in the sens that SC2 will probably loses ALLOT of players.
and the fact that its already hard to get people to your maps and what not.
i hope its not gona stop good maps from being made in the future. i for one am a little worried, working on a big (long ) map .. id hate to see it go to waist.
sc2 wont be killed. dont forget there are tons of people out there playing melee. Custom games shouldnt be killed... unless D3 has an editor :(
From the looks of it, i dont think it will tho. D3 is somewhat like WoW in a sense that u look for equipment and use that to battle with/against other players. They even have a real money auction house planned.
Idk if there will be a strong mod community for diablo 3.
Honestly, I think diablo 3 might help SC2 in the long run.
Once it is finally released, blizzard will focus their aim back over here.
Most Diablo 3 players will swap over from Diablo 2 (still has more players than sc2, non ladder) and WoW.
Diablo 3, the way it is currently designed, would fail on the popularity list in SC2. It has limited replayability. Fast character progression, little difference between your character and your neighbors. It is one of those games that will boom, and then die down quickly to a core group of players.
About the time it is dying down, HOTS should be out. Blizzard claims that HOTS should answer the problem every mapper has ever had. Despite my personal belief that that is completely untrue, because blizzard knows nothing of the custom mapping community... I think they will offer some help in some areas, that will allow a larger variety of maps to be playable, in terms of quality, and ability to get a game full of players.
When big games like D3 die down, the players start looking for something with a lot of replayability. If SC2 hasn't completely flopped, it will be a good place for many of them to start.
Speculation of course. Based on.. well.. reality... A lot of players moved to WC3 when TFT came out; a lot of people from Diablo 2. Maybe some short term pain, but a better pay out in the end. (hah, punny sentence)
Well I could expect it to shrink custom map scene even more if there aint some major changes. Atleast I will be getting d3 and it will probly consume massive amount of time...maybe even a good break from mapping.
At this point anyone not seriously loving SC2 probably already has, so D3 won't change that. I know, of my twenty or so real life friends who bought SC2, none played Starcraft longer than 4 months before moving on.
do you guys think that D3 will kill sc2??

well i for one wills switch to d3 for 3-4month and probably not even look at my SC2 game...
cause its a BLIZZ GAME . and BLIZZ fans tend to jump from game to game.
HOTS will kill SC2, if it doesnt fixes bnet.
LOL, D3 wont even kill D2 clones. I'm probably going to play it for 2-3 weeks and go back to Path of Excile.
