Error 37 means there is no room left for you. The servers right now are down, or have a very low player cap. They'll be bringing more servers online soon.
I managed to get through about 1 and a half times with my witch doctor, but now it's down.
Same. I found the best way to get in is to copy and paste your password loads of times. Also, private games seem to be malfunctioning (error 3006).
I'm having mixed feeling with it upon playing it :P I'm definitely buying it, but everything seems dumbed down... we were seeing that with alevice earlier. Part of what annoyed me the most is that you cannot choose...anything at all :P everything just levels up automatically cannot choose stat points or skills you want. You're basically just killing monsters and done :P
But this is probably just the beta and I still haven't gone so far ahead to start using crazy stuff like runes which I have NO idea what they are. I'm basically out of D3 and have no interest in learning about it since it'll just ruin it for me when the real thing comes ;o
But yes, it's awesomely fast paced. People can actually join your games *stares at PoE* and I kinda got lost when out of the sudden I had basically all quests done but that's just me being stupid and getting confused and probably didn't help that alevice had already done the quest we were doing with another friend :P
I was being a bitch with the art direction, not supporting things modern games have like "normal maps" and things like so but I just figured it's just a completely different direction. Game was aimed, rather than being glossy, shiny and realistic, was aimed to look like a painting. Everything looks like an oil painting of sorts and, I'm sorry haters, but that just creates beautiful scenes :P
Game can definetely get the ambience better, though, so far I've not felt "nervous" when entering a dungeon, thing that I did feel when entering some dungeons on Path of Exile, but that's okay, it's a game I don't want to get a heart attack but can be better, just saying.
So TL;DR, Art's okay which had me worried, everything IS dumb meaning you cannot choose stats or skills you just level up and everything's auto, it's fast, submerssive, addictive and will definitely buy it for sure. Probably even going to pre-order the thing when I get paid next month :P
I don't even want to keep on playing it since it'll just ruin it for me when it comes out but I WILL that's how awesome I feel it right now :P
It is beautifully done, by far the most amazing graphics I have seen in any game to date, that completely fit the feel of Diablo. Haters gonna hate and haters couldn't design their way out of a cardboard box.
I like the aspect that you are basically auto-levelling your skills. In Diablo II people only maxed like 2-3 skills anyways, with the introduction of Synergies, you created 1 hero per skill. Like, you created a Hydra Sorc, and she did nothing else. Or a Blizzard Sorc, right? Hammerdin anyone?
Now, you don't have to remake your hero if you want to change up your abilities, that is good ... that along with the fast action gameplay makes it feel and play a lot more like Tofu than Diablo II. Like it basically crossed the line between RPG and has moved onto like a Hero Arena game with just an RPG thrown in there so you can learn the heroes and get some good items.
Runs have now almost been turned into Raid Instances.
They said the more you run a specific Creep, the less it will drop. That is utterly and completely the most fucked up design decision ever. The whole point of Diablo was the items, you can argue it is the story, but after doing the story half a dozen times, do you stay and watch every cutscene, do you explore every nook and cranny? No, you skip skip skip skip gimme items NAO!
The cutscene in the first boss (Skeleton King) is as annoying as all fuck, it gets skipped everygame but still adds like near 5-8 seconds of wait time. That is bad design.
In Diablo II people were running bots, so to accomodate this they did two things; they created longer instances (to the point where it was stupid long for anyone not using a bot and teleporting - remember, bots teleport to the correct location, making it longer only adds a few seconds to the bots but near 5 mins to regular players) ... and they reduced drops.
They reduced drops so much (Meph + Pindle) that normal players could not get any items. Seriously ... the only way you could get items is to run a bloody bot ... so what did normal people start doing? Supporting the dupers and bot runners because they couldn't play the game. I use to run Meph faster than any bot, and I would constantly get kicked and banned from joining games because I was too fast ... and I am sitting at my bloody computer with my hand on my mouse. Doing 1 week (40 hours) of constant Meph runs in Hell with insanely high MF to get shit fuck all after the Patch was introduced? Yeah ... I suddenly remembered why I stopped playing Diablo II ... cause you know, dupers gonna dupe and they dupe a lot.
If you are making instances longer now (Diablo 3), and more like raiding, where it takes more than 20 secs to run a boss, I expect a fuckload better drops.
Mephisto wasn't as good for getting items as Baal. Mephisto is too low of a level to drop the very valuable items. Also you could avoid lockouts usually when doing Baal runs instead of Mephisto. Botting was one method of getting wealthy but you could easily accumulate a lot of wealth through legitimate play. Also Diablo 3 won't be about farming bosses, Blizzard has said many times that bosses aren't as good for finding gear as rare mobs. You will play a larger portion of the game and generally have higher replayability through this decision. It's a good thing. I also don't get how bosses are supposed to be like Raids. How? All of them are soloable.
No kidding my favorite was the fucking health system, OMG it was amazing. The way it flowed with the gameplay, it makes you kill stuff to gain health, Genius to say the least, It is defiantly "Blizzard" quality which is always the highest of any other game company.
But this is probably just the beta and I still haven't gone so far ahead to start using crazy stuff like runes which I have NO idea what they are.
Runes are just like a spell buff. Once you unlock them, (same way as skills, a mere level requeriment) they can grant extra shit to your spells, like maybe extra damage on your sigenature attack and shit. Its nothing too notable at this phase of the game tbh.
It is beautifully done, by far the most amazing graphics I have seen in any game to date, that completely fit the feel of Diablo. Haters gonna hate and haters couldn't design their way out of a cardboard box.
What? You don't actually like those totally blured and washed out graphics, do you?
Interesting link Hobrow. I have to say I do think I like the filter better. It kind of A) removes the feeling that someone slit a plastic bag over my monitor and B) really sharpens edges to allow me to more easily see what objects are where and all. I will bookmark that thread.
I mean't the combat, it is a lot more action packed, which I presume WoW raids are like, the Boss combat in Diablo II was very stale, there was not much to the fighting, not much evasing etc. It was quite boring, just aim shoot and kill. Baal was the most boring one of them all.
Meph was good for constant high speed runs to return High level gear (though not the top tier), the speed of Meph runs before they Patched the game with low drops, meant you could make more from Meph than Baal. It was only after the Patch that everyone started doing Baal runs - this includes when they patched the cow level, no more level 1-70 in a few hours, because you could actually level off of Baal.
Yeah, that honestly made it feel quite a bit like Tofu ... and when I say that, I am by no means saying they copied us because its obvious they didn't, but I am happy that at least we had a few large closed betas so that when Tofu is released people can't say we copied D3 ... great minds think alike and that is probably the greatest compliment that Dry and I could ever receive (the fact that we had similar ideas for gameplay in totally different games). It is safe to say that I absolutely love Diablo III and the way they have set everything out.
I have two industry grade 27" screens and the game looks amazing. Diablo III comes with built in calibration under the options menu, where you can adjust your gamma to your liking, however I must say that whilst I use calibrated screens, when I play Diablo III, I automatically disable calibration because it is better to play games on.
Screenshot view at 100%, there is no blur.
And in case your were curious, the above is a screenshot whilst calibrated to industry standards.
Below is the same screenshot I edited on my second monitor (while calibrated) to match my first monitor (uncalibrated) whilst playing. Yeah, there is actually quite a big difference between calibration and native contrast. So you can look at the image below (especially if your screen is calibrated) and you can see what I see. I <3 my monitors.
Btw the calibration image, both in game (whilst as mentioned above, technically uncalibrated but on an industry screen) and while viewing it through calibration, I am precisely calibrated, I can clearly see differences between each box.
I think my computer is shitty and fragmented as hell. The game was relatively smooth once the game was fully installed. I really enjoyed playing the Witch Doctor. Great game. Props
Level 13 Barb, 13 Demon Hunter, 10 Witch Doctor, 10 Monk, 10 Wizard, 11 Barbarian(yea, 2 of them), Got the blacksmith to level 3, was just short of the last upgrade to get to level 4.
My class thoughts.
Pre beta Faves: in order, most to least. Demon Hunter, Barbarian, Wizard, Witch Doctor, Monk.
Barbarian : seemed really strong against groups of stuff, could just obliterate entire groups with Cleave+Exploding Rune. Rend+Range Increase Rune... deadly combo when surrounded from every angle. Shockwave and Pillar of the Ancients... meh. Bash is a no go overall. LOVE Ancient Spear. Fury system is great, plays well into the character. Leap attack and Ancient Spear gives a nice amount of fury for a quick Rend or Shockwave. Remains 2nd Fave.
Demon Hunter : Started off weak, but quickly escalates into a bringer of pain. Chakram is amazing, Rapid Fire without the Cost reduction rune was just... not feasible. Hungering Arrow once you get 2 hand crossbows tears everything to bits. Vault's great for dodging and getting around. Discipline/Hatred system is also great, Smoke Screen seems like a great utility, but costs too much Discipline for 2 seconds... just Vault away instead. Remains 1st Fave.
Monk : Saw my friend playing one and I thought it seemed rather cool, so I made one next game. Seems like a mostly support-type class, with Breath of Heaven(Heal) and Blinding Flash, even his abilities with Runes seemed entirely too weak compared to Barbarian and Demon Hunter. Felt weak through most of the playthrough... only class I came close to dying with, in a 1 player game no less... Note to self: Do not play a Monk on Hardcore. His charge/run ability is just ridiculous(as in stupid/useless). Having that much Spirit at first seemed like a good thing, but all the Spirit Costing abilities require entirely too much Spirit. Takes too long to fill it up from Empty. Still remains in last place.
Wizard : Weak as hell until you can find a good weapon to boost your abilities. Good weapon + Arcane Orb = meat paste and bone dust. Shock Pulse with the first exploding rune turns the Wizard into a veritable point-blank 1hit killer of groups, as long as 1 dies, they should all die. Cannot see myself devoting a skill slot to Diamond Skin... I hate recasting short buffs all the time on ANY game. I'd accept less effect for longer duration. Wave of Force, only really used it to destroy rooms with jars. If surrounded, just Frost Nova & Shock Pulse/Arcane Orb the mobs into Ice Cubes. Arcane Energy system seemed balanced, though I thought(just a few times) that Arcane Orb cost a bit much. Remains 3rd-ish place overall.
Witch Doctor : As I first played the WD I wasn't sure what to think. Slow start, Zombie Dogs didn't really seem to do much. Corpse Spiders... didn't really like it, other than the fact it LOOKED awesome. Firebats drains entirely too much mana for the short range that it gets. If I had gotten to level 11 and unlocked the rune for it, I'm sure I would have liked it a bit more(longer range, more damage, fewer bats). Poison Dart didn't really like it until I unlocked the Triple Dart rune. Pwnage city with Triple Dart and a good DPS weapon. Soul Harvest! Gain X intelligence per enemy(up to 5 enemies) for 30 seconds. Could see some real use for this and Firebats. It adds an INSANE amount of Maximum Mana for 30 seconds. Grasp of the Dead is good only because it has such a large area of effect. Great crowd control. Mana regenerates fast enough overall, like I said, Firebats was the only problem with it. I can see the Witch Doctor becoming more powerful as you go on, so that's a plus in my book. Also, not as weak as the Monk. One thing I did not like about the Witch Doctor(I made a male WD) when standing around, it looks like he has the shakes and should go see a doctor. I just kept laughing... Give that WD some Diazepam damnit! Brought this from 4th fave and tied it with the Wizard.
In Short: Monk is weak and sucks. Demon Hunter and Barbarian are power houses, Wizard and Witch Doctor will likely be power houses later on in their "career".
The prospect of being a Super Saiyan Barbarian makes me laugh, in both a good way and a bad way.

I wanted to play the monk, but just got the feeling it is indeed too weak and has some anoying issues.
Dashing strike, evey other class can blink/teleport to certain point, but dashing strike can only hit enemies....just ruins the ability
And spirit costs are indeed stupid. Most skills cost tons of spirit and then you got all sorts of running around abilities that cost spirit = not enough spirit and not really a feeling you want to get.
Monk is probly a good class with the dodge and all, but it just didnt feel right for me.
I do not direct the rest of this post at you, Neonsz.
At the core, it is still Diablo.
Graphics are different, skill trees(...) are different, no need to waste time figuring out the exact dexterity I need to get more block, or Strength minimum needed to use a weapon...
It is still Diablo, and people who say it's been toned down for the masses are just people who want to play Diablo 2 over and over, even after 12 years.
Cartoony graphics? They are better than Diablo 2, which was WAY more cartoonier than Diablo 1. Sure, some of the edges are a bit blurry, but you should just install the graphics filter which doesn't change Diablo 3 in anyway. It doesn't modify the exe or anything. It makes a difference yes, but not enough to go say the default graphics are bad in any way. Personally, I have a great Samsung TV and didn't feel I needed the filter, except maybe in the cathedral with all that orange...
Games(and it's series) evolve. Just look at the Final Fantasy series. And they're still making them after 20+ years.
