@nevjmac
Probably the best way to go about listening to music really,
If you get past the idea that you only like one genre, you can find you'll like many, many different styles of music.
Yea definitely, music can be the party starter, the mood filler. It's amazing how music has evolved when you think about it, Music was a huge part of my upbringing and I value it strongly.
I edited my post with a few examples of what I mean by genres :)

True, though it's also a bit of 'evolution'. I started off as a pure Blink 182 fan, delved into similar bands like Sum 41, then stepped over to metal - the standard 'hard' stuff at first (Metallica & System of a Down into Slayer & Children of Bodom), then the more melodic stuff (Power metal; Sonata Arctica at first, then Finntroll, lateron Blind Guardian). I had a small stop at what I've dubbed 'good rap' (Cunning Lynguists & Fort Minor) and another one at punk (Anti-Flag first, then harder stuff like A Wilhelm Scream - also Mindless Self Indulgence). One last small stop made me a huge electronics/house fan (Daft Punk, Gnarls Barkley and Ratatat) before going into pure ska (Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones into Manu Chao), from which I 'emerged' listening to more 'hardcore' ska (Streetlight Manifesto & The Flatliners).
After that I kind of stopped going from genre to genre and that 'history' is kind of the cause that I'm listening to stuff like Enter Shikari (Post-Hardcore Punk), Bob Marley, Jack Parow (South-African rap), Alestorm (Pirate metal) and Skrillex (Dubstep) right now, all next to eachother. It kind of amuses me myself that I am able to listen or have listened to an artist belonging to literally every/any musical genre the average person can name. Classical music, aside from some pieces by Bach, might really be the only exception.
Yeah I've pretty much gone through a similar development (listening to one type of music dedicated and then branching out).
I used to pretty much only listen to rock (linkin park, three doors down, etc.) until I started getting satellite radio - from here I began listening to more nu metal and mainstream metal (all that remains, disturbed, etc.). It wasn't until I discovered the band Tool that I really started panning out musically though, at least after the period of obsession where I pretty much only listened to Tool. A combination of video game remixes and the more ambient Tool songs got me interested in many genres of electronica (mainly dubstep, glitch and some minimal) while the more complicated Tool songs got me into math rock and alt metal (Giraffes?Giraffes!, Animals as Leaders, etc. etc.). Now I'll pretty much listen to things from any style, though I often find myself preferring the more creative/non-traditional genres.
But yeah it is kinda weird when I go from listening to this:
This song hits home for me. I get teary eyed almost every time while listening to this song.
but my fave song at the moment, kinda hard to choose. Here's a good one I like to listen to everytime I play some tunes.
I could listen to this one all day aswell.
and my last link.
My fave style of music would be any Gothic/Black Metal and it's sub-genres. Like Cradle of Filth, Kekal, Lucifer, Chronzon, D.D.T, Candlemass, Shadows Fall, Kalmah, Devildriver, Hatebreed, and many more.
Also, I tend to like songs with a good beat to it, and isn't massively repetitive (Which means I love most metal songs, and hate rap and RnB). So bands like Trivium and Metallica I like, but also stuff like Owl City if i'm in the mood for it (No real beat, but it's nice relaxing stuff). Although I don't really like metal songs which are basically screaming over a thrash metal track :/.
Pretty self explanatory thread, what's your favorite song at the point of posting?
Probably this song since I just got done watching the series.
Weird monsters, guns, explosions, and trendy haircuts. That's anime alright.
For me, currently, probably this.
Right now it's anything by Dream Theatre, however my favourite is Wither (Although The Count of Tuscany comes a close second (20 minute song FTW :D))
I also rally like Trivium, especially Shogun.
Yes, I love all metal songs :P
Well, not generally a fan of classical music and such, but this is just awesome =D
Other favorite songs:
I dunno if I have one favourite but this one ranks quite high up there: http://www.8bitpeoples.com/mp3/get/684/8bp117-04-rainbowdragoneyes-the_replicator.mp3
That album in general is great, love the namesake track
Pretty creative take on chiptunes

:O Thats nice. Sounds a bit like a techno song crossed with a metal song
german music! lol^^
@b0ne123: Go
But... But... The start was in english!
Also, hate Rap stuff ><. Way too repetitive and boring for me :(.
Someone's actually listening to other folks' songs? Nice! You should like Pendulum then.

I love so many types of music, I couldn't nail it down to one.
I listen to music for different things, some I like the beat, others I listen to for the lyrics, some I listen to for the voice. It all depends
This one for the beat
These guys voices just awe me
And then lyrics like this give me shivers and hit home
