Hey Krazy, thanks for testing it out! Sorry it looked like you had a tough time getting used to the controls, that's definitely an area that needs to be improved upon. I saw some definite bugs to fix, which is mostly what I was looking for.
The game's been in development for a while and gone through a number of facelifts, each creating their own set of bugs, so I've been reluctant to publish it under its real name. Hopefully soon though. Thanks!
I can't help you in any direct way with making a loading screen, but I've found you can take incredible screenshots of your game using camera tools and lighting tools that can be made into a loading screen really easily.
I'd suggest making a copy of your game and then removing the UI entirely, setting up a camera somewhere nice and scenic, and staging a battle or scene of some sort. You can set the lighting of the game via Triggers (and you can test different lightings out and modify them in the lighting module).
I like using nighttime lighting so that text stands out. But you can do some really cool stuff just with the editor and the game without needing any artistic ability whatsoever!
Myself, Wargirl, and Moustro (same team who made Death By Fantasy) have been working on a stealth/combat game that is now ready for testing. I just made King Of The Hill and Capture The Flag gamemodes and would really like to see how they play with a larger party!
The game is published as "StarWorkInProgress" since it's not completely done yet, and it supports up to 12 people. I'd really like to see how it plays with at least 6 or so people, although if you have 4 that's probably enough. And I'd really like it if you could test the KOTH and CTF game modes.
I won't say anything more about the game so as to not bias you, but if you could give it a shot I would greatly appreciate it!
I didn't see a thread about this anywhere here, but they pushed the RTC deadline back to 10:00 AM PST on 12/09/2015 in order to allow for people who ran into issues filling out the form the other night to get their stuff in.
Traysent has confirmed that we are allowed to make modifications to our maps until the new deadline!
Please check out that link and decide for yourselves if I'm correct in interpreting that we may make modifications, I don't want to be held responsible if I accidentally mislead someone into disqualifying themselves!
Hey thanks for the replay and the bug report, Ducky! That was very helpful.
Also, Death By Fantasy is officially finished until the contest is over! The last thing I added was "Hardcore" mode, which ramps up the difficulty tremendously. Enemies deal more damage, can withstand more damage, more of them spawn throughout the game, and of course the biggest challenge: death is permanent!
Also, you can now pick your hero in the lobby so more than one person can be the same character. Not much for logic and continuity, but people kept wanting to pick nova!
Anyway, this is how I'd do it. Just randomizes until all 5 people have a different integer index number, and then assigns each person their spawn depending on which integer they ended up with.
Please keep in mind I'm not a programmer, so I'm sure there are plenty of better ways to do this. But this worked for me so hopefully it will work for you!
You had me worried when you wrote "most critical review yet!"
Thanks so much for giving Death By Fantasy a playthrough! I'm actually quite impressed by how you guys did, you're practically pros. And I'm glad you guys liked the exposition attack - I was worried that might be a little too abstract, but it looks like it hits its mark.
I agree that replay value is where the game has troubles, but luckily for the sake of the competition all that matters is the Blizz guys have a good time on their first playthrough...
Alright, the game is finished! There are 8 levels, culminating in the best and most hilarious final boss battle you'll ever see! Think I'm joking, try it out - I dare ya!
We're pretty much in bug-fixing and general refinement mode now. Any nitpicky criticism or errors, typos or game-breaking bugs would be great to hear about. And I think you'll have fun playing the game too.
Now if you're horribly lazy and don't want to play through the first half of the game, choose the game variant titled "Testing" to start half-way through. Be warned though, level 5 is one of the tougher parts of the game. This obviously won't be a feature with the final release.

What a fun idea! Here are my suggestions and their reasonings:
King - Archon (Has a regal vibe I'd say)
Queen - Colossus (Tall, menacing, long-range, valuable)
Rook - Immortal (Short stout and strong, reliable, etc)
Bishop - High Templar (Tricky, intricate and "religious")
Knight - Stalker (Can teleport in-game so jumping makes sense)
Peon - Zealot (Standard grunt unit)
That's probably how I'd do it. Good luck, that's an awesome gift idea!

Wow, these are absolutely incredible! Are they for a particular game you're working on or just for fun?

Hey thanks for that, ducky. May I ask what player you were in this game? And if you could send me the replay that would be fantastic!

Gotta catch all those bugs!

What Tya said is correct, I sent an email to Traysent for clarification and he said the same thing.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all have a day full of turkey and other foodstuffs.
