So, I'm making a Starcraft themed chessboard for my boyfriend, and I could use some advice. One side of the pieces will be Zerg (what my boyfriend plays), the other will probably be Protoss. I don't know too much about Protoss though, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on which characters would make a good king and queen. Any ideas?
If you're not including heroic units, then rutegar has good ones. If you are including heroic, then Artanis would make a nice king. Then Selendis or Vorazun could be queen. It would be even super cool to have like a dark protoss and light protoss version haha. With Zeratul and Vorazun as king/queen for dark and Artanis/selecndis for light.
i played maybe chess for 6-10 years now and while im not an expert it annoys me to see a chess board in a movie that is inaccurate portrait. So a big mistake is showing the bottom-right corner as black. The bottom-right corner (playing as white)must be a white square. Also the position of the queen and king get switched easily. Easy to remember is: White queen belongs on a white square black queen on a black square.
I find probes and drones would make good units for pawns since they are expandable.
And zerg queen could be a queen. A colossus could be a rook since its tall. And a mothership could be a queen and a mothership core a king?
A hydralisk could be a knight. And every time he jumps you could make him burrow underground and reaper on the other square. A high templar could be king and a mothership core could be the queen maybe.

What a fun idea! Here are my suggestions and their reasonings:
King - Archon (Has a regal vibe I'd say)
Queen - Colossus (Tall, menacing, long-range, valuable)
Rook - Immortal (Short stout and strong, reliable, etc)
Bishop - High Templar (Tricky, intricate and "religious")
Knight - Stalker (Can teleport in-game so jumping makes sense)
Peon - Zealot (Standard grunt unit)
That's probably how I'd do it. Good luck, that's an awesome gift idea!
Thanks! Those are some good ideas!

yes! :)
"Unfortunately" I know much more about chess than SC ( it only says that I know very little of SC :) ) but I like projects such as this one.
