Hello, i didnt know where i should post this because i just joined the forum for this.
I need help with creating a mission like described above. I know the very basics about the Map Editor but thats about it.
My question is now how would i make a space map? I think i can figure out how to create new units myself but i also want to make coop versions and maybe a survival version later on. Ild also like to replace the Hyperion with other ships that may be cool and they should be able to lvl up to heroic. Any links to threads that explain how to create missions are appreciated too because i need to set the triggers and thats one thing i havent been able to figure out yet. On youtube i hardly found anything that explains how to create an entire mission, only basic editor stuff. How do the skins work in custom missions, for example: Can i give the enemy AI a classic BC? Or will it be a normal BC ingame? What happens if i give myself a classic BC and dont actually own the skin? Is it even possible in the first place to use skins in the editor?
Do you intend for there to be spaces that ships cannot pass through? If yes, then the units would actually use ground pathing instead of air pathing. Otherwise, you can use air pathing.
Leveling can be done via triggers or veterancy behaviors, since I am more experienced with veterancy behaviors; You can use state flags to have the attribute heroic be added to the unit at a certain level. Statistical increases like Damage and Health can also be done via veterancy behaviors, whether by the behavior itself or attributes.
Skins do not affect AI behavior, nor unit behavior.
You can use skins in the editor, via the Apply Player Skin action. Unowned skins work if they are called via the Apply Player Skin action.
thank you very much, well my plan is to make it like the most missions in HotS where you have levels with small maps and after an objective has been achieved a new part of the map is discovered or a new map is getting launched. In the Hyperion mission you have to clear your way through battle stations and they also act as triggers and after youre done a new map comes up with another objective. I want to do the paths like in the Hyperion mission but it sounds like i can not use space platforms as terrain with enemy AI bases to clear and at the same time have the asteroid pathways with battlestations? I planned to combine those and that you have starfighters like in the mission spawning and fighting for you aswell as for the AI. Its clear to me that skins wont change anything but their look, i will edit those stronger than the normal units. Will the AI use them like their normal counterparts atleast?
They might use abilities, but I'm not sure on that. New regions can be done via regions and the Set Playable Area trigger I believe. You can have star-bases with units on it now however with the water pathing, but for now just focus on the attack lanes.
Use Open Maps then go to Campaigns. If you own HotS then you should have it. Might need to go down the maps, but HotS and LotV are in their own folders.
I got it but im very unshure as to what anything actually is. I was thinking i could just right click on triggers, objects, units and the cameras and the settings of that particular object would come up, im very confused now. Do you know any good tutorials?
You'll need to read the triggers and such in-depth. Units should be available if you use HotS Dependency with Campaign content on. As for tutorials, there is a Sc2Mapster wiki, https://sc2mapster.gamepedia.com/SC2Mapster_Wiki, and it has some tutorials. Most of them should still work, but they may not be what you want. The SC2Mapster discord can also help, as it's quite active.

To answer the questions I can:

okay i will, do you know where the mapfile of the Hyperion mission is ,so i can open it in the editor? I need to look at it to see how it works
