I never understood why Easter is celebrated so highly among people. I thought it was just go to church and then give your kids an easter basket or easter egg hunt and you're done. Like a day version of Halloween.
Because for thousands of years the ancient Jews celebrated their Passover on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter.) Christians believe that Christ's death transformed the Passover to something with a new and deeper meaning. It's basically the day that Christ gained victory over death by rising from the grave in glory. The link I gave pretty much explains it all.
The eggs and stuff I'm not really sure. I heard that the egg symbolizes Christ. I also heard that the bunnies and egg stuff was based on some pagan holiday. Personally, I don't really care much about the eggs or bunnies... for me it's mostly about Jesus. But to each his own, I suppose. The kids like them.

Most likely. Half the rituals we still celebrate today are based on those, i.e. christmas trees.

I think the Egg is supposed to symbolise new life, but really, we all know its about the chocolate eggs

I don't believe in any kind of god. I do however like chocolate eggs and holidays.
Same here :) Need to go to the dentist though, my chocolate eggs will have to stay in the fridge for now >.>

Oh, and not everyone celebrates easter on the same day. If I remember right, the eastren church celebrate it a week after passover.
