Sarkozy reminded me to Hitler. Even though I am Hungarian.
I dont know much about Hollande, but I think he will be just another puppet.
I agree about Hollande, but I don't see how Sarkozy is even remotely close to being Hitler. Sarkozy has done terrible things (which I personally think were liberty killers), but there's no comparison with Hitler. And I honestly don't think any president would have done better, given the circumstances.
Which is pretty much my opinion about Obama as well, maybe people from the US disagree about what he does, but I don't think he's worse than any other candidate. I actually like the guy, though he's probably not as "clean" as he pretends to be, I'm pretty sure he has done great things for the US in these times of crisis. I'd rather see him elected once again, rather than any other candidate.
I can imagine anything for the next 5 years. Worst is Global war, best is localized small competing direct democracies without fucking retarded "leaders".
I don't think we're heading towards global war. We're all in it so deeply we have other matters to deal with, and we NEED to join our efforts. If any solution is found to the current events, I think it can only come from unity, not dividing ourselves. Politicians may be complete douchebags from time to time, but they're not stupid. They'll do anything they can to prevent another global war. Of course we're just in the early years of a huge crisis, but as far as I can tell I don't remember hearing any president in favor of division, exclusion, and/or war to put an end to the crisis.
Europe is helping Greece even though the entire country is falling apart and civil war is coming. Spain is not looking good either, but I don't think we should put an end to the EU. I wouldn't be surprised though if capitalism has to end in the next years to come. Like any ideology, I think it's not supposed to last forever. Maybe it's time we let it go, before it makes the entire world collapse (third-world included). I'd rather completely change our business models rather than divide the Europe and hope the crisis will just go away by itself...
Ha! Thought so! I never really liked the guy... He's sooooo obviously linked to the mafia and corruption. He was way too confident in his election, there was something really odd about how (even here in France) TV news were already sure he was going to be president once again. I'm not entirely up to date with the situation in Russia, but one thing I know for sure is that Putin is corrupted and it would be better for Russia if he was never again the leader of this country.
I feel weird about Russia actually, we barely hear from this country in the news around here, which is usually a sign that things are going so terribly wrong they'd better not talk about it. It reminds me of Fukushima by the way, we've heard about it for weeks but now everyone is mute... The problem is getting worth every day but they're trying to make us think there's nothing to worry about.
As for Hollande... I'm glad you guys FINALLY got rid of Sarkozy.
...and so are we! :D
The (not so) funny part about him though is that, during 5 years, people were all complaining about what he did. IMHO he just went wild, like a child in a playground... Then a few days ago, he scored 48%. French people make me sick sometimes, in times like these you realize they can't be trusted. They blamed Sarkozy for years, but when it comes to kick him out, half of them decided he should stay... I don't like Hollande that much but let's be honest, there is no way I'd vote for a president once again after he left us in such a mess. Sarkozy is one of the reasons I'm leaving France for another country.
I'll probably have to check a few sources about this, because I'm not really sure what happened. The TV debates were indeed limited to a certain amount of time per candidate, but I'm not sure if medias like internet or newspapers actually had any kind of restriction.
We're 6 months away from the election of a new president in the US, and both Russia and France elected their new president just a few days ago... Obama is scumbag filp-floper Stalinist lier.
Putin is like a Godfather of a mafia, but at least he is not a puppet. (Better than the Berlusconi who was the mafia's puppet)
Cameron is a puppet of the London's Banker Elit.
Merkel is an interesting woman. I really cant figure him out. Even though he finished university in physics, he seems close minded or he is flip-floping...
Mario Monti puppet of Goldman Sachs.
José Manuel Barroso, Herman Van Rompuy, Martin Schulz delusional unelected dictators.
Hu Jintao he is playing the cards well even though he is a communist. (However it seems he wont be president for much longer...)

Ha!
The problem is getting worth every day but they're trying to make us think there's nothing to worry about.
...and so are we! :D The (not so) funny part about him though is that, during 5 years, people were all complaining about what he did.
I'll probably have to check a few sources about this, because I'm not really sure what happened. The TV debates were indeed limited to a certain amount of time per candidate, but I'm not sure if medias like internet or newspapers actually had any kind of restriction.
That's also what I heard... :)
